Sony PlayStation 5 : The Next Gen Begins

PS5 Release Date, PS5 Games, PS5 Power vs Xbox One X, PS5 Price Speculation - All the PS5 Info lets discuss

Here are all the rumors and speculation surrounding the PS5, including a potential PS5 release date, power, and launch games of Sony's inevitable PS5. Is the PS5 releasing in 2019?

What we Want From the PS5 Speculation aside, what would we ideally want from the PS5? Backwards compatibility for PS4 games would be brilliant, simply because you'd be able to carry over classics like the Shadow of the Colossus remake to the next console generation. We've seen how well Microsoft is handling backwards compatibility with its Xbox One consoles (including getting amazing results updating Xbox 360 games to run in 4K on Xbox One X), and something similar on PS5 would be great.

In terms of pure power, the PlayStation 5 has to significantly exceed the power of the Xbox One X. This means featuring more games running in 4K at 60FPS. If the PS5 can deliver about 10 TF of power we'd be happy, as this would allow devs to create games that look a generation ahead of what we've got now.

But what would the dream launch lineup be for the PS5? Death Stranding and The Last of Us: Part 2 are hugely anticipated blockbuster games, with the former especially looking to push the performance of whatever system it's on to the very limit. We've also mentioned Ghost of Tsushima and a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, and the latter would be the perfect way to kick off a new console cycle from Sony.

As Shawn Layden wisely said, making money isn't always the point.
Weird that this is important now when you're always concerned about MS's profits.

By far, the biggest source of revenue comes from those who spend big on their platform.
And the people who will stop spending big on the platform because an IP is now available somewhere else are few and far between.

It hurt Xbox. From the Xbox 360 to today, the downfall is self-evident.

How many exactly, I don't know. But this segment owns far far more games than the average attach rate of 11. The people from this segment that I've spoken to are now more interested in Nintendo's ecosystem. They aren't abandoning PlayStation outright, though.

Because the weaker and more expensive hardware (XB1) obviously had nothing to do with anything. But let's use anecdotal evidence and fit them into your own narrative.

Dropping sweeping statements based on "people I've spoken to" 🤣👌

I will add, dont know who I am supporting here.
one of the big reasons why I have a PS5 is timely Sony exclusives.
If Sony's first party titles were coming to PC within ~ a couple of months of their launch,I wouldnt buy a console.
I dont really mind or care much if Sony titles come to PC at some point, good for the developers + platforms getting their investment back..which hopefully fuel them into making better and more games in the future..and maybe for platform holders investing back more into creating new jobs and expanding studios

The weaker hardware in 2013 i.e. Xbox One, quickly ended up having price parity with the stronger hardware i.e. PS4. The weaker hardware in 2017 i.e. PS4 Pro, outsold the stronger hardware i.e. Xbox One X. The weaker hardware today i.e. PS5, is outselling the stronger hardware i.e. the Series X 🤷‍♂️

Sweeping statements, eh? I guess we'll see lol. The turning point for most would be a PS5 game releasing on PC during its lifetime.

MS games were amongst the best selling games on Steam last year based on revenue and despite being on Game Pass. Obviously they're selling well. Not sure why everything has to be an either/or situation with you 😂
HZD and Days Gone won't be charting in NPD either. Doesn't mean they're not selling well enough for Sony to release more games. ROI is a better metric in these cases. 🤷‍♂️

A PlayStation game was #2 on Xbox last month on NPD charts based on revenue despite being on Game Pass. Imagine the ROI in this case. Look at all that money Sony is leaving on the table by not porting Horizon, Days Gone, and Uncharted 4 to Xbox 🤷‍♂️

Forza Horizon 4 in Top 10 despite being on Steam and Game Pass.

So much for the MS releasing games on PC hurting them in the long run :ROFLMAO:

But if Sony putting a game on Xbox and even Game Pass isn't hurting sales on PlayStation, why not put more games from the 1st party catalog on Xbox (and even Game Pass)? 🤷‍♂️

This includes digital sales on the Xbox app on PC. It's effectively 2 platforms lol. Sales on Steam weren't enough to bring it into the multiplat top 20 charts, however 🤷‍♂️

So people buying on the Xbox app, despite the game being on Game Pass and Steam and Xbox consoles is enough to push the game into the Top 10? Not a good look for the "long run" argument :ROFLMAO:

Being at #9 with sales across Xbox consoles and Xbox app on PC isn't exactly the equivalent of lighting the charts on fire
🤣

Notice how the MK11/Injustice 2 bundle jumped into the Xbox top 10 from 41 last month. These ups and downs are likely happening due to sales. Despite being on Game Pass, someone may want to get the game on discount to continue playing it after the subscription lapses 🤷‍♂️

Like, what are we really looking at right now? Astro’s Playroom is a tech demo. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is also on PS4. Demon’s Souls is a solid remaster, but hardly earthshaking. Returnal seems neat, but it’s the kind of game I could play now or years from now; I’m not stressed about it. The games I’m most interested in are around the corner, but even they’re not urgent must-plays in my book. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart looks very good, but it’s part of a series whose heyday was three console generations ago. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade means more Final Fantasy VII Remake—which I am, admittedly, desperate for—but it’s still ultimately DLC for a game I already finished on the PS4.
For now, those are the big ones. Horizon Forbidden West seems like it might come out this year, but it’s also going to be on PS4. God of War Ragnarok looks to be the PS5’s first truly heavy hitter, but for now it’s only got a vague 2021 release date....

*insert Maslow's hierarchy of needs meme" 😄

Anyway, each of these games coming to PC is being given away for free in some capacity on PlayStation. Horizon Zero Dawn complete edition was given as part of the 'Stay at home' program, Days Gone and Uncharted 4 have been available as part of the PS Plus game collection on PS5 since launch. It's obvious that Sony no longer sees any sales potential on PlayStation for these games.

Other first-party games on the PS Plus game collection include GoW, TLOU Remastered, Ratchet & Clank remake, inFAMOUS: SS, Bloodborne, The Last Guardian, and Until Dawn. The latter 3 games aren't developed by Sony owned studios, and porting them would require their support, even if another studio handles it. Based on this, after Uncharted 4, the next PS exclusive to go multiplat is either GoW, Ratchet & Clank remake, or inFAMOUS: SS. TLOU is getting a proper remake, so perhaps they won't be as interested in porting the remaster.

Spider-man (remastered for PS5), Ghost of Tsushima, and TLOU Part II are still selling on PlayStation. Dreams is an unusual case, as it's more of an engine and less of a game. It's not selling well on PlayStation and seems like it's on the verge of becoming a PS Plus title.

Not sure about the soundness of the bargaining/acceptance stage the Tiger is stuck between, but definitely feels he had a lot to get off his chest for some time now :ROFLMAO:

I mean, "no longer seeing sales potential" doesn't even make sense. The PS+ collection is only a thing for PS5 owners, not PS4. Its a promotional offer to get new PS5 customers to sign up for Plus. Doesn't mean every PS5 owner gets the collection with their console for free. Even if they did that, the collection wouldn't be free for current PS4 owners (let alone the fact that you have to have a PS+ sub in the first place).

Even in the case of "stay at home" program, such limited time freebies doesn't mean the sales potential ends. Giving away Ratchet was also a way to promote its sequel. Same goes for HZD and promoting its sequel. The games are not free anymore.
