Finished it on Monday. Will talk about the story details (and spoilers) after some more people have finished it here but one thing I can say is that people Abuses will lead to baning about the story and characters based only on leaks are totally clueless, which is unsurprising of course.
I have the same feelings even though I have played for only 5 hours o so. I am enjoying the game very much. Cant say about the rest of the game though. The story is deep. Like it shows much work have been put into. The attention to detail, characters interacting and talking with each other. Facial animations are out of this world.

Did you like the overall story?

23 Hours in the game... Taking it super slow and going through every nook and cranny of the map. Playing on the survivor difficulty is making me progress even slower but I am loving it.

It is mind blowing to see the amount of work put into this game by ND. I though God of War was the game of this generation but it is becoming more and more likelier that its place is going to be taken by this game.

I am utterly floored by every aspect of this game in a way that I haven't been since Breath of the Wild. It's a tie between these two games for me as game of the generation. Neither game is perfect, but didn't need to be in order to have a profound impact on me.

Will share thoughts on the story later on, but I've gotta say the gameplay is best in class; some of the greatest encounter design in a stealth-action game.

@Chandoo @NaNoW @SolitarySoldier @venom @manigamer did you guys know about being able to perform aerial takedowns and drop on your back in a reverse prone stance?

I did like it overall, yes, but I will say that it has bittersweet parts as well. The story is thought-provoking and unsettling in some ways. It's very nuanced and does not follow popular story tropes about good guys and bad guys, saving the day as a hero/killing a villain, or anything like it. These motifs are common in most stories and in a sense, it was there in TLoU as well - at least in the ending because most people would have done what Joel did. But imagine if Joel had let Ellie die for a higher cause (vaccine) and if that story was written and explained with all the nuances and outcomes of making such a choice. It may not have appealed to as many people as it did with a more intuitive and emotional ending where Joel saves Ellie. But that doesn't mean it could not have been just as great a story in itself. So TLoU 2 is different in that regard, which does not mean it is bad. It makes difficult choices that it avoided in the first game, develops a deeper narrative around those choices, and goes beyond one's usual feelings and expectations which have a different manifestation in the circumstances of a post-apocalyptic world where survival and violence are intertwined and, for better or worse, are fundamental to everything.

Let me know how you feel about it when you are done.

Holy f*ck! I had no idea we could do that! :D I just drop behind an enemy and do the usual stealth kill. This is badass and I'm going to do this in my ongoing second playthrough. The animations department in this game is just competing with itself. Like, this is real time gameplay which looks better than cutscene animations in most games.

And yeah, I did know about reverse prone because sometimes you get hit and fall to the ground. I tried aiming during those moments and it's actually pretty good if you fall in grass or behind a cover.

Coincidentally, I have been playing UC4's MP lately and since aerial takedowns are a thing in that game I tried a couple of times if that would work in TLOU 2 too, but i failed both times and since there was no button prompt just before you are about to execute an aerial takedown in UC4, i thought well it might not be a thing in TLOU 2. Glad to know that it exists though, I'll give it a try tonight. I just hope that ND releases the MP add on for this game asap. The original TLOU and even UC4's MP have possibly the most highly underated MP modes of this generation.

So the game is fantastic. Audio and animation systems are exceptional in the game.

Level design has done an exceptional job, it does alot of the heavy lifting and provides a backbone to the Gameplay, Mission design, narrative design (contextual animation/dialogue, pacing, etc) to shine.

The story for me, doesn't connect in the same way as the one for TLOU 1 did for me - for me, where as previous one was a masterpiece, finding depth in silence, this come off as "look at me, so shocking"

@CerebralTiger

Yep.

I am shockingly impressed at how varied the game play is.

I've said this a few times already, but this game is as good of a stealth game as The Phantom Pain was. Almost the same range of moves (obviously with much more detaield animations). The game doesn't communicate well that you can do all the cool things like running jump into prone position with gun out etc.

I'm in my second run now and playing more gung-ho and getting into a lot more open conflicts and fast paced moves, jump killing enemies etc. It's fucking fantastic.

BTW, have you guys seen the guitar cover videos ?

The guitars you can find in-game are pretty versatile and players are using them to make some good covers.

I really really hope they drop some info about the multiplayer soon. It's almost criminal to have gameplay mechanics this good and not have a multiplayer mode.

I've said this a few times already, but this game is as good of a stealth game as The Phantom Pain was. Almost the same range of moves (obviously with much more detaield animations).
I'd say in terms of core mechanics, as in not including Snake's crazy gadgets such as the fulton device or the (lol) cardboard box, TLOU part II exceeds MGSV with the ability to perform aerial takedowns and dodge. Heck, with a well-timed dodge, Ellie can even dodge an incoming arrow lol.

Here's how Snake does aerial takedowns in MGSV :p

For me, the only shortcoming in Ellie's stealth arsenal is her inability to drag and drop corpses into tall grass. Though, you can still hold up and take enemies towards a hidden spot before dropping them, so it's not a major issue.

The game doesn't communicate well that you can do all the cool things like running jump into prone position with gun out etc.
This is something I find really odd. They could've at least had a scenario where you have to perform an aerial takedown during the opening section.

BTW, have you guys seen the guitar cover videos ?
Yeah, great stuff. That minigame's probably some of the best use of the dualshock 4's touchpad in a non-VR game. People who haven't ever played a guitar and are interested could actually get the gist of the different chords and their variations.

Looks artsy in b/w and it does a good job of capturing that vertigo moment. I'd say you have a fair chance of getting in the top 3.

I played for around 5 hours and still into Seattle Day 1. Everything seems good for now. I have to say every time I play a Naughty Dog game, I say they have nailed it when it comes to attention to detail now after this one they have gone one step further. Visuals, hmmmm talking about visuals. It still boggles my mind that how is it even possible on a PS4. Undoubtedly the best looking game of this generation.

@Chandoo what are your thoughts in general? Way to shocking or is it worth it? I will definitely end it by this Weekend. Cant wait to see the credits role before someone spoils it online.
Production: Top tier.

Story: Divisive but I liked it, The Last of Us should be a story about multiple characters in the same world, unlike Uncharted which is so intrinsically linked to Nathan Drake. Different perspectives from people in this world are appreciated.

Gameplay: This is the biggest surprise for me. I'm genuinely impressed at the range and wide scenarios we have in the game. Fundamentally it PLAYS like the first one, but everything is improved/increased tenfold.

So far this has been my GoTY (sorry RE3make). I'm open to be pleasantly surprised by Ghosts of Tsushima or even Cyberpunk :p

We need to do a spoiler podcast once this is done, there are so many things in the game that need open discussion that we can't do here for a while.

Completed the game around 2 days ago.

Just got the platinum today.

My thoughts on the game:

Narrative = 10/10 - The narrative was very well played and I liked it from the first one on how it all played out, how everything got connected, the script/screenplay/dialogues were great.

Plot = 6/10 - The Plot itself didn't interest me especially with the ending, I can understand how it was all portrayed to show a journey of seaguing into maturity, but it was a John Wick movie playable with Tactical Lesibonage Action elements minus the 'oomph' of the John Wick movie's ending.

Gameplay = 7/10 - Quite polished but still not quite polished enough, the gameplay did feel fluid in the beginning, but somehow as I progressed later on and on, it gave the vibes of being rushed. Plus many of the gameplay techniques that are possible were not shown in tutorials or do not even appear in the written tutorials that certain moves are possible. Any game that throws in stealth elements, my first priority and first playthrough is to use stealth completely, hence I didn't play it like a 'run and game' type of game.

Visuals = 9/10 - No question here, visuals look amazing. There were many visual glitches encountered by me on my first playthrough and even my half playthrough.

-------
Overall = 8/10 - A good game, not to be missed even if whatever you read about the story, experience it yourself. For me, it was the journey that mattered and not the endgame.

Here's a snap I took in Photo Mode (no filters/adjustments done outside of the Photo Mode):

Spoiler: show
Punished Ellie is going to make playing TLoU 1 hard for me knowing where she ends up by TLoU 2's end.

TLoU 2 is not a game which will make you feel happy. But it will definitely make you think about everything when the credits roll. :salute:

Graphics are absolutely amazing, animations are great, sound and voice acting are superb. Gameplay is good-fine. Story is shit specially the ending. NO way this game deserves a 10, maybe a 8. This game being rated higher than Witcher 3 is just unbelievable.

Spoiler: show
Kill hundred of people who didn't killed your father figure don't feel remorse. Kill few people who killed your father feel remorse and forgive the one who brutally killed your father. Piece of shit story. I wonder how many women were actually pregnant but not visibly, were killed by Ellie and Abby. Enemies who don't have lines butcher them no problem but characters who have few lines we should feel sorry for them.

Spoiler: show

Ellie has a breakdown in the end because she understands her revenge has no end, she abandoned her family to get revenge and it won't make her any happy.

Also Abby is a shell of herself in the final chapter, she is like 5% of the same person who killed Joel. That and Abby spared Ellie and Dina in the theater fight, there's that too.

And you can avoid killing any NPC if you don't want to :p even the doggos except for that 1 QTE. :p

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.
