[h=1]You Can Now Use the Dual Shock 4 Controller Wirelessly With PlayStation 3[/h]
Not all features are fully functional but it's enough to get you gaming.
It's no secret that the Dual Shock 4 controller can be used on the PlayStation 3. The caveat however is that you'd need to keep the controller wired via USB to the console, something that is a bit of an inconvenience ever since we entered the age of wireless controllers.
Thanks to the latest PlayStation 3 firmware update released just last week, the Dual Shock 4 controller can work with the PS3 without being tethered by a cable.
1. Connect Dual Shock 4 controller via USB cable and turn on the PlayStation 3
2. Go to Settings -> Accessory Settings -> Manage Bluetooth Devices
3. Register new device and start scanning
4. Unplug Dual Shock 4 controller and hold PS & Share buttons.
5. Once the lightbar flashes on the Dual Shock 4, plug the controller via cable and select Wireless Controller
6. Complete registration and unplug the controller for wireless gameplay
This method will allow you to use the DS4 controller wirelessly but the PS3 still won't recognize it as an official Sony controller. What that means is that some functionality still won't work like the PS button, Sixaxis motion controls, or vibration.
Still, there's probably a good reason one might want to switch over to the DS4 controller even without these features, considering that
Bungie helped design the DS4 controller in the first place. Personally I don't really mind using the Dual Shock 3 controller, but people have their preferences and this is just one more option for the players.
