    I'd say the best model to get is still the 60 GB (CECHAxx NTSC), which has hardware-based PS2 backward compatibility and a lot of other features that the later models don't. The 60 GB (CECHCxx PAL) would be my second choice, and the one I own. It has partially software-based PS2 backward...

    The firmware update hardly takes a few minutes, so it's unlikely that you'll get a power failure just when your PS3 is in the middle of the process. I'd say the best time for you to update would be fifteen or so minutes after the power comes back on. The new firmware hasn't been jailbroken yet...

    This is what I've heard so far: Industry analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities is convinced that a new GTA will hit stores before the end of fiscal year 2011. The game could be set in Los Angeles, or Los Santos as it's known in Rockstar's fictional universe.

    The PS3 is built to endure small voltage fluctuations, but it won't survive a very large surge or overload. Although I doubt the voltages you've listed would harm a PS3, I think you should look into buying a surge protector or something nevertheless.

    Assassin's Creed is awesome, though it doesn't fit into the typical stealth genre mold. The Thief trilogy is one of the best, imo. But nothing beats Metal Gear Solid.

    The only reason you'd want to go for Xbox 360 over PS3 is because of Xbox Live. And because you don't intend to go online, you can jailbreak your PS3 and play all the games you want free of charge (or at nominal prices if you can't download the games yourself).

    You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
