Recently, I have started playing online games but cannot find any good gaming servers except for counter-strike 1.6. Even though it has rubbish graphics. I found only one "omega" server for unreal tournament 2004, and that too remains inactive, almost always.

What puzzles me is that why aren't servers for games such as Call of Duty 1 and 2 or of Halo and for games like these existent?

The main reason of this is that broadband is still on the starting level here in Pakistan, means broadband internet access is not available to everyone i-e home users and it's still very expensive here as compared to Europe and US..if broadband becomes cheaper then anyone can make online servers from their homes as the gamers done in US and Europe!

Furthermore, Our ISPs are more interested in making money so they just don't want to provide better fatalities to their customers like gaming servers etc unlike in other countries!

Now if we go towards our own solution i-e making our own gaming server by taking a server on rent from a international company then that will quite expensive too as usually you need to pay on the number of players/slot basis *starting from US$40+/mo* for CS which a home user like us can hardly afford.

Above are the main reasons for the less Pakistani online gaming servers.

Thanks,

Did you both read my reply carefully? that's what I said in my post at the start:

Got it? that's explain the private servers part very clearly! and as far as the connection speed concern for making a private online server it depends on you i-e how many players will you allow to play at once? for example:

Lets do some small mathematics for a 10 Players Server:

- 10 Player Server required 200MB of RAM (20MB RAM for each player)

- a 512Kbps connection is required with minimum of realtime 445k upload/download speed, the most important of all is the Upload stream as your server utilize the upload stream more then the down-stream.

now if you have a 256Kbps connection with 190k upload/Down stream (which I can bet you don't have as pakistani DSLs data transfer ratio is usually very low) you can make a 3 or 4 players server.

The above is for counter strike, other games require more better connection due to their graphical and sound contents etc...
