Dont buy Zong 4G MBB

They are throttling torrent download speeds. Getting maximum 100kbps on torrents. Used to get over 1MBps but now only 100kbps.
Downloading from websites is still fast. Torrents no more

I'm not a Zong 4G user so I can't test it, but can you guys do the following to see if this helps:

- Try Google DNS, or OpenDNS instead of your local DNS/default DNS.
- Using a different BitTorrent client instead of the mainstream one like uTorrent. Try Deluge, it's open-source and free.
- Switch BitTorent client port, you can easily do that by going into its preferences. (you may have to manually port forward through the router control panel) This is to test if they've blocked certain ports to throttle.
- Using VPN (seems like the only solution confirmed to be working)

I have been using Zong MBB since past three months and yes, they have started throttling torrent downloads. (Curses ^ Infinity)

I used to get around 1 - 1.5 mega bytes per second, but I am getting only 100K. I am using Vuze client. Google DNS do not work. But yes, VPN works. Will try out a few different things to see what exactly can work.

What's a good VPN for this? Free VPN.

I am using Express VPN, which is a paid VPN. I haven't tried any of the free ones, but you can give it a shot.

Just double checking, using express vpn works fine? no throttling?

Sent zong and email to which they replied "With reference to your email; please note that issue with subject to internet/Data(speed & connectivity) is under consideration and is a known issue Nationwide. Further, no concrete timeline will be shared in this regard."

I then called them up. The rep said that there was an issue which was resolved. I am like how can I get 15 Mbps speeds during a speed test yet downloading is capped to around 100-130 (not to mention any video streaming is extremely poor)? Complaint is there, lets see what they say.

Yes, throttling was resolved with express vpn.

There speed is generally pretty bad since past few days. I checked with their customer care centre and they said the same thing you got in the reply. "Nationwide speed issue." I was getting max around 200k-300k yesterday. :(

OK. So looking at vpns, not too familiar with them yet. I downloading hotspot shield vpn (in basic form is free) just to see how it goes, before I spend on a better vpn service.

When I connect downloads (torrents) have gone upto 1.5MB/s. When I disconnect goes back down to about 100KB/s. But it is not consistent not sure if its helping or something is happening on zongs end. Someone please try this, if it helps.

Captain here, in order to bypass there throttling restrictions, VPN is not too good. U need to re-route your network traffic on TOR rely. U can google "how to send traffic on TOR Rely"

Also, as they are implying policies on the users end, i dont think simple trick will bypass that. One need to find security weakness and do some modification there..

So zong called me again after another stronger email. The argument is simple, why are you capping speeds for video downloads? I guess there was a nationwide issue few days ago so they keep using that as an excuse saying it was fixed, when I am saying something else. I clearly said, speeds are capped 100-120KB/s, yet if I download another file from a site (like say software from download.com) its upto 15Mbps. No answer can be given, they will get back to me after investigation.

Anyways moving on, here are some screen shots connecting to basic vpn service for hotspot I mentioned before:

Before connecting.

after connecting, vuze picks up on it.

Speeds up again

PS, i would not install hotspot shield, put malware on my system. Gonna get a decent paid vpn service now.

Zong throttling still present, I haven't spoken to customer service about this yet but will do so today. I used Hotspot shield to bypass the block and it worked, speeds increased from 100k to 900k, but still not satisfying because I was previously receiving 2mb/s :-(

Unfortunately I renewed my package just a few days ago and I'll stick it out for this month.. but if this persists then I will change my ISP, Fiberlink looks good and currently I am also using BrainNet, I'll have to ask them whether they can install a second setup box on the same fiber.

Any updates from Zong yet regarding this bullshit?
