Im facing this annoying and a weird FPS stuttering issue in my games.... like my games would play smoothly at like 60 FPS or so and then randomly would freeze sometimes and would stutter....the freeze lasts around somewhere between 1 sec till 7 secs...I thought it might be a problem with the card heating up but i installed GPU temp and kept an eye on the gpu while running RE7 the temp was fine no issue there..

The following are my specs:
i3 2100 3.10Ghz
4 Gb ram
Geforce Gtx 580

  • Outlast on High settings no stutters..
  • Resident Evil on medium - lowish settings with a few stutters
  • Dark Souls 3 was unplayable cause it was causing way too many stutters even though i was getting like 60 - 40 FPS in every area but after i reached Highwall of Lotheric it got worse and wouldnt stop stuttering 30 mins into the area.....the game ran smoothly even if i ran it on high settings , i thought if i had everything lowered out, windowed the game and lowered the resolution as well it might solve the issue but it didnt.
  • Little Nightmares on Max settings no issues.
  • Nier Automata its playable but it stutters as well...same issue as previous.. it runs smoothly on high - mediumish settings but stutters. I thought maybe lowering the graphics might help but it didnt.

your pc harware is outdated, for modern games you must need 8gb ram.

try installing old nvidia drivers. stutter issues happens bcoz of bottlenecking, low ram, bad drivers or a bad hard drive.

8gb ram is good(if possible do upgrade) but i dont think its the ram in your case.. gtx 580 has 1.5gb vram right? if you are playing at 1080p thats not enough.. Also the bottleneck in your case is most likely the gpu.. but the processor itself isn't that much strong to play open world games like dark souls 3.. hell my i5 4570 stutters in Witcher 3 too even though i have gtx 1070.. just because of cpu bottlenecking gpu.
So my advice is to get either rx 460, gtx 1050ti.. hell even gtx 960 and u will see massive improvement in FPS and also fix the stutter issue.

I would suggest you monitor your RAM and VRAM usage during games.

Not long ago i had the experience of running games with 4 gb ram and i must say it wasn't pleasant at all. I had 2 sticks of 4 gb and one suddenly died so had to play games with only 4gb ram for a couple of days and the difference between the two was a lot. I would suggest you upgrade the ram to 8 gb even if it isn't causing the issue as it would help a lot.

With that being said your processor isn't helping your case either.

A slow HDD and less RAM can cause such stutters. Especially the games with bigger maps. Like i have 8GB RAM and just cause 3 gives me such stutters too.

I think it is your RAM that causing the stuttering problem, sudden FPS drops, and Freezings. Upgrade to 8GB and it'll probably make the difference. Also, do make sure you've a quality PSU for that power hungry GTX 580. Sometimes weak psu also produce such effects. However, you issue leaning more towards low RAM.

4gb RAM is EXTREMELY low if you are using newer OS, i.e. You could get away with 4gb ram running on XP but i am amazed you can even play games with that RAM in the first place.
Cold booted and fully loaded my Windows 10 uses around 5 GB of RAM (yeah i do have lots of apps installed but still).
8gb should be absolute minimum according to current standard no matter how old the game you are playing, just because windows and few applications in the background can eat upwards of 3gb RAM very easily.
