I don't see a problem with this. Save for a couple odd games that studios are forced to make to drive new console sales, next-gen doesn't hit its stride until a couple of years later any way.
This might be a problem for early adapters and make people not want to rush out to get the next Xbox. Especially those who spent $500 for an Xbox One X less than 2~ 3 years ago.

Sony's more traditional generational-divide approach will mean more people will want PS5 for those exclusive games and the PS5 will likely have a bigger launch regardless of a higher price point.

Looks like I spoke a bit soon. MS has officially discontinued both the Xbox One X and Xbox S Digital Edition.

Microsoft is officially halting production of its Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition consoles. “As we ramp into the future with Xbox Series X, we’re taking the natural step of stopping production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition,” says a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement to The Verge. “Xbox One S will continue to be manufactured and sold globally.”

Amazing value just got even better.

Microsoft to launch xCloud streaming free with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in September

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate combines Xbox Live access, an Xbox Game Pass subscription, and, starting in September, xCloud game streaming into a single $14.99 monthly subscription.

Microsoft is promising that more than 100 Xbox Game Pass titles will be playable on a phone or tablet when the streaming service launches. Microsoft isn’t detailing which countries will be supported at launch just yet, though. The company has been building out its Azure data centers across the US and in parts of Europe with Xbox One S blades to stream Xbox games through xCloud. Microsoft will upgrade these servers to Xbox Series X hardware in 2021.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will be the only way to access xCloud streaming at launch, but it won’t always be limited to Microsoft’s top subscription tier.

New Battletoads comes to Xbox Game Pass in August

The Battletoads beat-’em-up is bound for Xbox One and PC

Rare and Dlala Studios’ reboot of Battletoads is coming to Xbox One and Windows PC — via Windows 10 and Steam — on Aug. 20, Microsoft announced Friday. The game will launch on Xbox Game Pass for console and PC.

The new Battletoads is a retro three-player beat-’em-up/platformer. And yes, the grueling bike racing segments are back, just from a different perspective, as you can see in the launch date trailer above. Battletoads supports drop-in, drop-out local co-op play, and promises “difficulty settings designed to suit everyone from Tadpole to Battletoad.”

Microsoft announced the new Battletoads at E3 2018, revealing the game’s cartoonish hand-drawn art style and developer Dlala Studios’ involvement. Original Battletoads developer Rare is involved in a collaborative capacity.

Final Fantasy 7 HD, Man of Medan coming to Xbox Game Pass in August

Devil May Cry 5 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance are leaving the program

Seven games will be added to Xbox Game Pass in August, including Final Fantasy 7 HD and Darksiders: Ge. Two of the games are for console only, while the other five will be available on Xbox Game Pass for PC and console.

Here’s the full list, and when then the games will become available:

  • Darksiders: Genesis (console) — Aug. 6
  • It Lurks Below (console & PC) — Aug. 6
  • The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan (console) — Aug. 6
  • Trailmakers (console & PC) — Aug. 6
  • UnderMine (console & PC) — Aug. 6
  • Xeno Crisis (console & PC) — Aug. 6
  • Final Fantasy 7 HD (console & PC) — Aug. 13
These games join F1 2019, which was added for console and PC programs, last week. July’s new games, which include Carrion and Yakuza Kiwami 2, are still available, too. As always, with new games joining the Xbox Game Pass, old ones must leave. On Aug. 14, these five games will leave the program:

  • Devil May Cry 5 (Console)
  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance (Console & PC)
  • Space Hulk: Tactics (PC)
  • Where the Water Tastes Like Wine (PC)
  • Yoku’s Island Express (Console & PC)
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which gives players access to both PC and console programs, is $14.99. New subscribers will get a month for $1. The Xbox-only program costs $9.99, while Xbox Game Pass for PC (which is in beta) costs $4.99 a month. In September, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will gain access to Microsoft’s streaming technology, xCloud.

Super excited to play Wasteland 3 but also sad that RDR 2 is leaving so soon, this was expected though.

Another solid addition to the Day 1 Game Pass line up.
Played this over the long weekend and this game is an absolute delight..... Super addicting. And this is coming from someone who doesnt like Turn based rpg game as such. The only complaint at the moment is that the game has some serious bugs. I am playing on the Xbox one x version and there are bugs more than usual including frame rate drops, inventory issues and sound issues.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate now includes EA Play — free

Almost 100 EA titles join Game Pass’ library, for no extra charge

EA Play’s library of games is now available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, at no additional charge.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Xbox Game Pass for PC subscribers get access to EA Play’s 89 games immediately. Access will also be good for subscribers on Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X, when those launch in November.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs $14.99 a month, and includes Xbox Live Gold (ordinarily $9.99 per month/$59.99 per year) and Xbox Game Pass for PC access. EA Play (formerly EA Access) costs $4.99 a month and $29.99 a year.

EA Play members on Xbox One get access to a library of 89 titles. They also get a 10-hour free trial for select new releases (typically EA Sports’ newest launches), plus a 10 percent discount on any digital purchase of EA’s DLC or microtransactions. Microsoft’s announcement this morning confirmed both the trial and discount perks would carry over.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate’s library currently offers 246 games to Xbox One subscribers. Titles enter and leave that library every month. When EA Access originally launched on Xbox One in 2014, EA said that any game placed into its “vault” stays there forever for its subscribers. Some titles have been pulled since then, usually sports releases and usually for licensing reasons.

Microsoft seems to be perpetually offering Xbox Game Pass Ultimate’s first month for $1 to new subscribers. After that, it’s $14.99 per month; Microsoft does not offer an annual purchase option, although some retail stores offer cards redeemable for multiple months.

Wednesday’s announcement followed Microsoft’s notice that pre-orders for the Xbox Series X and Series S will begin on Sept. 22. In addition to confirming the Series X’s cost is $499, the company announced a purchase plan, getting buyers the console and Xbox Game Pass on a monthly payment program of $24.99 per month, for 24 months.
