So 3G is definitely still throttled for prepaid connections. This was inside Greenvalley, and it didn't go above 9 Mbps in any test.

If they have to limit most of their subscribers to this, might as well halve the 2100 MHz spectrum and use it for 4G instead.

Spoiler: show

There are so many reasons why I really want to move out of Mobilink. Is it insane that I'm considering Telenor?

Not really, but just wait it out I guess. None of them are worth switching to yet.

Wait for someone to roll out VoLTE or at least some meaningful 4G upgrades before considering any of them.

What's your take on Telenor's performance lately, in terms of
1. Coverage,
2. Call quality, and
3. Data services on 3G and 4G?

Additionally, can you check at your end (please mention your location/city as well) if you can use data while on a 3G normal voice call. Easiest way: call 555, don't be on wifi, and see if Speedtests works.

Hey.

Even i am amazed at the inproved Telenor data services. I am going to comment on services only; the coverage has improved as well in terms of area. Indoor coverage is as good as previously.

I tested for data speeds on normal sim before subscribing to a package on Data sim. It gave me good speeds.

Now I have subscribed to Rs. 1500 package (50 + 100 GBs) and I am getting about 1.5 MB/s on average where previously i got about 250KB/s .. That's a good improvement for me and does the job.

Still terrible coverage of telenor in Fb area block 9 Karachi. Just checked yesterday barely any signals and hence huge battery drain since phone struggles to maintain signals. Told them about this issue through social media and even talked to a telenor representative. They just don't care

I don't have any coverage issue or call quality issue on Telenor. I live in Garden East, Karachi. I don't use their 2G so I am not sure about their voice quality on that. 3G is fine average and Speed tests results I took just now.

I was in Karachi for a few days and used Telenor 3G quite a lot (Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 14). Speed was almost consistent around 7-8 mbps which is good for 3G.

Btw can someone please explain why Telenor requires a separate SIM for 4G?? My phone has 4G (being used in Dubai) but in Pakistan it connects to 3G only. Telenor is saying I need to replace my SIM. Isn't 3G,4G,5G signal and phone dependent?? How come it's SIM dependent?

Yes 4G is sim dependent as well as phone dependent. If your sim is 3G only supported you need to replace your sim. Dial *443# from your telenor number to verify if your sim is 4G compatible or not.

It is SIM dependent and it has always been.

Telenor only started giving 4G SIMs after they launched it, so if your last visit to Pakistan was before that, you had a 2G/3G only SIM.

You have to get a new one issued. They do home delivery I think.

By "very bad coverage", are you able to pull some figures off your phone to give us an indication how bad? With me, the best 3G signal strength is -89dB, the average ranges between -91 and -99dBm. Telenor, Zong and Mobilink (2100Mhz). Mobilink 3G 900Mz is better but it's jammed and hangs the phone for a while until the network lets the phone go back to 4G, to be able to come back to 3G 2100Mhz.

So here it is folks,
