Cartman: living proof that playing MMORPGs doesn't have to ruin your figure.
Comedy Central has revealed that those who purchase the tenth series of South Park on DVD will also receive a 14-day trial to the World of Warcraft.
The link between Blizzard's monster of a game and the crappily-brilliant animated show that centres on a group of troublesome pre-pubescent kids is the Emmy-nominated episode, "Make Love, Not Warcraft," which aired last October. It features Cartman and the gang ridding the MMORPG of a hugely powerful Warcraft obsessive intent on ruining the game for newcomers.
Eurogamer reports that this isn't the first time that Blizzard has joined forces with a third party to plug World of Warcraft. In March this year the British newspaper The Times gave away a free trial to the game in one of its weekend publications.
Blizzard recently announced that a new World of Warcraft expansion pack would be released sometime next year. Entitled Wrath of the Lich King, it will unlock the continent of Northrend and centre on Death Knight Arthas. New features include the level cap being raised to 80, the introduction of Hero Classes and expanded character customisation.
No doubt the South Park association will further increase the tally of global World of Warcraft subscribers, which was recently announced to have exceeded 9 million users.
