Not sure about the discount, you'd have to clear that up with them, but your line can support 10 Mbps without affecting stability, so you should opt for the upgrade.
To add on, your line can support up to 21Mbps until stability becomes a major issue. This doesn't mean you should opt for 20Mbps - you need to leave some headroom for any fluctuations. 18Mbps should be safe enough if you want to take things to the extreme (but check during the rains - your attainable line rate will usually decrease during the rains).

Hello. I received a call from 1218 about converting my 6MB to 10MB at 2249Rs (which is the price of 8MB internet package).
So, my question is, are there any hidden charges like we are getting 250 discount on all freedom unlimited call package. Would that discount still be applicable.

Other thing is can my line support 10Mb line. Here are my stats. :

Statistics -- ADSL

Mode:ADSL2+
Type:Interleave
Line Coding:Trellis On
Status:No Defect
Link Power State:L0
DownstreamUpstream
SNR Margin (dB):17.17.8
Attenuation (dB):17.59.5
Output Power (dBm):19.512.3
Attainable Rate (Kbps):219521087
Rate (Kbps):67491070
MSGc (number of bytes in overhead channel message):6429
B (number of bytes in Mux Data Frame):1462
M (number of Mux Data Frames in FEC Data Frame):11
T (Mux Data Frames over sync bytes):131
R (number of check bytes in FEC Data Frame):1610
S (ratio of FEC over PMD Data Frame length):0.07081.8540
L (number of bits in PMD Data Frame):3505315
D (interleaver depth):2888
Delay (msec):53
Your line stats are good enough for 10MB. If you were told by 1218 that there are no hidden charges then rest assured there are none. PTCL offers such incentives under various promotions. I was once upgraded to 15MB at the cost of 8MB package (Rs 2250 pm).

Thank you so much. There is something else, I tried to initiate the process and just randomly asked the 1218 guy about VDSL and as it turns out my area does have VDSL2. So, now I am thinking about converting to VDSL2. I would've already ordered it but the VDSL modem costs 4000 (I have old modem at the moment) so now I need to know whether my line specifically upstream can support good upload speeds or not.
So, do you guys think my line can support reliable VDSL2 connection. Thanks for all your help.

NOTE: The Cabinet (MSAG) is around 1 KM away from my home. So, it's Cabinet>fiber>DP>myhome

I can't say whether your line supports VDSL2, but I suspect if it's in your area, but if VDSL is in your area, my understanding is the wiring will be slightly different (outside your house) since they use multiple cables (judging from my quick skimming of an article), which should yield greater stability.

Since your current attainable line rate is quite high, I suppose you should easily be able to achieve decent VDSL speeds... but the exchange guys will be able to tell you better.

Your attainable rate will be different once a VDSL line is installed, so it's hard to tell. However, considering your current stats and distance from the MSAG, VDSL shouldn't be an issue.

It's definitely worth the upgrade, especially in the long run if you want to upgrade to a higher speed package, and just because it's more stable than ADSL.,

Twitch streams have been alot laggy lately. I am on 15Mbps GPON and now since a couple of months, I can't even watch in 720p on Twitch. Anyone else also facing this?

I'm using OpenDNS (since Google's DNS prefers European IPs over Asian/Singaporean IPs) and I just ran a test with Among Us - and no buffering.

Here's a screenshot of the stream details: https://pasteboard.co/JIp2F3q.png

And here's the ping to live.twitch.tv
Spoiler: show

paping v1.5.5 - Copyright (c) 2011 Mike Lovell

Connecting to bkk.contribute.live-video.net [99.181.88.30] on TCP 443:

Connected to 99.181.88.30: time=133.86ms protocol=TCP port=443
Connected to 99.181.88.30: time=138.04ms protocol=TCP port=443
Connected to 99.181.88.30: time=136.53ms protocol=TCP port=443
Connected to 99.181.88.30: time=133.73ms protocol=TCP port=443

Connection statistics:
Attempted = 4, Connected = 4, Failed = 0 (0.00%)
Approximate connection times:
Minimum = 133.73ms, Maximum = 138.04ms, Average = 135.54ms

But interestingly, the stream seems to be fetching data from the London datacenter (video-edge-c67a80.lhr03.abs.hls.ttvnw.net) so changing the DNS won't really have an impact as Twitch is probably assigning these datacenters (just as Youtube assigns them to your ISP's cache).

Anyway, I'm on GPON as well.

I can't ping live.twitch.tv. It says request timed out.
EDIT: I just checked the streaming on the android app and it was smooth on 1080p60.So, I think there is something wrong on my PC (connected through ethernet). I installed radmin VPN a few days back, I have uninstalled it but no difference. Any ideas how can I troubleshoot this issue?

When you uninstall a VPN, make sure the adapters its installed are also removed (right click on Start, go to Device Manager, and check in Network Adapters - remove anything that's not related to your wifi or ethernet port, or anything else that look strange. Just make sure you don't select the option to delete the drivers when uninstalling so that your PC can install the drivers for the actual hardware).

Also, make sure that your CPU isn't being taxed by some app - a high CPU usage can also lead to stutters and lags.

As for pinging live.twitch.tv, they've blocked all ICMP requests - so I use "paping" (you need to download it, it's free) which lets you ping via TCP to servers on any port.

Yes, I did remove the adapter as well. Only twitch streams are struggling, rest of the internet is perfectly fine. Will try out paping in the morning and post the results. Thanks!

UPDATE:
So, I pinged it as you suggested as these are the results:

I think the latency seems similar to yours, but I don't get why I am getting huge amount of buffering on Windows only. @shaheerk Anything else you suggest me to try out?

UPDATE 2: I think I have now know the issue, it is the Netherlands datacenter I am being connected to according the Net Limiter. When I used a VPN to connect to a Honk Kong server, the stream was smooth. Now I tried blocking the IP of that NL server but it stills connects to another NL server. Is there any better way I can block NL server other than using VPN everytime?

You sure it's the NL datacenter or the UK datacenter?

Thing is - there really isn't a way to fix it unless you can tell PTCL another route to the datacenter. And to determine that, you need a VPN - see which route the VPN takes, and try tracing to one of the last few hops (so that you're forced through another route). But then, there really is no easy way since
1. there's no guarantee they'll pay heed
2. there's no guarantee it'll work.

So - save yourself the hassle and use a VPN. I have to use it with my IPTV subscription since some datacenters don't have a good route on PTCL.

According to the Netlimiter, it is Amsterdam, NL. The strange thing is that on Chrome Android (as well as the app) , it works flawlessly on source quality. Anyway to determine the datacenter on Android?

Not sure abou Android, but I determined the datacenter by basically opening a stream in Chrome, then pressing F-12 on the keyboard, and then read the server address where the video stream was coming in from.

Mine said UK (as I posted earlier). It's possible they're using a round robin mechanism (as is the case with most DNS resolvers, which is why you never get the same IP all the time for some websites). Think of it as "load management". Not efficient load management, but some kind of management nonetheless.

So, I updated NetLimiter on both my laptop and PC. Now, it says UK as geolocation for twitch stream. But again, it is laggy af on PC and absolutely fine on laptop and android. What I have tried so far is Safe Mode, Incognito Mode, different browser (New Edge) and reinstalling Ethernet adapter drivers and nothing is working as far is twitch is concerned. I have no clue what else to look for.

And this is the part where I say "your only other option is to use a VPN because of how the internet works".

Well I am speechless 😶 This is some kind of wizardry going on lol. I am absolutely clueless.
It's just how the internet works - there's not much you can do.

For example, you can go from Islamabad to Lahore either via the GT Road (which is a congested hot mess during the day) which will be shorter, or you could go via the motorway (which is a clean, smooth, faster, more reliable road despite taking a longer distance). PTCL usually uses the GT Road since it is suitable for general traffic and what-not, but you can use a VPN and say that you want to go to Lahore via Bhera (and not Gujar Khan).

Unless PTCL change something and they begin to prefer the motorway for their routes. Good luck convincing them to do that.

Hey guys,

My area finally got VDSL2 upgrade. Does anyone know the procedure of how to set up PPPoE bridging?
It was pretty simple with ADSL, but with VDSL2 there's stuff like VLAN ID and TPID i'm not clear on.

Modem is ZTE ZXHN H168N.
