Salam to all PG members today I bring you the Xbox series X it’s been a year since I posted anything COVID-19 has been the reason all along I had the whole year to spend with my family which is a plus also I had the opportunity to stay home not for days or weeks but for months first the only thing I had with me was a Nintendo switch (was easy to carry during flight as I was on a 20 days holiday) then Last of us 2 happened and I couldn’t wait and bought a second PS4 Pro everything was nice and well but apart from first party polished 4K 30 fps games(Ghost of Tsushima, Last of us 2) games like RDR2 would stutter, if the games were 60 fps like MK 11 Ultimate or Crash 4 then they would play in 1080p I just couldn’t take it any longer and was itching for an upgrade one of the reasons is that my gaming PC is in Beijing and sitting idle for a year now……I am getting a RTX30 series laptop next I am done with desktops.
XBOX:
I was an avid XBOX 360 user back in the day I even bought three of those over the generation it was splendid then the previous gen Microsoft started focusing on PC alongside the XBOX so I played all the exclusives like forza 3,4 horizon and gears of war 5 on my gaming PC there was little to no reason to pick up xbox one or x fast forward to 2020 there are plenty of reasons to get one as I am without a PC it’s a water cooled rig sitting idle I don’t know what kind of working condition it would be in when I get back don’t know exactly when I am going back there’s at least a month left if everything goes smooth plus the game pass which gives you around 200 games to choose from most of them are only available on a console so there is that.
Game Pass:
This is where Sony is facing tough competition the Game pass library is huge with hard hitting AAA titles and plenty of them to choose from its 15$ a month but considering the features it offers I think it’s a steal. As part of a promotion I got 3 months of Game Pass Ultimate for a single $ my next deduction is in April now I couldn’t be happier to be honest. This is the reason I picked up an XBOX because if it wasn’t for game pass I would only have 5 games to play from my library of owned games.
Design:
Series X looks great in person its minimalistic compact and dense. I get a feeling of having a very well-engineered mini itx PC it easy to blend in your entertainment center it’s not a conversation starter like a PS5 but I think it looks quite alright just focuses on what it’s supposed to do.
Controller:
Do you remember the time when Microsoft burned 100$ million to try and improve the 360 controller yet ended up having slight improvements and made the Xbox one controller? They learned a lesson and told themselves to not fix what's not broken its nothing extraordinary its the same thing as before with slight design tweaks here and there I love the gripping texture around the back plus the triggers it feels light and clicky but I would say my elite controller still feels better.
Sony went all out with dual sense and that's the way it should've been all across the board next gen haptics and what not it even had Microsoft conducting a survey whether we would like to see such features on the Xbox (yes its copying but gamers win if it happens so it’s alright) so maybe there's an elite controller plus coming in the future?
4K 120fps:
Now this is a dream territory they are printing 8K and 4K 120 fps on boxes I couldn't be bothered by that all I want is 4K 60fps that's it my TV doesn't support 120fps and I am not buying a new one for years to come by the time 8k becomes a norm these consoles would be considered ancient. Yes there are a couple of games that can do 4k 120fps yes going from 60hz to 100hz on my acer x34 was game changing but you need a beefier system to that not 12TFLOPS. Microsoft and Sony need to implement something like Nvidia DLSS in this generation to really pull 4K 60 fps across the board not like Ubisoft 4k30 with medium ray tracing in watchdogs.
PS5 vs Xbox:
PS5 would’ve made much more sense for me personally as my whole gaming library is on PSN and for PC its scattered across steam, origin and Uplay I only have a couple of super exclusives in my Microsoft store predominantly Gears of war and Forza titles but it’s the stupid pricing and insane non-availability that is keeping it from happening.
Sony has a true next gen controller plus good exclusives like demon souls and miles morales plus more on the way Xbox lacks this but they make up with their game pass and might counter dual sense with elite sense. Competition is always good for consumers so I want everyone to go above and beyond to deliver even Nintendo is thinking 4K at the moment but I want 4K 60 period RTX 3090 has made it possible on PC but the card alone is worth all the consoles put together (retail prices).
My games library for Xbox and PlayStation.
It just shows the numbers wish there was a way to get a list of games and a profile page like steam
My decision:
I picked up Xbox due to availability and price if PS5 was also available at Xbox price I would buy that instead as it would give a much needed boost to my PlayStation library of games I could play in 60 fps or 30 with better performance (RDR2) plus with gaming PC Xbox makes a little less sense I will definitely buy a PlayStation 5 down the road a few months later when its available and prices are close to retail the latest best price I got was 165K on January 6th and I couldn't bear to waste 65-75K thinking what the prices would be like in June plus with Xbox there is no need of buying games because of game pass so I am good.
The only physical game I have is Cyberbug 2077 which could've been a game of the decade instead its now the bug fest and disappointment of the decade good job CD project RED.
Conclusion:
I think there's no need for being a fan boy just enjoy whatever you have and if you want it all then buy all three systems like I am scratching the ps5 itch with ps4 pro which has just about all the games. If you have a good gaming PC then its okay to skip Xbox but it still might have it's perks for example more games, ease of use, portability etcetera.
If you don't want to spend big on gaming or don't want to own all the systems then buy whatever your friends have or the exclusives you like plus your previous games library matters a lot as well due to excellent backwards compatibility.
