This thread will serve as PG's hub for all things F1. Now onto the season itself, Charlie was a pussy waiting around so much for Quali but the race was pretty awesome. Especially Ricciardo's overtakes on Raikkonen and Perez. The Ferrari's were nowhere to be found, I can't believe they were so much off the pace. I was rooting for a Daniel, or long shot Ocon or Stroll podium but oh well.

What do you guys think of McLaren securing Renault power? Should they stick with Honda? I'm personally conflicted as being my favorite team, I want them to perform better with Honda, as they are the defacto works team but Honda have proven to be so fucking incompetent. Spec 3.7 was +4BHP and some 2 tenths faster I think but they got annihilated at Monza. Singapore will suit them better, but Spec 4 is now being touted as a very major upgrade in both performance reliability terms. Still though, that doesn't fix the problem and McLaren really need to be a podium challenging team by next season.
@StrikerX, @NaNoW. Any other F1 fans here?

yea been following Mclaren since the days of Mika Haikkonen, always been my fav team... i agree they should stick with honda, going to ren engine will result in mclaren being a customer rather than works team. honda is making progress, but i think they will switch to ren engine for a season or two and let honda develop with torro rosso, and hopefully make their own engines from 2020 onwards.

RBR has a veto on Renault engines if I remember correctly. I don't think they'll be too happy arming McLaren as they have good enough resources to come close to RBR.

Yeah, but I think at Monza Renault executives did come out the McLaren motorhome and talks definitely took place. People have been saying the MCL-32 is RB13 level chassis, and with a Renault engine I think McLaren definitely can match RBR.

Honda has been making progress since 3 years man, they are nowhere near even Renault. I know the 2017 engine is an entirely new concept but 3 years is really unacceptable. McLaren's image has really taken a hit due to this. RBE poached their sponsors. Honda is still a big if, everyone is saying they will eventually get it right but 3 years and there haven't been any improvements. I don't think Honda will allow this one or two season switch to Renault. If McLaren drop Honda and Honda goes to Toro Rosso, RBR will have more leverage. The situation is really iffy and I really want McLaren to do well, it hurts to see my favorite team in the back markers. I think McLaren should continue for one more season with Honda, and if they don't improve then drop them.

BTW there is also talk that Porsche is interested in the new 2020 regs. Perhaps McLaren can snag them given their historic partnership but I doubt considering they are competitors in road car market.

Rumour has it that Sainz will race for Renault from Malaysia onwards. Toro Rosso will switch to Honda and McLaren will switch to Renault.

AMUS confirmed this as well, but Gasly is denying that he will race for STR in Malaysia. I'm double minded about McLaren going to Renault but Honda has been such utter shit that it might make sense. I mean Toyota had a huge budget and for so many seasons they couldn't build a half decent engine or car. There is no prediction how much Honda will improve but the new 2021 regs will be crucial for them. Its a win-win for Red Bull since they get STR to be a test bed for Honda and essentially become a works team as soon as Honda becomes good, if ever.

Zak Brown did mention that McLaren is losing more money and Honda's 100m won't make much of a difference and considering they know first hand the development of the Honda engine I think next year's will be shit too but long term it might come to bite them in the ass. There are rumors that McLaren will consider building their own engine in 2021, but let's see. For now the 2018 season is looking epic, with essentially Merc, Ferrari, RBR and McLaren fighting. I do hope it becomes a repeat of 2010 or 2012 season. That would be epic.

Yup. Read the same on AMuS.

Oh man 2010 and 2012 were fucking great. Will never forget that Alonso death stare inside his helmet.

I started a little later and knew the outcome before hand but man seeing that death stare was something. Something broke inside Nando that day xD

Ferrari's twitter was the very definition of fake news blaming Verstappen for the crash where infact he had nowhere to go. I don't Seb should have squeezed Max so hard right at the start. This basically handed the championship to Lewis, unless Malaysia 2016 happens which is very unlikely. Credit where its due, Mercedes recovered spectacularly given their practice or quali pace compared to Red Bull. Poor Alonso also got hit otherwise, a McLaren podium could have happened.

I was looking forward to the race all day after qualifying man and everything ended at the first corner. Kimi touched Max and went into Seb like a torpedo. Unfortunate for Seb that he had to pay for it with year's championship but that was purely racing incident with no one to blame.

I agree, Seb tried to squeeze Max having no idea Kimi was there too. What hurt most was Fernando was P3 for like a fraction of a second. McLaren had enough pace to keep P3 for Fernando man. The championship is as good as Lewis's but Seb was 30 points behind Lewis in 2010 at this stage as well. Varying circumstances, but the rest of the season should be a good one.

Well he might come close but I think we have come full circle from Malaysia last year. This championship is Lewis's.

Malaysia's last race didn't exactly go off to a great start. If there was a little bit more traffic near the kerb than that would have been quite dangerous. Even more impressive that Kimi managed to avoid it

Is Kubica coming back to F1? I really hope so, the man has all the talent an F1 winner needs.
Still has a chance, although he is reserve driver for Williams, I'm not sure in the combination of Stroll and Sirotkin taking Williams forward. Do hope he returns though

What an amazing drive by Vettel. Kept Bottas out with tyres that were gone. Shame for Red Bull though, Daniel could have had a chance for the win here.
Gasly was amazing as well securing P4.

Big news lads, Red Bull is going with the Honda engine next season. I know fans are triggered and calling for McLaren's head but Honda have been atrocious since they came back and this season was always damage limitations for them considering their late switch. Their performances this season have been pretty decent IMO barring Canada. Next season has potential to be 2012 level good.

Ricciardo leaving Red Bull for Renault! A step back maybe? Who knows. But that's big big news.
Came out of nowhere too lol. I really wished he'd move to Ferrari but looking at from Ricciardo's perspective it sounds like a decent move. He'll be one of the best paid drivers on the grid, can get the team built around him. With Red Bull expecting a set back next year with Honda engines, I really hope Renault steps up and at-least keep pace with Red Bull. 2021 should be interesting as hell though, with most drivers out of contract and new regs equalizing the field.
