Sup guys,
I'm a bit of a philosophical-ish person and I have my own views on what a perfect game would have. First of all, I'm not here 'looking for ideas' for making a game or anything, I have my own ideas for that. But hey, maybe someday I'll use what I've learnt from this thread.

My question to you people is simply this, 'what is it that you want in a game?'. I'm looking for answers which are completely irrelevant to hardware or technological restrictions or not. Something you just want to see; possible or impossible. Just think outside the box, do you want something like that VR game in Johny Bravo? Near-human-like intelligence in characters?

Something, anything, within or without bounds to technology, generation or whatever; "What do you want?". Not a typical discussion on what's wrong with current video games. I feel like, even with the variety of games out now, there is still some 'magic' missing, they're also similar in regards to annoying collectibles and whatnot. The genres are different but they all feel the same in some reason.

Again, I'm not here farming for ideas, I just want another perspective, other than mine, on what a game could have. One of my top wanted features is the Near-human intelligence and actions of AI not just in regards to moving/killing etc., but as character development as a whole. I have some other 'secret' ideas which I won't write here because I'll be using those when I make my video game debut :3 (some day, but that's a lot of YEARS away :p)

If possible, avoid total generic ideas like "Better graphics, better story", instead focus on HOW would you have a better story. Eager to see some response from you guys.

1) Changing levels. Levels that are constructed maybe in real time, so even when you play the same mission or stage again, you never feel like its all you have done before. You just get a feel that 'omg this is going to be hard again'
2) Adaptive AI. The AI does different stuff and doesnt follow a fixed pattern, adapts to your user.

That's all i can think right now will edit once my mind freshens up. *just woke up*

^That's a good start, though there are games which use procedural gerenation of maps. Games like Persona, Abyss Odyssey, then there was that new horror game on PS4 coming right? But I suppose I get what you're saying, even though the maps each time are different, but they aren't exactly new or exciting.

With so many genres and different parameters of gaming, it is almost impossible to think of a single perfect game.

But if I have to really choose one I would say a perfect game would be a Witcher type RPG but with a full online integration where you can enter the world with friends and other players and a TRUE ALIVE world where every single thing can have some kind of effect, whether it is small or big, where there are true human level intelligent NPCs (A.I) and full randomization, no one knows how anyone would react etc. And the map is the whole planet that the developers make, every little place can be reached.

And a VR headset similar to the one in Sword Art Online that is needed to play the game so you can truly be inside the game and can feel everything and what not. Or same things but with a space/sci-fi type setting, like Mass effect, with the whole Galaxy in our disposal to visit and explore.

I don't specifically want something from a game. I think most games today are perfectly fine and enjoyable. But I seem to lose interest in them after a while. I want a game that does something that makes you WANT to beat it. Very few games I have played these days were able to do it. Not just the story. But just the satisfaction of completing each level or chapter. I can't exactly put my finger on what it is. I hope someone who understands will add to what I have to say. Perhaps it needs the perfect difficulty. Or as said above, adaptive AI to make the game adapt to how I play and adjust the difficulty etc accordingly.

A deep, well paced and entertaining storyline. Adaptive AI is a good way forward aswell.

Also need to have really good visuals, if its a perfect game then perfect visual representation must be present. After having experienced Virtual Reality..The game needs to be VR.

Sound matters alot aswell. So environmental sounds and musical pieces need to be awesome. Dialogues must not seem out of place or too cliche, it should feel natural and human.

Also the art style should capture the aura which the environment is trying to potray. The gameplay should ofcousre be solid, but not super hard or repetitive. It should also not have those freaking 'hints' or arrows pointing to your next objective, the challenge should be there.

The game should last for around 20 hours of gameplay, which I feel is the perfect time span for a game to last.

In my opinion, it would be a game that doesn't try to generalize or underestimate the player. A game that has a good understanding of where the player's mind is headed and how he/she will react to certain stimuli (something akin to The Stanley Parable). Choice is a major factor too and I'd love a game that gives me freedom to chose my own paths and play by my own preferred style rather than restrict me to particular playing style. It would also have a new creative concept that isn't cliched or made gimmicky by over-using it.

Characters should be well fleshed-out and should feel like they have their own lives rather than being a dialogue dump for the protagonist.

Story should be straight-forward and not made unnecessarily complex by relying too much on sub-plots or plot related devices. Music should be naturally progressive and not too flashy or repetitive, it should also be stimulating to the player to a certain degree. Gameplay should serve as an enjoyable experience, one that isn't tainted by repetition. Even if a game allows limited mechanics it should try to craft levels and enemies that rely on using a combo or order of those mechanics rather than having the player mash the attack button without consequence. For me, an intelligent game is the perfect game.

Well, in my opinion, there are five games on this planet that are perfect. Four of them have rich, detailed, atmospheric worlds to explore, good storylines, good casts of characters. They have rock solid gameplay and some of the greatest soundtracks in gaming.

The other one is linear, but it still has a rich and atmospheric world, fantastic characters and story, and rock solid gameplay. And it has one of the greatest soundtracks in gaming as well.

While I love linear games, it's the open-world games that always take the cake. They have endless amounts of replay value. I can always go back to them, no matter what.

Now, onto new perfect games.

Of course, it'd be open-world. With no limits. Do whatever the fuck you want to do. In a rich, historical setting. Like Red Dead Redemption or the good ones from Assassin's Creed. Beautifully crafted countryside, towns, and cities. Loads and loads of secrets to find. Tons of random encounters, sorta like in RDR but even more of that.

Soundtrack to fit the setting and theme of the game.

If it has shooting mechanics, I'd want then to be taken from Max Payne 3 or even Red Dead Redemption. Melee combat would be similar to the Souls series, Bully, and maybe Metal Gear Rising or God Hand. Physics and whatnot would be done on the RAGE or Euphoria, dunno which handles which. Also, an upgraded version of Geomod 2.0 for that heavenly destruction. And maybe some survival mechanics too, for the challenge.

Storyline and characters with the quality of, or even better if possible, The Last of Us and Red Dead Redemption. With lots of waifus. With choices and shit. Kinda like how The Witcher 3 is doing it. Hopefully an emotional rollercoaster.

The game should of course last forever, which I feel is the perfect timespan for a game to last.

Spoiler: show
Or you know, R* could just remaster Red Dead Redemption for PC or PS4 and I'd be fucking happy. And then they can go on to create another Red Dead game.

Spoiler: show
I've had this idea for years now. A Bully and Harry Potter crossover. Just imagine that. Yeah. *sigh*

I can go on and on about ideas about games, but unfortunately they probably will never amount to much. :(

I remember a time when games like GTA were merely a dream......

A lot of factors in current games are pre-determined. "No Man's Sky" is treading a different path and I'm pretty sure it will serve as a benchmark for future innovation. I would like developers to allow players to think out of the box. Let us craft weapons from things around us. Make it unique so that it is not something that is hard-coded.

I would also like an RPG game where I'm actually interacting with NPC's, as in typing my own questions/answers and NPC's respond accordingly. The choices one makes should result in an ending that is unique for every player.

Intelligent bots/search engines are in practice already. They ought to incorporate a similar mechanism in games.

This...is perfect. This is something I've been waiting for a long time. Great thinking outside the box! :salute: This was the kind of response I was expecting from you guys. ^_^

A game where, after every session, I take away a cool moment that's worth discussing over.

A perfect game would have Naughty Dog as the developer & PC as the platform.

A single Player RPG where you have a specific set of characters and one story line for each of them. The main plot should be woven with these stories and all should entangle at one point or another. Much like the RTS Campaigns of Warcraft 3 and frozen throne but at RPG level. combat should be competitive and attractive. Something between "Severance: Blade of Darkness" and "Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning". Good story is always a must. About AI. there is always a fine line between challenging and frustrating. Trying too hard would result in the later. Good story, Combat, Game play and immersion would make up for average AI. The Witcher does quite a few of those things right and stands apart from the others but there is still room for improvement.

Something that changes your perception of what a game is.
Not to blow on the old toot again but .. above is exactly RE4 personified. You practically didn't have shooters like that before RE4. It basically spawned a new generation of over the shoulder shooters.

The original Splinter Cell had the over the shoulder camera while aiming long before RE4 did.

Proof: Splinter Cell Walkthrough - Part 3: Defense Ministry (Gameplay/Playthrough) [HD] - YouTube (skip to 02:40)
Splinter Cell was also a shitty game which gave you game over for being spotted 3 times .. also it wasn't a shooter and didn't even come close to the pacing of RE4.

That's like the whole "Kill Switch" and Gears of War argument :p .., sure one did it first .. the other one REVOLUTIONIZED it.
