Hey guys. I'll start my A2 next year and was thinking of giving SATs. I know everyone recommends giving them in AS, but I had valid reasons for not giving them then. I know very little about SATs, including that all questions are multiple choice, and the difference between SAT I and SAT II. I've done a few practice questions on the collegeboard website and I think I can handle them (will buy practice books later to better judge my position).

I wanted to ask the following:

1. Is it possible to get a good score (2100+) in SAT I and SAT II on your first attempt (without tuition)? I've heard of people giving three attempts or more to get a good, competitive score. Thoughts?
2. Do ALL universities require SAT II (The subject test), and if so, how many subjects exactly? Will 2 be sufficient?

Tips regarding the tests will be appreciated.

I'm with you on this one . ASFAIK ,it's compulsory for Unis in USA I believe, and in Japan as well .I don't know about other countries . I don't think it's that useful in Europe if you see that we are already paying British Council :tv: and CIE is recognised pretty much everywhere .

BTW If you do get any information, please do post it here :) I also want to take SATs this year .

Same. I'm planning to give them this fall. I'm pretty sure I won't have much time to take 2-3 attempts. I need to know if its possible to get a score on the first try. Also tips on how to prepare as well. Without tuition preferably. Really no time for that stuff due to various reasons.

Buy SAT 1 book(s) like Princeton/Barron's/college board's official SAT...the usual highest rated books (courtesy amazon,i am not saying that it is credible but it does provide a good measure) are college board's Sat reasoning,Princeton's,Barron's respectively...Barron's sat reasoning has two version, one is simple and other is Barron'sq sat 2400,a harder version aiming for those who have already given sat or those who are seriously aiming for top scores, personally i would say to begin with Princeton's sat, master it and then move on to Barron's...

And well getting a good score depends on many factors, personally i feel it depends upon how much you practice, apply tricks and techniques, control your nerves while taking test and your mind's logical development....but the most important thing to realise is Sat Is only a block of the puzzle in holistic admission system of america ,a friend of mine got 1750,still got in 8 outta 9 colleges, most of them are top tier public colleges (uw,purdue etc)...but this case holds good only for public colleges that we can define as "very good",the level gets definitely up with the likes of UC berkley,GATECH etc...ivy leagues to khair pta hee hai sbko...

And no,only few really good/great colleges and all ivies require SAT 2 scores...it ain't necessary...

Continuing from above, trying to answer another part of question,is it easy to score in Sat 2 sub tests? Well, maine kbi koi sat ni dia but i have each and every book related to it and i have studied most of them...All i can say is Nust mein SAT seats pe log jaty haina,sb sat 2 sub tests dety hain, and u know lowest score kia hota hai jiska adm. Hota hai? 2200 etc...so that means it is after all not difficult to score in SAT2,kuch bhi bahr se ni hota sb fsc/a levels waly topics hoty 95% curricula mein,if u don't believe me u can check spark notes for sat 2...

For vocabulary that comes in sat,all I can say is do thoroughly go through 50words per day,go through same no. Of words for 3 5 days until they sort of get synchronised with your mind...prepare vocab from DIRECT Hits (A MUST) + college/barrons/princeton (anyone of them + direct hits)...well that was my strategy when i prepared vocabulary for other tests, going through the words with complete concentration then taking my. Own test,do read The Times, but i feel there is not much time for that stuff like preparing proper vocabulary by reading etc...and also there is no way the vocab can be memorised clearly (atleast i find it almost impossible) so for me that was the only resort

For maths: it depends on just two things, 1. Your own logical thinking + maths skills 2. Practicing the questions and applying techniques

Writing:

Essay: refer to any sat guide, you must know what an essay consists of,you must be able to construct arguments and not just rhetorics out of nothing...

Sentence correction: I honestly did this section with my English instincts and have succeeded Alhamdolillah ;DD

Thanks for the tips, Kashan123999 !

I'll keep all that in mind.

I found a document on xtremepapers that says "1000 common SAT words", so for now I'm trying to memorize words that I haven't heard of. My real prep will begin in July.

Although I'd have preferred you'd have given in this January, it's not too late. October of A2 is a very popular choice. I myself gave it then. Although, I'll suggest giving ACT instead.

Though, if you don't mind me asking, 1- Where do you plan on applying. Not just the area, specific unis, 2- what course.

Secondly, don't do those 1000 word outdated lists. Outdated. Even the two wordsmarts are now outdated. Try finding the latest version of Direct Hits Vocab. (or sth like that. Don't remember, been a while).

If you end up giving the SAT, use the CollegeBoard books. I've used CB, PR and Barrons, and the latter two are slightly different from the actual test. the CB book has actual exam papers. I did those, and a few past SAT papers. (torrents).

So, I have a diagnostic test for SAT I on 9th August. I got the Barron's book and I'll start studying from 1st July InshaAllah. Can anyone suggest what would be the main requirements to pass the test? Thanks.

I got 2140 on my first attempt in SAT I and 2380 on my first attempt in SAT II (math level 2, physics, chem), both without tuition, so yes it is very much possible. Preparation academies are a waste of time and money. On your own you can prepare better if you recognize your weak points and focus on them more. Barron's is actually quite misleading for SAT I as far as I experienced. Instead I'd recommend the official SAT study guide (a book published by ETS itself), and Princeton Review's SAT prep book. Also there was a concise word list (forgot it's name) which was very handy and quite relevant (maybe a Google search will be helpful). Last but not least, do as many mock tests as you can (there are 10 practice tests in the ETS book, a few in Princeton Review, and you can find actual leaked past papers on the internet too). With enough practice, you'll be able to tackle the actual test with relative confidence.

SAT II is quite straightforward. You can't go wrong if you've studied thoroughly from Barron's books.

Did y'all see the new Assassin's Creed trailer? They finally made a AC set in Japan & then they put a negro as the male protagonist. Ubisoft is taking cues from Disney, and it isn't gonna end well for them, just like Disney. Go woke, go broke!
