Aoa all,

I was looking to purchase a gaming laptop. I will be using it for some learning pursuits such as 3D modelling, game development and video editing and of course gaming as well.

It should be able to play new games at high-ish settings and should have no heatings issues because I think that's a deal breaker in this country.

I was checking the prices myself and it seems the newer ones are quite expensive so I was wondering whether it would be ok to buy a used one. If yes, please suggest those too.

Thanks in advance.

you should be able to score a decent laptop with 1060 or 1070 in that budget depending on condition and it performance

As for heating issues, generally all gaming laptops run at higher temps but they throttle the clocks down if it exceeds certain limits varies laptop to laptop

however you can overcome such issues yourself by not letting the dust built up around vents, keeping it in a well ventilated space, use of cooling pad/feets, use of AC if summer and 40c outside, or not to utilize turbo in high temp conditions and after market thermal pastes if factory paste is not upto standards( in most cases)

Ok, so I bought the laptop.

Laptop.jpg

It's a Lenovo Legion Y520.

The following are the specs:
Core i7-7700HQ @ 2.80GHz
16 GB DDR4 2400 MHz
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Max-Q
15.6" FHD IPS Display

Price: Rs. 1,40,000

I have only tested out Apex Legends so far, seems to be running it at a constant 50-60 fps on full settings. @CyCo, I had some questions about the thermal pasting that you mentioned, how frequently should one get it repasted and can you recommend some good shops where I can get this done where the laptop is handled professionally and with care?

Thank you.

Paste should last 4 to 5 years, its a hit and miss, may require couple attempts till you get it right so better do it your self, Apply Paste, Test thermals, Repeat till it works out, its pretty easy Youtube it for your Model, just dont cheap out on Paste, i'd chose one of these, Artic Mx4, Thermal Grizly, or Noctua

however if your thermals are fine in its current state dont bother, just keep the vents clean few weeks apart, depending how dusty it gets
