The town is also known as the Cave City of Lasbella, the Cave Dwellings of Gondrani, the House of the Spirits, and the town of Mai Goudrani.

The site is 20 kilometres (12 mi) to the north of the ancient town of Bela and 175 kilometres (109 mi) from Karachi, in Lasbella District of Balochistan.

The exact history of the town is not known, nor who built the caves. Historians believe that the town was once a large Buddhist monastery dating back to the eighth century, when the region was part of a Buddhist kingdom.[André Wink in his book Early Medieval India and the Expansion of Islam: 7th-11th Centuries states that:

very nice pictures, I would recommend you to go ahead and explore Baluchistan, its full of such wonders. Hingol National Park, Coastal Highway, and Gawadar to Jivani and then if start to climb upwards you will enjoy your journey to Kech and Panjgur and so on. There is a salt plain (a very huge one) in Panjgur and the rain water reservoirs built by English rulers in Gawadar are worth a shot, you'll also enjoy a visit to mud volcano in there.
