Sony is already thinking about Venom 2 and they won't make the jump to an R-rating. After bringing Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony once again wanted to get a shared universe of their own. Tom Hardy was cast to lead Venom as Eddie Brock, and the early box office results - a record setting $80 million opening in October - indicate that this will hardly be the last Spidey-related property the studio makes. Next up is going to be Jared Leto's Morbius, but attention is turning towards what seems to be an inevitable sequel.
Based on the post-credits scene for Venom, it's quite clear where they want to take the character next. Eddie visits the prison cell of Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson), who ends the movie saying, "When I get out, and I will, there will be carnage." An appearance by Carnage was heavily rumored for Venom and, with the violent symbiote set to be the villain of a sequel, many fans wanted to see Venom and Carnage let loose with an R-rating, but that isn't happening.

Collider spoke to Venom producer Avi Arad about the chances for Venom 2 to move up the MPAA's rating scale. After all, the first Venom was reportedly envisioned as an R-rated movie, but was PG-13 when everything was all said and done. Despite Carnage joining the mix, Arad doesn't believe he can only be done right with an R-rating.
"When you hear Carnage, the only thing you can think of is R. But, if you know his story, if you really know the comic, there’s no R here. He’s a tortured soul. It’s not about what he does, because we never have to show the knife going from here to there, and the blood is pouring. What you have to show is, what is the motivation? Was he born like that, or [is he] someone we should feel for, because if you succeeding in making a villain someone you can feel for, jackpot."

As disappointed as some fans may be that Venom 2 won't jump to an R-rating, one can hardly blame Sony for sticking with a PG-13 vision. The first movie just broke box office records with a PG-13 rating even with largely negative reviews from critics. If a sequel is better executed and has more positive reactions, there's no reason to believe Venom 2 won't perform even better if Carnage is included. Sony found success with PG-13, so why would they switch to R and potentially shrink their audience?
Of course, this may still not sit well with many. But, Arad believes they'll be able to craft the right story around Carnage that won't mandate extreme violence or anything else that would warrant an R-rating. This will, obviously, put a ton of pressure on the writers of Venom 2 to do this, so that way they can make a complicated foe in Carnage, and then leave it up to director Ruben Fleischer (who will likely return for the sequel) to deliver on the action. Hopefully, Arad is proven to be true and Venom 2does the story and characters justice in a PG-13 environment.

[h=1]Venom 2 Officially Sets Andy Serkis To Direct[/h]

Andy Serkis is officially directing Venom 2. Last year, the first Venom movie proved to be a massive box office hit despite earning mostly negative reviews from critics. With Tom Hardy in the starring role as Eddie Brock, Venomearned a whopping $856 million worldwide against a production budget of only $100 million, ensuring that followups would be made. Sony was extremely confident in what they had even before Venom premiered, as they included a post-credits stinger featuring blatant sequel setup with Woody Harrelson's Cletus Kasady.
Despite the overwhelming success of Venom, the sequel was poised to change up the creative team. Director Ruben Fleischer is not returning, as evidenced by reports in late July that Sony was searching for his replacement. One of those names, interestingly enough, was Andy Serkis. Hardy even went as far as to tease Serkis' hiring on social media, and now it's official. Serkis is directing Venom 2.

The news comes courtesy of THR, who say Serkis met with Sony on July 22 to discuss the film. Venom 2 will be the third directorial outing of Serkis' career, following Breathe and Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle. Serkis confirmed the news on his official Twitter account:

Serkis, of course, his renowned for his various motion-capture performance roles in massive blockbusters like the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the rebooted Planet of the Apes series, and the first two installments of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. While he continues to add to his acting résumé (including an in-the-flesh appearance in Black Panther), Serkis is also expanding his horizons by trying his hand at directing. While neither of his previous directorial offerings became critical darlings, Serkis demonstrated a lot of promise behind the camera, whether it be getting fine performances out of his actors or handling big-scale visual effects. Hopefully he'll be able to hit a home run with Venom 2, which reads as a natural evolution of his developing career as a helmsman. Someone with Serkis' penchant for special effects will likely be a strong fit for Venom 2. It should be fun to see what he can do with the Eddie/Venom dynamic and how he stages scenes of Eddie "Golluming."

Venom was the massive hit Sony desperately needed,
breaking box office records during its run and launching a full franchise for other films based on various Spider-Man villains. The sequel is clearly a priority for the studio, eager to strike while the iron is burning hot and fan interest is high. From the sound of it, Sony isn't keen to simply rests on their laurels because they know there's a built-in audience. Serkis is an inspired choice for director, and he clearly impressed executives with his vision for Venom 2. It'll be fascinating to see what he brings to the table and if he can improve the series' critical standing.

[h=1]Venom 2: Naomie Harris Addresses Reports She'll Play Shriek[/h]

While promoting her latest film, Black and Blue, Naomie Harris discussed a potential role in Venom 2. Last week, it was reported that Harris was in talksto play the Spider-Man villain Shriek in the Andy Serkis-directed Venomsequel, which is set to begin filming soon. Sony recently announced an untitled Marvel film scheduled for an October 2020 release date; due to the fact thatVenom was released in October of 2018, fans are speculating the sequel will see a similar release window.
The star-studded original, following symbiote-infected journalist Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy), was a commercial success, making $855 million worldwide.Venom’s producers, Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal are all returning for the sequel and Kelly Marcel is working on the script. Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, and Woody Harrelson are all set to reprise their Venom roles, and with Harris potentially joining them, Venom 2 could be just as bankable as its predecessor.

In the new thriller,
Black and Blue, Harris plays a rookie policewoman morally equatable with that of the archetypal hero. When asked by Black Film if she was a comic book fan and if she’d enjoy playing a villain, Harris expressed a palpable amount of enthusiasm as well as a desire to work with Serkis and Harrelson, but stressed the fact that she was still in negotiations, and nothing was yet final.

The character of Shriek or Frances Louise Barrion made her Marvel Comics debut in 1993. Shriek is a gothic mutant whose abilities include sound manipulation and a telepathic knack for bringing out the worst in people - she’s very much a 1990s supervillain.
During the events of Maximum Carnage, Shriek becomes the love interest of Cletus Kasady/Carnage (Harrelson) while the pair goes around New York on a killing spree. Harris, who is known for playing characters like Eve Moneypenny in the Bond franchise and Paula in Moonlight (for which she received an Oscar nomination), could bring the character to life in a massive way.

Black Film's interview doesn't tell fans much, but Harris' excitement is interesting nonetheless. With an actor of her caliber being scouted by Sony, writer Kelly Marcel must have some big plans for Shriek in Venom 2. After meeting Cletus Kasady at Ravencroft mental institution in the comics, Shriek becomes Carnage’s lover and sidekick. Marcel probably plans on giving Shriek more agency in her cinematic adaptation,
perhaps even overshadowing Harrelson’s Carnage. The Maximum Carnage arc (which Shriek may be a signifier of), brought the aforementioned villains into conflict with Spider-Man, Venom, and a slew of other characters (from Iron Fist to Captain America). One can only fathom what Sony, Marvel and potentially, Disney, have planned forVenom 2. The sequel will no doubt be a bigger and darker harbinger of whatever kind of shared universe (and characters) the future holds.

[h=1]Venom 2 Release Date Delayed 8 Months To Summer 2021[/h]

Sony officially delays Venom 2's release date by eight months; the Spider-Man spinoff sequel will now hit theaters in June 2021 instead.

Sony has officially delayed Venom 2's release date by eight months. While it was far from a critical darling, the first Venom was a huge box office success (grossing $856 million on an estimated $100 million budget) and lay the groundwork for Sony to continue develop solo films centered around villains and antiheroes from the Spider-Man comic books. Suffice it to say,Venom 2 has since received a green-light, with Tom Hardy once again starring as Eddie Brock and Andy Serkis taking over as director from Ruben Fleischer.
Building on the tease in the original Venom's post-credits scenes, the sequel will pit Eddie and his symbiote counterpart against Woody Harrelson as the serial killer Cletus Kasady and his own alien "buddy", Carnage. As with every other developing movie and TV show, Venom 2 was forced to shut down production last month over health and safety concerns in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Curiously, though, Sony didn't move the sequel from its previous spot in October when it overhauled its 2020 release slate a few weeks back.

Today, the studio changed that and officially moved Venom 2 back eight months from its original October 2, 2020 release date to June 25, 2021 instead. It has also given the sequel a proper title in the form of Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Thanks to its release date change, Venom 2 will now hit theaters after Sony's Morbius (which was delayed from July 2020 to March 2021 earlier this month), as was originally the studio's plan. Although it's unclear if the two Spider-Man antihero movies will connect to one another in any significant way, the trailers for Morbius have indicated Sony is using the film to further build up to the Sinister Six crossover they've been wanting to make for years (going back to before Spider-Man joined the MCU). As such, it might be important for Jared Leto's vampiric superhero to make his way to the big screen before Hardy gets his symbiote on again, from an overarching storytelling perspective.
Their decision to shift Serkis' sequel to a prime summertime spot is further testament to Sony's faith in both the strength of the Venom brand and the film's ability to turn a healthy profit, even during one of the more traditionally competitive frames of the annual box office. At the moment, Venom 2 is scheduled to open two weeks after Jurassic World: Dominion, which will be targeting most of the same demographics. However, with production on the third Jurassic World shut-down for the time being because of the coronavirus, odds are the dino-sequel will eventually be pushed back to a later spot in 2021 (if not all the way back to 2022), clearing the way for Eddie and Venom to bite the heads off their competitors... y'know, figuratively speaking.
