Well you'll need an original Cd key in order to play on WOW servers. However, there are private servers created by people which can be joined without needing a unique cd key.
there is no free account you need to buy the $20 game and pay $15 per month. Otherwise there is also a 10 day free trial check www.worldofwarcraft.com

@Farazi: there is no way to play it free, there are some private pirate servers exists on the web (use google.com) but there quality is worst..and there is no fun in playing!
So buy the original game and pay the subscription fee to enjoy this awesome game!
