But while Microsoft has indeed worked with AMD to ensure there is some level of ray tracing support inside the Xbox Series X GPU, Grossman doesn't seem to be that enthused about how readily it will be utilised.

"We do support DirectX Raytracing acceleration, for the ultimate in realism™, but in this generation developers still want to use traditional rendering techniques, developed over decades, without a performance penalty," says Grossman sadly. "They can apply ray tracing selectively, where materials and environments demand, so we wanted a good balance of die resources dedicated to the two techniques."

Shocking news™ :ROFLMAO:

i mean .. yes ... games with great lighting with forward/deferred rendering have existed for a long while .. while the next-gen console support RT t on a hardware level, i do not think it will become universally adapted on either the PS5/XBSX because of the huge performance penalty it has right now.

I don't think Xbox/ps5 has that kinda horsepower to push full on Ray traced effects all together. It will be pick and choose for now I think lightning is one area where it benefits the most, but if metro Exodus is any indication, it's still very very resource intensive. If the ps5 manages Ray traced lightning with full native 4k I'll be really surprised. Ps6 is when we will see Ray tracing normalized
