Thanks for the detailed reply. yr problem is that nowadays ptcl guys are hell bent on telling their customers to reduce their packages. koi bhi fault ho, even if from their end they tell everyone to downgrade to 1mb or 2mb packages... anyways i wanted to ask u that should i change my ptcl modem? i got one in 2007..its that blue color zte modem.. i am thinking of getting the latest ones ptcl have...also thinking of importing a splitter capable of handling adsl2+..their splitters are only adsl compliant.. i dont have any joints in my line or anything..changed all the wires 2 months back.. do u think changing the modem or splitter might help my case a little bit?

Honestly only a little it varies not much but it's worth a try, rather than buying a new ADSL modem if you have an older modem try using that and if there is a huge change then keep that else it's PTCL's job to resolve your issue, since this problem is mainly concerned with Line Parameters.

thank you...one last thing i wanna know..today i connected my modem directly without any splitter and the noise margin went from 6.7 to 9.8db.. do u think i should get a new splitter or there is a reduction in snr whenever we have a splitter inbetween...

Well bro a Splitter is a must requirement since it controls your line noise which is SNR and Attenuation so never ever you use your broadband without a splitter and get a new splitter from PTCL if you think you old one is causing problems. If the problem still persists get your Exchange and Linemen informed.

These are the crappy stats I've been getting for the past few days.
I'm on ADSL2+ 12 Mbps with the D-Link 2750U modem. I used to get an SNR of around 17 dB before, but now it fluctuates between 9.5 and 11.0 dB (downstream). Upstream has always been the same I guess. Another weird thing is, my Output Power (downstream) is always 0 dBm. I googled this, most people said it's a modem glitch, I tried 3 different modems, it always shows 0 dBm output power.

Lastly, with such a low SNR, how has my attainable rate not decreased? It has always shown around 23000 Kbps even when I was on a 4Mbps profile and when I upgraded to 8Mbps.

I already filed a complaint for bad line parameters, but why did it suddenly go so low?

What were the line parameters when the line profile was set to 8mbps? When changing to 12mbps+ there will be a significant drop (could be between 5-10dB) in line parameters on PTCL ADSL connections. Or were you getting higher SNR on 12mbps sync rate few days ago and SNR drop happened recently.

On 8Mbps my downstream SNR was 24-25 dB.
On 12 Mbps since I upgraded, I was getting 16-17 dB SNR.
However, about 3 days ago, it dropped and now hovers around 10 dB, which sucks.

As far as I know, it's Fiber till ONU. My VPI/VCI are 8/81 as well.

And the exchange in my area had no objection to me upgrading to 12 Mbps.

No way!

Your line stats are worse than mine.
If your line syncs at 9215 kbps, your SNR will take a nosedive and you will disconnect very frequently.

Well in my case there was an underground cable damage which would have taken a lot of days or weeks to get it resolved since when ever I picked up my receiver there was no tone but other loud noises which caused my SNR Margin to behave abnormal just like yours is doing right now. First of all check your line through the phone receiver in order to check whether there is a dial tone with no distortion or abnormal loud noises. If there is then your whole DP pole along with it's pair is effected, so you need to change your DP pole to another near by pole, since my case was this and I got my DP pole changed. As for your attainable rate that's quite odd that due to such poor SNR Margin it's still resident at 23000Kbps, since in my case it varied when ever my SNR changed.

I've been meaning to share this, but I had forgotten.
My friends dad works at a bank and he asked someone to request a quote from PTCL for the installation charges of Fiber in Phase 3 BT.
Phase 3 is even closer to the exchange than my house, and his street is almost 1km from it.

Anyway, here's a screenshot of the quote.
First off, it's almost 400k WTF.

Second, I noticed it says FDH Cabinet is 150k.
Does PTCLs GPON require cabinets to be installed to distribute Fiber?
Nayatel is in safari villas and from what I know, they weren't installing any cabinets. Just digging underground for cables.

So how come PTCL is using cabinets and not like Nayatel?

I'm very confused here.
Also, do you think this quote is accurate?

It would cost PTCL approx 400k per phase to provide GPON coverage?

Phone is fine, I can hear the dial tone too.

What you said about the pole, I can only see one near my house and not any others, so changing pole might not be possible.
I've heard the term changing pairs before, but what does that mean?
Would a lineman understand if I tell him to change the pairs?

And yes, my attainable rate used to fluctuate with the SNR, but now it doesn't.

Can't really say anything about the cost TBH though I think it makes sense for FDH since PTCL don't have any GPON infrastructure in place in Bahria. Anyways, sorry no idea on this.

SNR drop from 24-25dB to 16-17dB when sync rate increases from 8 to 12mbps is pretty usual considering it's PTCL infrastructure but if it dropped again by 6-7dB then that isn't normal. Have you by any chance changed the ADSL modulation from ADSL2+ to G.DMT coz that will reduce the SNR by that amount if not then there could be some fault somewhere ranging from splitter problem to rust/moisture damage on dp or some fuse etc problem in ONU. You could try changing the telephone line from that connects modem to splitter and also changing the "dabbi" that connects with main telephone line. Sometimes corrosion/oxidization/moisture/rust etc will also drop SNR by a lot and even cause desyncs. You can tell if you need to reconnect the dabbi and the main telephone line with it if colour of the copper wires has black/grey hue in it. Also it's a good idea if you haven't done that in a few years. You need to cut the wire near the end and strip it and connect it to dabbi again. Then connect splitter and modem with it. If there isn't anything wrong with cabinet or dp then that should solve the low SNR problem.

I was thinking the same.
I'll call my lineman on Monday because the dabbi is broken and the line is really old (early 2012).
I've bought a brand new telephone wire and once he brings the new dabbi, I'll report back and see if SNR changes.

EDIT: Also, no I didn't change the modulation. It's on ADSL2+, however a few days ago when it DC'd, it re-synced at G.DMT, so I rebooted the modem and it went back to ADSL2+.

Attainable Rate PTCL 4 Mb connection

Hi everyone, I have a 4 Mb connection and it works fine most of the time. However, the attainable rate (as you can see from the screenshot) is very low as compared to others that I have seen.
What is the reason for that? And is this going to be a problem?

Your pairs will be changed from the Exchange first and then it will be changed on your pole DP. Tell your Lineman to change your pairs. He'll first tell the Exchange to change them and then once they are changed he'll it from your DP as well.

I've got my PTCL DSL Latency type changed from interleaved to FAST path, but it decreased my downstream rate from 9215 to 8191 Kbps.
Now my downloads are considerably slower, as I used to get 1 MBps before on downloads and torrents, but now its between 800-850 KBps at best.
The speedtest also confirms that, as it used to be >8 Mbps, but now it is barely 7 Mbps, a full 1 Mbps slower.

My fibre line is actually really good with 25+ SNR margin on FAST path with excellent pings, and not a single desync or any browsing issues; youtube videos play perfectly without buffering at 1080p 60fps; and I am not getting any Super Frame Errors and HEC Errors either with FAST path; the connection is perfectly fine; the only issue is that download speeds are atleast 150-200 KBps slower than before, which is really bugging me.

I don't understand that even with error correction disabled, the overhead is still huge (over 1 Mb of bandwidth), which is similar to interleaved path; even though my downstream SNR margin is 25+ dB and attenuation is only 3 dB.

It took me like 2 weeks of continuous tweets and DMs to @PTCLCares guy every single day, to get my latency path changed.
Now I've been asking him to bump me up to a 9215 with FAST path; but he doesn't understand my query, he just replies with "Enjoy the services, your latency type is already changed to FAST path".

Is it even possible to get a 9215 line profile with FAST path; or is that only available with interleaved latency?
Can I go back to 9215 with interleaved? or am I stuck with the slower 8191, even if I do get reverted to interleaved;:( as I have seen that many people are also getting the slower 8096 or 8191 as their default interleaved profile.

What exactly should I ask @PTCLCares without nagging him any more, so that he understands this issue, and not screw up my connection!
I will be very grateful for any feedback and/or suggestions from you guys.

Everything is fine with your connection; the attainable rate is low because your DSL modulation is set at G.dmt.
Just change your modulation to ADSL2+ and you will get a higher attainable rate.
