Will the plaudits ever cease for Gears of War? (Halo 3 perhaps)
The Gears of War roller coaster shows no signs of derailing from its critically and consumer-powered thrill ride, and as the Epic Games sci-fi epic hurtles past 3 million unit sales, the award nominations also continue to stack up.
More specifically, Gears finds itself the proud recipient of no less than 10 nominations for the 10th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards ceremony, which will be held on 08 February at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Unsurprisingly, Gears of War is short-listed for Game of the Year, and also finds itself in line to scoop other notable honours including Console Game of the Year, and best Action-Adventure Game.
Other games in the running for awards include Bethesda Softworks' The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (both of which have received six nominations each) along with the likes of Wii Sports and Guitar Hero II—all of the above are nominated for the coveted Game of the Year award.
Relic Entertainment’s PC-based WWII battler Company of Heroes is nominated for five awards, including Computer Game of the Year, Game Design, and Game Play Engineering, while Ubisoft has been short-listed for First-Person Action Game of the Year, and also Outstanding Art Direction, for its latest tactical shooter Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas
