Sony PlayStation 5 : Play Has No Limits

PS5 Release Date, PS5 Games, PS5 Power vs Xbox One X, PS5 Price Speculation - All the PS5 Info lets discuss

Here are all the rumors and speculation surrounding the PS5, including a potential PS5 release date, power, and launch games of Sony's inevitable PS5. Is the PS5 releasing in 2019?

What we Want From the PS5 Speculation aside, what would we ideally want from the PS5? Backwards compatibility for PS4 games would be brilliant, simply because you'd be able to carry over classics like the Shadow of the Colossus remake to the next console generation. We've seen how well Microsoft is handling backwards compatibility with its Xbox One consoles (including getting amazing results updating Xbox 360 games to run in 4K on Xbox One X), and something similar on PS5 would be great.

In terms of pure power, the PlayStation 5 has to significantly exceed the power of the Xbox One X. This means featuring more games running in 4K at 60FPS. If the PS5 can deliver about 10 TF of power we'd be happy, as this would allow devs to create games that look a generation ahead of what we've got now.

But what would the dream launch lineup be for the PS5? Death Stranding and The Last of Us: Part 2 are hugely anticipated blockbuster games, with the former especially looking to push the performance of whatever system it's on to the very limit. We've also mentioned Ghost of Tsushima and a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, and the latter would be the perfect way to kick off a new console cycle from Sony.

[h=1]PlayStation 5 will consume less power in effort to combat climate change[/h]

Sony joins forces with other game companies as part of the Playing for the Planet Alliance

The video game industry is banding together to combat climate change, with Sony Interactive Entertainment committing to lowering the power consumption of its next-generation PlayStation — at least while it’s in suspend mode — in an effort save more electricity.
In a statement from Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan on the PlayStation Blog, the company announced that the “next generation PlayStation console will include the possibility to suspend gameplay with much lower power consumption than PS4 (which we estimate can be achieved at around 0.5 W). If just one million users enable this feature, it would save equivalent to the average electricity use of 1,000 US homes.”
While it remains to be seen how much electricity the successor to the PlayStation 4 — which will probably be called the PlayStation 5, if we’re wildly speculating — will consume during normal play, a next-gen console that draws less power much of the time sounds like good news.
But Sony’s not the only game company that has signed on to the Playing for the Planet Alliance, a partnership through which corporations have made commitments to reduce carbon emissions, reduce waste, and otherwise reduce their impact on the planet. Microsoft has also committed to making “825,000 Xbox consoles carbon neutral,” while cutting emissions as part of its manufacturing and delivery processes.
Other companies participating in the Playing for the Planet Alliance include Ubisoft, Supercell, Google Stadia, Green Man Gaming, Twitch, and Niantic. More details on those efforts are at the alliance’s official website.

I thought the recent State of Play would have at least some mention of Ghost of Tsushima but I am getting more and more wary that its going to end up a PS5 title.

An Update on Next-Gen: PlayStation 5 Launches Holiday 2020

Since we originally unveiled our next-generation console in April, we know that there’s been a lot of excitement and interest in hearing more about what the future of games will bring. Today I’m proud to share that our next-generation console will be called PlayStation 5, and we’ll be launching in time for Holiday 2020.

These updates may not be a huge surprise, but we wanted to confirm them for our PlayStation fans, as we start to reveal additional details about our vision for the next generation. WIRED magazine covered these updates and more in a story that posted this morning.

The “more” refers to something I’m quite excited about – a preview of the new controller that will ship with PlayStation 5. One of our goals with the next generation is to deepen the feeling of immersion when you play games, and we had the opportunity with our new controller to reimagine how the sense of touch can add to that immersion.

To that end, there are two key innovations with the PlayStation 5’s new controller. First, we’re adopting haptic feedback to replace the “rumble” technology found in controllers since the 5th generation of consoles. With haptics, you truly feel a broader range of feedback, so crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field. You can even get a sense for a variety of textures when running through fields of grass or plodding through mud.

The second innovation is something we call adaptive triggers, which have been incorporated into the trigger buttons (L2/R2). Developers can program the resistance of the triggers so that you feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain. In combination with the haptics, this can produce a powerful experience that better simulates various actions. Game creators have started to receive early versions of the new controller, and we can’t wait to see where their imagination goes with these new features at their disposal.

While there’s much more to share about PlayStation 5 in the year ahead, we have plenty of blockbuster experiences coming your way on PS4, including Death Stranding, The Last of Us Part II, and Ghost of Tsushima. I’d like to thank all PlayStation fans for continuing the journey with us, as we embark on the future of games.

New details on the PS5 were revealed in an interview with Wired

Sony’s PlayStation 5, the company’s next-generation console, will be released in time for “holidays 2020,” Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan told Wired. And the name’s confirmed, too: It’s officially called the PlayStation 5.
Ryan and system architect Mark Cerny spoke to Wired about the new console in an interview published on Oct. 8. The first thing Cerny wanted to clarify about the PlayStation 5 is about ray-tracing, which gives 3D environments impressive lighting. Ray-tracing is enabled not by “a software-level fix,” Cerny said, but with “ray-tracing acceleration in the GPU hardware.”
The developer also discussed the efficiency of using a sold-state drive in the PlayStation 5, which will “save crucial space,” according to Wired. Copies of PlayStation 5’s physical games will be shipped on 100 GB optical disks “inserted into an optical drive that doubles as a 4K Blu-ray player.”

The PlayStation 5 will also allow players to customize their installation process, meaning users will be able to install “just a game’s multiplayer campaign, leaving the single-player campaign for another time,” Cerny told Wired. Another option, he suggested, is “just installing the whole thing and then deleting the single-player campaign once you’ve finished it.”
Cerny also spoke about the controller — presumably called the DualShock 5, though it doesn’t officially have a name just yet — and its “adaptive triggers” that are designed to adapt, naturally, to different weapon types, like a bow and arrow or a machine gun. Wired’s Peter Rubin played through a few short demos on the PlayStation 5 and said the controller gave games a “distinct — and surprisingly immersive — tactile experiences.”
No specific games were named for PlayStation 5’s “holidays 2020” release.
The full interview is available over on Wired. In April, Sony confirmed the first details of the PlayStation 5 in an earlier interview with the site.

This is why the Spiderman loading comparison was ultimately pointless, and minimal load times have been a thing on SSD for a quite a while now.

Speaking with PlayStation Official Magazine (Xmas 2019, issue 169), Remedy Technical Director Mika Vehkala pointed out that it might not be this straightforward if the PS5 games start using much more data.

If games would stay the same in terms of scope and visual quality it’d make loading times be almost unnoticeable and restarting a level could be almost instant [in PS5 games].

However, since more data can be now used there can also be cases where production might be cheaper and faster when not optimising content, which will lead into having to load much more data, leading back into a situation where you have about the same loading times as today.
But but but I was told next-gen assets won't become a hurdle

The dream for a 60fps norm on consoles continues :hah:

It is almost the same as with CPU and GPU enhancements. You could do things faster or you could add more content and run things the same 30fps as before; often times it is the latter.

His colleague Thomas Puha, Head of Communications at Remedy, added that a system's power doesn't really have anything to do with frame rate, in fact.

We game developers can make 60fps games even on PlayStation 1! It’s always about compromise: are you focussing on visuals, physics, AI, and such things or purely framerate? The new PS5 hardware will be powerful, yes, but also expectations are that graphics will be even more detailed, more destruction, etc and it’s always a compromise as to where we focus.
https://wccftech.com/ps5-ssd-may-no...loading-times-says-remedy-technical-director/

Save PS5, Wajhi! Make Remedy prioritize 60fps.

Maybe read carefully what the actual OPM quote is saying instead of focusing on the headline of a click-bait site trying to generate some quick hits.

Faster productions that don't optimize content will result in such games having to load more data.

Why are you trying to spin it like optimization is only applicable on console games :laugh1: Taking a quote and using it out of context is bad mmkay.

The no load times and instant access thing has been something in the radar as early as this week.

https://www.psu.com/news/sony-pushing-no-load-times-play-right-away-as-major-ps5-selling-points/
I never said that that its only for consoles, but people were under the impression that next gen assets aint no thang cuz SSD. taking a quote and using it out of context is bad mmkay?

Yes, so stop doing it mmkay :laugh1:

As far as we know as of Nov 2019. Sony's current pitch for PS5 is "play right away, download just what you need, no load times".

And it will be a hurdle hence the need to optimise.
Devs are well accustomed to optimization of data that needs to be loaded into the memory. It's only a hurdle if they suddenly decide to be lazy or opt for faster production as the quote implies. If delivering a better product is a priority for them, this won't be the case.

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.
