Valve's evolving Steam Controller has been finalized, according to the CEO of Origin PC, and will be shown off during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco in March, GameSpot reports.

"At GDC, they're going to have more information," Origin's Kevin Wasielewski told GameStop during a CES interview. "And we'll be there. That's the official stuff we can say. They came out with the controller, then they got some user feedback, and they had to revamp it; they got some more user feedback and had to revamp it again. So they went through that like three or four times. And now their controller is finalized. So now they're going to production and at GDC is when they're going to announce more stuff."

The controller has been under development, changing several times, since its 2013 unveiling. Concepts for the controller have included a touch-pad and feedback. The original version did not have standard thumbsticks, face buttons nor a directional pad when it was on display at last year's CES. (Seen in the video above.)

Valve decided not to attend this year's CES and won't be hosting a developers conference this year. Instead, the company says it wants to focus its public showing on the upcoming Game Developers Conference.

lol really? I for one am quite interested in getting my hands on this since the ergonomic design looks....very interesting from this picture. The left thumbstick is an excellent touch. For FPS games, using that in conjunction with the precision of the track pad on the right will work wonders.

looks more like a shit-box controller.
You mean the controller that has arguably the best ergonomics out there?

This doesn't look half bad, actually. It should be comfortable to hold and must perform better than conventional game controllers. That's all I ask of it.

I have high-hopes from the dual track-pads. It'll be interesting to see how they improve gameplay experience in shooters.

Well atleast in picture it looks way too ugly.

Those DPADs and right touch pad will work wonders in a FIFA game too! I am glad they went with a new approach. The pad looks sleek as hell, and I just might buy it day 1 if I have the money at hand :)

That is an incredibly shitty looking design.

How it operates in actual hands-on environment is a different matter.

Though why is the analog stick in the lower position, it should be higher and the track pad should be lower.

What a wonderful sequence of backtracks lol
From showcasing dual track pads to retaining dual track pads in the final design. Retaining the single most defining feature of this controller. Try harder please.

The whole project was based on consumer feedback as well in case you overlooked that.

Yep. As is stands, I find the current controllers abysmal in games which have free camera control. Moreover, the analog stick is just dreadful for aiming.

Yeah, let's forget that by adding an alternative to one of the trackpads and by adding face buttons in the traditional 4-button layout, they're actually moving farther away from their original design and vision for the controller.

Back when the original design was revealed, I vaguely recall someone at Valve boasting that the controller won't even need buttons because each of trackpads can function as 4 buttons. So much for that idea. Since its announcement, all the changes that have been incorporated into the controller have only made it similar to the traditional controller, and this is a fact.
