If anyone has questions regarding the n900 then please ask, I will try helping you out if I can.

The latest firmware PR 1.3 was released a few months ago for the n900, I personally prefer doing a clean install of the firmware by flashing the device but you can always update with the Nokia software updater.

Flashing the device is a piece of cake and nothing to worry about other then your power going out during the flashing process.I have flashed my n900 about 5 times now including the EMMC

as far as the lock code is concerned, I think the only way to get pass is by re flashing the emmc but you may find a better alternative by searching google or threads at maemo.org

The latest version of NITDROID is 0.9 that is build on gingerbread, you can try turning your device into portrait and click the skip button to skip the setup. Android lags a lot at the stock speeds so I suggest you to over clock your device to about 900mhz to achieve usable performance.

i had some questions regarding power kernal.like installing power kernal is like installing a complete new OS?
if so is there any way to save and backup your current OS with all the applications/data/settings and restore it later?

No, installing power kernel or any other kernel infact is like installing an application…
There is a BackUp application @ menu

To manually overclock.
1.Enable extra devels and extras testing (optional) repository in the application manager.
2.Download rootsh
3.Download kernel power flasher and install
4.Reboot
5.OS will load into the new kernel
6. Open xterminal and write root or sudo gainroot
7. enter the following commands:
uname -r
if it shows 2.6.28.10power-omap1 it means kernal is properly installed
8.enter the following commands to xterminal:
kernel-config load ideal
kernel-config default ideal
kernel-config show ( will show you your current settings)
kernel-config limits ( adjust the least clock and the maximum clock of the cpu for e.g "kernel-config limits 250 900" will set the least clock to 250mhz and the maximum clock to 900mhz)
9.Congrats, you have a over clocked device!

I would like to inform you guys that if you know the correct name of an application/package, you can easily download it from the xterminal, it will save time since the application manager is very slow, the command is:
root
apt-get install packagename ( e.g apt-get install kernel-power-flasher )

you can also use faster application manager available in the extra devel repository.
I will tomorrow post a list of the must have applications for the n900 IMO

the mail for exchange application doesn't work well with hotmail.

I am not sure what ways are recommended on the sites you're referring to, but you can download the flasher tool and the latest firmware and use that to reset it to default factory settings. You can also use one of the firware to reset your mmc as well.
