Syphon Filter was one of the most popular franchises on the PSOne back in the day. It was also once considered to be a direct contender to Metal Gear Solid on the PSOne. However, after a long slumber on the PSP, the game may make a next gen comeback to give the Metal Gear franchise a run for its money. I have fond memories of the original Syphon Filter game developed by Eidetic studios (now known as Sony Bend). You could say that the first Syphon Filter game put third-person shooters on the map. Back in 1999, Syphon Filter was considered to be Metal Gear Solid’s direct competitor in the stealth-action genre. Both games were released three months of each other so it was natural that the games would be scrutinized and compared.
Although, Syphon Filter had stealth elements in the game, it did not heavily rely on it like the Metal Gear series. In the game you could use almost any object to take cover and lean over to take shots at the enemies. The game garnered great reviews (Metacritic: 90) with sites such as IGN putting it into the top 25 games out of 1,639 titles on the PSOne.
There has been hints dropped recently that Syphon Filter 5 may be in the works with Sony Bend putting up a job posting looking for a PS3 developer. Also, according to the PCB Production Credits page, there is a listing for: SYPHON FILTER 5 - (Facial Mo-cap) – PLAYSTATION3- SONY BEND. It is good to know that the game will heavily utilize Mo-cap down to the facial expressions.
I can’t shake the feeling that Sony may be preemptively bringing this old franchise back onto the main platform. The company is probably preparing to combat a potential vacuum that could be created if the Metal Gear franchise goes multiplatform. In my opinion there is still a good chance that franchises like Metal Gear and Gears of War will go multiplatform in the future. Dont pick on me just because I posted a worthless article. No offense to the MGS Fans and PS3 Fans.

I found this article quiet intriguing , never the less I dont think Syphon filter 5 even can match the awesomeness of MGS IV.

But the part where the article says "The company is probably preparing to combat a potential vacuum that could be created if the Metal Gear franchise goes multiplatform." A strong rumor in place thats why I couldn't held myself back on posting this. It can turnout to be a healthy discussion ? so shall we start PG ? :idea:

So would sony let this happen and let go the awesome MGS franchise going multi ? Still a big question probably a Big Big unsubstantial rumor. But what are we here for discovering every aspect of gaming and to discuss the possibilities.

Last but not the least i forget to discuss the main issue here , Is Syphon Filter is the answer to the Metal Gear on PS3 ? I think the article should be like this. ^_^

The thread title is very confusing. Why would it be the answer for a game that is already on PS3? This statement could have been made if Syphon Filter was releasing on 360.

As far as Syphon Filter coming to PS3 is concerned, that is a very good news. Syphon Filter on PSP is better then Metal Gear on PSP. So I expect good things from this game. But I think this news has been posted here before (or maybe I read it somewhere else :$)

This discussion would go better in the general discussions. Giving the market situation, even if MGS4 doesn't get released on the 360, the next MGS will quite possibly be multiplatform.

Regarding Syphon Filter challenging MGS. Heh, good for us if they're aiming that high.

i love :wub: sypone filter 1-2-3 who came on PSX.these r really exclusive titles on psx days.but after ps2,989 studios lost own title worth.but after psp,they get back in market.

but now theres a big gap in mgs4 n s/f.even not any other title of ps3(kz2,re5) ll beat it as bussiness point of view.

Sony Bend, the studio behind every Syphon Filter title to date, recently put up a help wanted ad calling for a full-time game tools programmer with PS3 or Xbox 360 experience. It's doubtful that they'll need to use the latter of those two, but it's enough to give rise to rumors that Sony's cooking up a current-gen installment in their decade-old action franchise.

As much i love Syphon filter games on ps1, it wasn't near as popular as MGS1 seriously. The series started to fall when the title came on ps2. Even Splinter Cell was compare with MGS series and SC series can never touch the greatness of MGS.

Even though syphon filter is a good franchise, since the days of PSone it has been one of the best....but mgs's storyline is so intesnse and deep that it easily overhauls this game...

Comparing titles like these with each other does not compute to me atleast.....
