Elden Ring [OT] Shadow of the Erdtree expansion announced











"As somebody who's played all of Miyazaki's games over at least the last decade, this is clearly the most ambitious game that he's done," he says. "I mean, I love his games, but seeing some of the gameplay mechanics stuff that he's tackling, he and the team are tackling this time, of the setting, working with another creator in terms of story. I love it."

The other creator Spencer mentions is, of course, Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin, who has worked on the story for the upcoming open world game.

According to Spencer, Elden Ring is Miyazaki "expanding his horizons." He also says that leaves the room while Spencer plays. "I think that's because I'm a bad player, and then when he comes back we'll have a conversation about things that I think," he says. "He's so passionate about what he does. It's one of the things I just love about getting to work with him on some of these games and seeing them come to our platform."

This is exactly what I want from From Software. Breaking away from the tired Souls formula got us Sekiro so this sounds great. Really hope we get to see gameplay soon.

Steam Deck compares favourably to PS4 - resolution apart - and Valve's 30fps cap gets frame-pacing right, unlike From Software's solution.
Ultimately, it's fascinating to see just how closely Steam Deck mirrors PS4 in these stress points. The Steam machine handily outperforms Xbox One S in terms of both sustained performance and visual features, which is quite an achievement for an AMD APU with a 15W power limit.

Good change. I'm glad From Software has some sense to include these quality of life features back that were initially in the demo. 👍

I mean, the PS4 version does have frame pacing issues in general. Frame times hover between 33.33ms - 50ms, which is categorized as judder in a 30fps game (not different from Bloodborne running on PS4). Running on the Steam Deck at equivalent settings, you don't see that judder outside of taxing situations. However, you also get stutter on the Deck, with frame time dips to 66.66ms (possibly lower), which does not happen on PS4 (as seen in the comparisooon).



These micro-pauses are far worse than judder, and, therefore, I'd go with the PS4 version unless you simply had to go play the game at the nearby park 🤣

what we have is effectively a 720p rendition of the PlayStation 4 version of Elden Ring. Not only that, because Valve's 30fps cap delivers even 33.3ms frame-times - unlike From Software's internal clock-based solution - you get much smoother experience.
Steam Deck version has Guru Ledbetter's seal of approval. Woooooorks for me 🤷‍♂️🤣
