Wifi Help and guidance.

Hey Guys.

I was wondering if i could turn my DESKTOP PC into a wifi hotspot. I m using DSL LAN Cable connection.
I am having now personal 3 devices which need wifi connection to be connected to internet. So was just wondering if there is a device or something which i could hook up with my computer and could use my computer as a wifi HOTSPOT to connect my devices to internet.

Please guys If anyone thing can help me regarding this thing. Please come forward and guide me and let me know what I'm gonna have to do to get the task done.

Help will be profoundly appreciated.

Get a usb wifi adaptor (Galaxy ... Networking WiFi Adaptor) and use this (MyPublicWiFi - Virtual Access Point) software for setting up a wifi hotspot. BUT why not get a cheap wifi router? You can find one easily on PG.

So what would your honest suggestion Bro? to get the wifi usb thing or the router. I knew about the wifi router, They say all you have to do is to plug in the lan cable into the wifi router and boom there you go you got wifi connection. But I was thinking If I could just get a device which Could turn my present Pc into the wifi hotspot.
And another important Question!!! If I get the USB WIFI ADAPTOR, Will my present LAN CABLE CONNECTION work with it. I mean Its a way to turn my Cable lan connection into a wifi connection via a DESTOP PC!?!? Please clarify would you? thanks Bro.,,,,

You have 2 options,
Buy a Wifi Card for your PC & share your LAN on WiFi through this card using connectify hotspot.
Another one is to get a WiFi router & use it.
I will recommend you 2nd one as you don't have to turn on your Computer to have WiFi
I also recommend you that one : TP-Link Router TL-WR740N Wireless price in pakistan
I have its V1.8 for years & it is still working without any hassle One more + point is that, it is famous low-end router you could have a custom firmware as DD-WRT if you wish.

It would be better energy-consumption wise to buy the router for 1200 RS instead of a USB or PCI WIFI card for around 800 RS.

Reasons:

You won't keep the PC on 24/7 but the router you will buy will remain on 24/7 without any issues. Plus if you have loadshedding, you can put the router on a UPS or generator line and it will work easily.

The range of USB and PCI WIFI devices is very small. And the ping/latency you will get will be higher in USB and PCI WIFI devices. Also cheaper WIFI devices don't have the support for 'n' version of WIFI, whereas routers from Tenda and TP Link have such support.

You can connect up to 4 devices using LAN hubs which are present on the WIFI router, but if you use a PC, you won't get any additional LAN hubs (benefit of using LAN hubs is that sharing files between your connected computers will be much much faster as compared to sharing files on WIFI). For me, a 600 MB file takes around 5-10 minutes to share on a WIFI connection compared to around 6-10 seconds on a wired connection between my networked PCs.

So in the end, you will get better range, better sharing speed, better bandwidth, better ping, 24/7 up-time if you buy a router instead of a USB/PCI WIFI device.

Also, as Saad said above, if you can find a router that is compatible with the DD-WRT or Tomato firmwares, then you are in luck because you can increase range of your router by 2x if you use those firmwares.
