Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s new challenger is the Hero of Dragon Quest

He’s multiple heroes in one!

The next character coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the hero of Square Enix’sDragon Quest series. Known simply as The Hero, the character will actually be multiple heroes in one, similar to how Bowser Jr. and the Koopa Kids are represented in Ultimate.
The Hero of Dragon Quest can take the form of the protagonist from at least four games in the franchise: Dragon Quest 3: The Seeds of Salvation (aka Dragon Warrior 3 for NES),Dragon Quest 4: Chapters of the Chosen (aka Dragon Warrior 4 for NES), Dragon Quest 7: Journey of the Cursed King (PlayStation 2), and Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age(which is coming to Nintendo Switch later this year).
Dragon Quest’s Hero has been rumored as the next DLC character for Super Smash Bros.Ultimate for months, after he was uncovered in a data mine of files from the Nintendo Switch game.
The Hero of Dragon Quest is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate sometime this summer. He’ll be be available to purchase individually, but he’ll also come as part of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighter Pass. The pass comes with five different bundles, each including a fighter, stage, and music. The entire pass will cost $24.99.

[h=1]Jigglypuff’s ledge-grab defense prompts new Smash tournament rule[/h]

‘Ledge-grab limit’ punishes more than a single fighter, say some players

Super Smash Con, the world’s largest Smash Bros. tournament, has adopted rules against “ledge-camping” because one fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate— namely, Jigglypuff — is so effective with the tactic that top notch fighters are breaking the game.
First, for those not versed, ledge camping is a defensive move where a player grabs the ledge of the main stage and waits there, hoping to bait an impatient opponent into making an error.
Jigglypuff forces the issue because the fighter’s floaty movement lends itself to defensive play. That’s brought the fairness of ledge-camping to light, especially as this will be the first Super Smash Con since Smash Bros. Ultimate’s launch in December. Jigglypuff has been in all five Smash Bros. games to date (and Ultimate comprises every fighter who ever made a series appearance) but only now has its proficiency at ledge-camping become a serious issue.
On Monday, Super Smash Con’s tournament director said the event would limit the number of ledge grabs a player — using any fighter — may perform in a match.

Keep in mind that there’s no tournament official or player tasked with keeping a running count — one is only taken if a match runs to full time and then if one team or player asks to view the results screen, where the official tally of ledge grabs is kept. That’s how both players (or one player from each team) can wind up with greater than 60 ledge grabs without one forfeiting first.
Jason “Mew2King” Zimmerman, a multiple Brawl and Melee champion who took second inMelee singles at last year’s Smash Con, disagreed with the sweeping nature of the ledge grab limit.
“[Jigglyp]uff builds ledge grabs much slower than other chars, and also more safely (and with more mixups, and she has other ways to stall),” he tweeted. The rule “hurts other characters such as yoshi marth sheik much more than it does puff,” Zimmerman said.
Zimmerman added that players who are trailing, but believe an opponent may have gone over 60 ledge grabs, could themselves stall out the match to a timeout and see if they could win by forfeit.
Another player, MojoMonkey, argued that the rule “hurts Yoshi more than it hurts Puff.” In a disagreement that followed, he said Jigglypuff’s “planking” is more egregious, because it still has counterattacks available, whereas a Yoshi that is ledge-grabbing and chucking eggs at an opponent can be eliminated when being hit.
“It’s also worth noting that it’s very rare to see timeouts that don’t involve a Puff,” MojoMonkey added.
Super Smash Con 2019 is in a little more than two weeks — Thursday, Aug. 8 to Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019, at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, Virginia. Standard registration for the event closes today.

[h=1]Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s new Dragon Quest fighter arrives Tuesday[/h]

Game director Masahiro Sakurai gives a breakdown of Dragon Quest’s Hero

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s next playable fighter, the Hero from Dragon Quest, is coming to the Nintendo Switch fighting game Tuesday, July 30. In a new video, Super Smash Bros. series director Masahiro Sakurai offered an extended look at Hero, the rest of his associated downloadable content, and a preview of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s 4.0 update.
The Hero of Dragon Quest can take the form of the protagonist from four games in the franchise: Dragon Quest 3: The Seeds of Salvation (aka Dragon Warrior 3 for NES), Dragon Quest 4: Chapters of the Chosen (aka Dragon Warrior 4 for NES), Dragon Quest 7: Journey of the Cursed King (PlayStation 2), and Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age(which is coming to Nintendo Switch on Sept. 27). Players will be able to use Dragon Quest spells like Zap, Frizz, and Woosh, pitting four Dragon Quest heroes against each other for the first time.
In addition to Hero, Tuesday’s DLC also includes a new Dragon Quest-inspired stage, Yggdrasil’s Altar, and eight orchestrated music tracks from classic Dragon Quest titles. There are also new Mii Fighter costumes inspired by Dragon Quest, including an Erdrick’s Armor costume and a Slime hat.
Version 4.0 of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate also launches Tuesday. The update includes a new “very easy” difficulty setting for Adventure mode, an online tourney mode, and the option to predict the winner of a match in Spectator mode. Final Smash meters also drain and expire now.
The Hero from Dragon Quest will be available to purchase individually for $5.99, but he’s also included as part of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighter Pass. The pass comes with five different bundles, each including a fighter, stage, and music. The entire pass will cost $24.99. Hero is the second DLC character for Ultimate, following Joker from Persona 5. The next fighter coming to Smash Bros. is Banjo-Kazooie, due sometime in the fall.

[h=1]Terry Bogard is now available in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and he’s dangerous when he’s about to lose[/h]

The newest challenger is here

The newest DLC fighter has arrived in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Terry Bogard, of SNK fame, has been added to the game in patch 6.0.
The game’s director Masahiro Sakurai showed some of Terry’s abilities and moves, and gave fans a look at the new King of Fighters stage, during Nintendo’s 45 minute Smash Bros. livestream on Wednesday morning.

Terry has a few unique moves, but his biggest strength becomes available once his damage goes above 100 percent. At that point, Terry can use his Super Special Moves. These abilities are high-risk, high-reward attacks that might allow you to turn the momentum of a match around, even if things look hopeless.
Patch 6.0 also includes the new King of Fighters stage as well as several new Mii costumes. On the online side of things, Nintendo has added the ability for hosts to change the rules without shutting down their arena. There’s also now an option to add Random Battlefield and Omega Form maps in the stage settings.
While the patch is free to all Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players, Terry and the new King of Fighters stage must be purchased for $4.99 in Challenger Pack 4, or as part of the Fighters pass for $24.99.

[h=1]New Smash Bros. character coming in Nintendo Direct this week[/h]

The party grows bigger

Image

The world’s biggest crossover event will soon get a little bigger, according to Nintendo. Smash Bros. game director Masahiro Sakurai will hold a livestream on Jan. 16 at 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m ET that will last 35 minutes. The famed workaholic is scheduled to reveal a new DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Bets on who it might be? I’m still holding out for Goku. But maybe we’ll finally get Waluigi?
Previously, Nintendo promised the release of five DLC characters, which included additions such as Joker from Persona 5, and Banjo-Kazooie. Late last year, however, the Japanese developer stated that it was working on even more additions to the party fighting game.
“To me, it feels like the finish line is sliding farther away,” Sakurai said. “You may wonder, ‘How much longer can he be involved with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?’ But I’m also excited. Adding more characters into the game means more game worlds will be added to the series, and ultimately, that means there will be an even greater opportunity to delight the fans.”
He went on to say that this is likely to be the largest Smash Bros. roster in the history of the franchise, and that future games will probably not feature quite so many characters. Better get while the gettin’s good.

[h=1]Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will get six more fighters as DLC[/h]

Fighters Pass Vol. 2 is now in development

Image

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s roster will continue to grow through 2021. Game director Masahiro Sakurai confirmed that a second batch of add-on fighters will be released for the Nintendo Switch game, six in total, in the Fighters Pass Vol. 2.
That means Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s second Fighters Pass will include one more fighter than the first pass. All six will be released for Ultimate by by Dec. 31, 2021, Sakurai said.
While the contents of Challenger Packs 6-11 are still secret — each pack will contain a new fighter, a new stage and new music — all six fighters have already been decided upon. Sakurai explained that he won’t be taking any suggestions or questions at this time.
Earlier today, Sakurai confirmed the fifth and final fighter coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as part of the first Fighters Pass: Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Byleth will be released on Jan. 28, the same day that pre-orders for the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 go live on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

[h=1]Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s next fighter comes from Arms[/h]

Fighting game gets a free 11-day trial for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, too

Arms, the 2017 fighting game for Nintendo Switch, loans one of its combatants to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s Fighters Pass Vol. 2 lineup. The fighter will be available sometime in June, Nintendo said today.
It wasn’t clear, from this morning’s flash Nintendo Direct Mini, exactly which fighter (or fighters) will be part of the game. The promo showed a lineup of 15 different fighters and told fans to stay tuned for a June announcement.

In the meantime, Arms is free to all Nintendo Switch Online subscribers for the next two weeks. Nintendo said the full game is available to download and play. The trial starts at 9 a.m. PDT today and goes until 11:59 p.m. PDT on April 6.
The first Fighters Pass delivered five packs of downloadable content from December 2018 to February, and cost $24.99. The second volume was announced back in January, when Nintendo said it would contain six fighters, six stages, and music associated with the new fighters.

[h=1]Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s new fighter revealed June 22[/h]

Arms character will get a deep dive from Masahiro Sakurai

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game director Masahiro Sakurai will reveal details about the Nintendo Switch fighting game’s next character on Monday, June 22, Nintendo announced on Twitter on Friday. Sakurai previously announced that the next DLC fighter coming toUltimate would be from Arms, the 2017 fighting game for Switch.
Sakurai’s presentation on the Arms fighter will offer an “in-depth look” at the character in a “roughly 35-minute video.” The livestream will air on YouTube on June 22 at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT.
Nintendo also confirmed that the Arms character will be the only new fighter revealed during the stream, a sign that fans should temper expectations for a tease.
The unnamed Arms fighter is the first of six additional characters coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as part of the Fighters Pass Vol. 2. All six characters will be released forUltimate by Dec. 31, 2021, Sakurai said during a Nintendo Direct Mini presentation in January. The first Fighters Pass added Joker from Persona 5, Hero from the Dragon Quest series, Banjo and Kazooie, Terry from Fatal Fury/The King of Fighters, and Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses to Ultimate as paid content.
The Arms roster consists of 15 playable characters. While Spring Man and Ribbon Girl were often presented as the faces of Arms, characters such as Ninjara, Twintelle, Min Min, and Helix have proven popular with fans.

[h=1]Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s next fighter is Min Min from Arms[/h]

The ramen-loving Arms fighter joins the roster

The next fighter coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is Min Min from Arms, Nintendo’s 2017 fighting game for Nintendo Switch. Smash Bros. game director Masahiro Sakurai announced the new fighter during a livestream on Monday.
Min Min, like the rest of the Arms cast, has springy, extendable limbs. She attacks independently with each stretchy arm, and can equip each of her arms with one of three weapons — Megawatt, Ramram, and Dragon — giving her a variety of attacks that can be swapped on the fly.
A new stage, Spring Stadium, is also coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Eighteen music tracks from Arms are also coming alongside Min Min. She’ll be released June 29, and her DLC bundle costs $5.99.
In the world of Arms, Min Min is an 18-year-old who works at the Mintendo Noodle House. Sakurai said that Min Min was chosen as the next Smash Bros. fighter at the request of Armsproducer Kosuke Yabuki. Another Arms character, Spring Man, already appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an Assist Trophy fighter. Additional Arms fighters appear as part of Min Min’s Final Smash move, and Ninjara will be available as a Mii Fighter costume.
Min Min from Arms is the first of six additional characters coming to Super Smash Bros.Ultimate as part of the Fighters Pass Vol. 2. All six characters — plus new stages and music — will be released for Ultimate by Dec. 31, 2021, Sakurai announced during a Nintendo Direct Mini presentation in January. The first Fighters Pass added Joker from Persona 5, Hero from the Dragon Quest series, Banjo and Kazooie, Terry from Fatal Fury/The King of Fighters, and Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses to Ultimate as paid content.

[h=2]Fallout’s Vault Boy joins Super Smash Bros. as a Mii Fighter[/h][h=1]

I don’t want to set the stage on fire
[/h]

Fallout’s Vault Boy is coming to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a Gunner-type Mii Fighter. Smash is all about bringing the most iconic characters in gaming together, and then making them fight each other in a death match. We’ve had some unexpected additions so far, like Persona 5’s Joker or even Sans from Undertale, but this new Mii Fighter skin is still a surprise.
Vault Boy is the mascot of the Fallout franchise. He serves as part of the Vault-Tec propaganda efforts, and he is meant to appeal to the American populace in 2077. Players can spot him on a ton of advertising or informational pamphlets around the world in various Fallout games. He is also used as an illustration alongside each SPECIAL perk, so players get an idea of what that upgrade might entail.
This colorful, retro, cartoon-y boy fits right in with the Smash roster, but it’s still a little shocking to see him show up. Currently, the only game from the Fallout franchise on Nintendo Switch is Fallout Shelter, which is a spinoff simulation title where players run their very own Vault.
Players will be able to purchase Vault Boy on June 29, He’s not the only new addition to the game; today, we learned Min Min from Arms will be the next DLC character, along with the stage Spring Stadium.

Smash Bros. gets a ‘small battlefield’ and the internet is delighted

What is this, a stage for ants?

Surprise! A new update dropped for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which reportedly improves some part of the online experience along with some tweaks to Elite Smash. But the biggest addition has to be yet another version of Battlefield, the hardcore stage anchored by a few platforms.

What’s the difference? Well, this one is smol. Also, Nintendo saw fit to remove the top platform, which gives players less mobility overall. This addition swings in the opposite direction of Nintendo’s last Battlefield remix, which made the iconic Smash Bros. stage big.

Small Battlefield is nonetheless a somewhat bizarre addition that sounds like a joke, yet is totally real — which might explain why players are lovingly making fun of it on social media, where the update briefly trended. There are some concerns over whether or not some characters can kill too easily on that stage, but mostly, folks seem delighted by Small Battlefield’s existence.

Looking forward to trying out Pyra/Mythra.

Got Fighter pass 2 after Sephirorth was revealed as the 3rd character. Him and Min Min from ARMS are both great. Steve from Minecraft? Not so much. Please don't put Microsoft IPs in Smash, Nintendo (unless if it's Ori).
