Sony PlayStation 5 : Play Has No Limits

PS5 Release Date, PS5 Games, PS5 Power vs Xbox One X, PS5 Price Speculation - All the PS5 Info lets discuss

Here are all the rumors and speculation surrounding the PS5, including a potential PS5 release date, power, and launch games of Sony's inevitable PS5. Is the PS5 releasing in 2019?

What we Want From the PS5 Speculation aside, what would we ideally want from the PS5? Backwards compatibility for PS4 games would be brilliant, simply because you'd be able to carry over classics like the Shadow of the Colossus remake to the next console generation. We've seen how well Microsoft is handling backwards compatibility with its Xbox One consoles (including getting amazing results updating Xbox 360 games to run in 4K on Xbox One X), and something similar on PS5 would be great.

In terms of pure power, the PlayStation 5 has to significantly exceed the power of the Xbox One X. This means featuring more games running in 4K at 60FPS. If the PS5 can deliver about 10 TF of power we'd be happy, as this would allow devs to create games that look a generation ahead of what we've got now.

But what would the dream launch lineup be for the PS5? Death Stranding and The Last of Us: Part 2 are hugely anticipated blockbuster games, with the former especially looking to push the performance of whatever system it's on to the very limit. We've also mentioned Ghost of Tsushima and a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, and the latter would be the perfect way to kick off a new console cycle from Sony.

XSX 1TB = 930GiB (final storage is 802 meaning OS is 128)
PS5 825GB = 768 GiB (final storage 664 meaning OS is 104)
Will the XBSS OS also take the same amount of space ? If thats so, that would mean the total storage availble would be what, 350 Gbish. Man, this just kills the deal at least for me. If i have to dish out 200 bucks for additional storage then i might as well get the Series X with alot more power and more than double the base storage.

At the very least they said games for the S might be 30% smaller or something I guess....

anyway

Eurogamer has an article which sums up the recent hands ons and has some new tidbits:

being able to directly boot into specific parts of the game or levels (I guess this means launching directly into MP for a CoD style game)

Speaking of things still to be shown, this round of previews did not reveal the PlayStation 5 desktop and user interface, which will reportedly include a way to boot directly into specific modes or levels of a game
.

a mysterious nut was spotted (wtf):

As spotted by 4Gamer, and picked up on by The Verge, a curious metal nut or bolt can be seen when peering into the PS5's casing on the upper right. That report suggested the nut allows you to remove the PS5's contoured shell and access its innards - which may be where its expandable SSD slot is hiding. As of yet, Sony is still to show how and where this can be accessed.

Man, that thing is huge. The guy's small stature doesn't help either. It looks like the heat sink and the fan are culprits. Well, as long as all that helps the system function well. 🤷‍♂️

The use of liquid metal is indeed pretty crazy. And it has dust catchers too! This is a well-engineered piece of hardware.

Only thing I don't like is the screw needed to hold the base stand in place. Would've preferred a tool-free stand.

Yeah, the extravagant heat sink and liquid metal, no wonder there were so many reports about how PS5's were expensive to produce.

It's a bit weird that Sony have went back to the PS3 kind of mentality with the over-engineering of the hardware. The PS4 was a remarkably designed device with a loud fan being the only real complaint about the hardware.

I think it just comes down to Sony saving money on the SoC die space by bumping gpu clocks to a really high frequency in order to hit that 10TF target. As costly as the cooling system looks, it's likely quite a bit cheaper than opting for more gpu cores running at a lower clock speed.

It's a generic heat sink in principle just huge in size. And liquid metal is an old form of thermal paste that is like $5 for a single application if you buy off the shelf. In mass production, this isn't an expensive solution.

Dave Lee seems to be impressed with the Liquid Metal.

Yes, Dave's video lays it down in very simple terms why the sheer engineering of the console is superb.

But that's only the engineering of the hardware, the software etc will be a whole different subject.

Over two years spent on R&D'ing this old form $5 solution lol.

One renowned YT techie with 3 million subscribers versus one loud forum boi with a hidden PSN profile.

Whose word to take :p

Among them, 15% said they managed to successfully pre-order a next generation console. Within this group, 72% went for the disc edition of the PS5, 30% went for the Xbox Series X, 10% for the PS5 digital edition and 8% for the Xbox Series S.
The thirst is real.

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
