no i was saying that unless you have source (movie,music etc) is in dolby / dts your receiver will only pick it up as PCM (lossless stereo signal), the optic out which we normally find in onboard sound cards and other alternatives is of pass through nature (i.e. send the signal as it is without modifying) so when playing games you won't be able to get a true 5.1 surround when using optic cable, that's where technologies such as Dolby Digital Live and DTS Connect comes in, they encode the signal in real time to DDL or DTS Connect which is picked and processed accordingly by your receiver
