Playstation Why I Bought a PS3

No, this thread is not about why I bought a PS3 . This is an editorial at IGN by Ryan Geddes, their Xbox editor, in which he explains what made him buy a PS3 even though he has been an Xbox fan since the original Xbox was launched.

It's a interesting read. Specially his comments about Final Fantasy XIII on X360 :wink2:

But despite my heavy investment in Microsoft's gaming platform, something about a proper new Final Fantasy game appearing on the Xbox 360 felt horribly wrong, like dropping a Ferrari engine into a Buick body. Sure, she'll run, but the soul of the machine would just be off somehow.

But the same company that gave me an incredible library of games and the most robust online console gaming experience to date also let me down. With a wink and a nod, it sold me a poorly constructed piece of hardware that consistently failed me. The Xbox 360 feels cobbled together. It breaks down and leaves me with a pile of unplayable games for weeks at a time. It's clunky and inelegant. It's Microsoft Windows all over again. And it makes me feel like a fool for relying on it.

Microsoft is many things, but cool isn't one of them. There's a cloud of insecure awkwardness hovering over Microsoft's Xbox persona, and there aren't enough Kudo Tsunodas and Ryan Paytons on Earth to change that.

In essence, Sony finally reached into Microsoft's pocket, removed hundreds of my future gaming dollars and placed them in its own. Look for that to happen more and more in 2010, as Sony ratchets up its game and Microsoft continues to confuse its core market with talk of Project Natal.

there's something about having a PlayStation in my entertainment center again that just feels right. Sure, the PS3 still has its problems -- if you've read this far, you already know what they are -- but now I can rest easy knowing I'll be able to play Final Fantasy XIII in peace, confident that it won't grind to a halt in the middle of a boss fight.

And more importantly, I'll feel cool while I do it.

The dude makes some valid points but FF13 on 360 doesn't make sense? Granted, Lost Odyssey and other JRPGs on 360 aren't upto the FF mark but why do they make sense...and ALL other 3rd party games that made the jump from PS to Xbox this gen?

Anyways...I bought a Ps3 because of Uncharted 2 and it was worth every bit.

I do believe changing discs is an extremely minor and exaggerated nuisance....he really should've stated a better reason to get it on the PS3....*hint* native 1080p CG cut scenes *hint*

and disc swapping is a pretty big non-issue, LO has 4 discs and disc swaps only take place at story intermissions, never during a fight.

He just don't want a FFUUU moment while playing FFXIII on 360, the hardware failure he's talking about. He's afraid of playing FF13 splitted on 2 360 consoles and he already bought 2-3 x360's already after RROD. According to him, PS3 will allow him to play FF13 without any fear of hardware crap halfway through the game.
