Black Widow:
I don't know what Kevin Feige and Disney were smoking with this project.
The timing of Black Widow's feature film is a disaster on its own. Why did they not make her the first MCU female superhero solo feature instead of that boring plank Captain Marvel is beyond me, especially considering what happens in Endgame. It's such a big missed opportunity.
On top of that, this movie itself is kinda boring and kinda bleh. Instead of making it a proper spy/assassin thriller in lieu with something like The Winter Soldier but even more serious showing how Natasha became the Black Widow and all that, maybe even take a risk and make it Rated-R for full impact, they just skip all of that and jump way into the future and give you this sugarcoated fluffy family (maybe Dominic Torretto got to them) tale with awkward humour and dialogue. Some of it wasn't bad I'll admit but a lot of it was meh. The acting wasn't bad, so there's that.
It also doesn't help that the movie has this amateurish feel to its filmmaking, giving off vibes like a TV movie. I mean sure there were some big set pieces flexing Disney money but the execution of them along with shoddy CGI and editing made it not pleasant. Pretty much every action scene had some good moments and then a lot of weirdly cut editing along with some awful power scaling where it felt like every person who should be a normal human has super serum injected into them and the one who actually had that strength hardly did anything. No fucks given about the writing I guess.
Apparently, the writer wrote the script in 11 days. It shows. That might have worked with Godzilla vs Kong cause it's Godzilla vs Kong but not here. Anyway, it was a massive disappointment as has been the case with most things MCU lately. But I still wasn't expecting this movie to be this weak. Watch it if you're curious but don't put any high expectations on it. And If I were to rate it, I'd give it a 4/10.
