Sony PlayStation 5 : Play Has No Limits

PS5 Release Date, PS5 Games, PS5 Power vs Xbox One X, PS5 Price Speculation - All the PS5 Info lets discuss

Here are all the rumors and speculation surrounding the PS5, including a potential PS5 release date, power, and launch games of Sony's inevitable PS5. Is the PS5 releasing in 2019?

What we Want From the PS5 Speculation aside, what would we ideally want from the PS5? Backwards compatibility for PS4 games would be brilliant, simply because you'd be able to carry over classics like the Shadow of the Colossus remake to the next console generation. We've seen how well Microsoft is handling backwards compatibility with its Xbox One consoles (including getting amazing results updating Xbox 360 games to run in 4K on Xbox One X), and something similar on PS5 would be great.

In terms of pure power, the PlayStation 5 has to significantly exceed the power of the Xbox One X. This means featuring more games running in 4K at 60FPS. If the PS5 can deliver about 10 TF of power we'd be happy, as this would allow devs to create games that look a generation ahead of what we've got now.

But what would the dream launch lineup be for the PS5? Death Stranding and The Last of Us: Part 2 are hugely anticipated blockbuster games, with the former especially looking to push the performance of whatever system it's on to the very limit. We've also mentioned Ghost of Tsushima and a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, and the latter would be the perfect way to kick off a new console cycle from Sony.

LMAO, no it wasn't.
Oh yeah? Then why'd they suddenly announce compatibility for the entire Steam library along with the Steam Deck's announcement? 🤣

Doesn't make Steam Deck a console. It does make it a portable PC though 🤷‍♂️
They call it a portable PC, but, for all intents and purposes, it's essentially a portable console that runs your Steam library. Based on your logic, the Series X is also a PC because it can boot into Windows in dev mode lol. Proton's UI is designed to work with a controller, and is available the instant you power on the Steam Deck. Convenience and comfort is key to the experience. It's all very console-like.

But you can pair any controller you want with it. Including your Doo-al Sense. Something not possible on any other console, because its a PC 🤣
I'm using a DualSense on the Switch via a 3rd party usb device, and it's literally plug and play 🤣

LMAO at suddenly. I don't even know what that means. Like "suddenly" a new hardware gets announced? What? :ROFLMAO:

Consoles are closed ecosystems. Steam Deck, even in its default OS mode, is not.

Please show us what kind of Windows it runs and if its the same as people are using it on a desktop/laptops these days. Can I do whatever on it that is possible on a regular Windows OS? If it offers that flexibility, then yeah, its also a PC 🤷‍♂️

Uhhh, Proton is the compatibility layer first of all. Coming to the UI, it is an evolution of the Steam Big Picture mode and the Steam Deck UI will be available on desktop clients as well. 🤷‍♂️

Announcements are sudden, the work behind them is not. It's obvious that the Steam Deck was the catalyst behind Proton's development after Steam Machines failed 🤷‍♂️

Consoles are closed ecosystems. Steam Deck, even in its default OS mode, is not.
The point is that the Steam Deck can emulate that closed experience (minus thwarting online cheaters lol).

While speaking on Monday to students at Auckland, New Zealand's Sancta Maria College (the rough equivalent of a Catholic high school in the US), Newell was asked, "Will Steam be porting any games on consoles, or will it just stay on PC?" The answer, as recorded by Reddit user Odysseic, was a vague gesture at unspecified plans. "You will get a better idea of that by the end of this year... and it won't be the answer you expect," Newell said. "You'll say, 'Ah-ha! Now I get what he was talking about.'"

Seems pretty clear to me that Goldenhawk's lord Gaben is aiming at delivering a console-like experience 🤣

Please show us what kind of Windows it runs and if its the same as people are using it on a desktop/laptops these days. Can I do whatever on it that is possible on a regular Windows OS? If it offers that flexibility, then yeah, its also a PC 🤷‍♂️
It's not the same as the desktop Windows, obviously, but it runs unsigned apps, including your favorite emulators. Is that flexible enough for you? 🤣

Uhhh, Proton is the compatibility layer first of all. Coming to the UI, it is an evolution of the Steam Big Picture mode and the Steam Deck UI will be available on desktop clients as well. 🤷‍♂️
How does that change what I said? You don't boot into BPM mode (let alone booting with a paired wireless controller lol) the first time you power on your PC. It's not plug and play. 🤷‍♂️

Proton's development has been on-going with or without Steam machines. It would continue with or without Steam Deck as well. The difference is mobile hardware catching up and becoming capable for modern games. 🤷‍♂️

That's just the flexibility that a PC offers. 🤷‍♂️

From 'its a console' to 'its console-like'. 🤷‍♂️ :ROFLMAO:

Nah, it isn't.

You can if you install Steam OS on it. Infact, this functionality is possible on Windows as well 🤷‍♂️

It wouldn't have continued at this rate, hence the term catalyst. Mobile hardware previously not being able to run modern games wasn't holding Valve back from making significant strides in Proton's development in prior years.

Console-like was what I ultimately meant, anyway. If someone wants to use it like a PC, that's obviously possible. But Goldenhawk's lord Gaben's statement implies that it was designed to replicate the console experience.

You can if you install Steam OS on it 🤷‍♂️
Maybe if you get a pre-built PC and have the OS installed and configured to launch in BPM before you turn it on for the first time. Hopefully, your controller of choice will work fine the first time you attempt to pair it. But wait, did you remember to order a motherboard with on-board bluetooth? Ah crap, gotta get that usb dongle now, which works worse than the on-board alternative. Never mind the form factor if you ended up with a bulky ATX tower. How is it going to fit inside your TV cabinet now? 🤣

Exactly what I said lol. Proton development wasn't driven by their hardware ventures. It was a thing even before Steam Machines to improve game compatibility on Linux/Mac.

The Steam Machine was an initiative to transition PC gaming to a TV-centric environment. Steam Deck does the same for PC gaming in a portable format and this time the hardware comes directly from Valve 🤷‍♂️

There is nothing stopping any hardware manufacturer to build a portable or compact machine to use in a living room and use the latest SteamOS on it. Valve encourages it. Its the same philosophy that we saw with Steam Machines.

What about when Gaben calls it a PC? :ROFLMAO:

Also, mods (@EternalBlizzard @manigamer ), CerebralTiger is clearly itching to talk in depth about the Steam Deck lol. Kindly move these recent posts to the relevant thread.

CTRL+F "PS games will no longer be ported to PC"

No worthwhile feature detected

Exactly what I said lol.
But Valve didn't take such strides in prior years. They were quietly working on improving compatibility while also working with inferior gpu maker AMD for the Deck. Both goals were aligned 🤷‍♂️

The bolded is a huge difference in both approaches 🤷‍♂️

There have been similar devices like the Aya Neo, but none of them saw success. Steam OS compatibility wasn't in the state that it'll be when the Deck launches. Console-like features come via both hardware and software.

Whats even your point anymore? Linux compatibility has been a long time project well before they were in the market to make hardware. 🤷‍♂️

Its not the first time Valve is making hardware. Only difference is the form factor they are extended PC gaming into 🤷‍♂️

Depends on many factors such as marketing and world wide product availability among other things. You're probably not even gonna consider Steam Deck a success unless they sell 85+ million units :ROFLMAO:

Seagate Firecuda 530 read speed is up to 7.3GB/s.
PS5 SSD read speed is up to 5.5GB/s (Raw) and 8-9GB/s (compressed).
X|S SSD read speed is up to 2.4GB/s (Raw) and 4.8GB/s (compressed).

X|S expansion costing $219.99 for 1TB with 2.4GB/s speed vs Firecuda 530 1TB with 7.3GB/s (whilst PS5 using 5.5GB/s) for $254.99 or $274.99 for more than double the speed of whatever X|S is offering for $35 more for the standard version without heatsink?

Not to mention, you’ll only have to use a proprietary expansion card for X|S whereas NVMes down the line may get cheaper for the PS5.

I mean, upgrading the hard drive has been less convenient on PlayStation consoles since the PS3 lol. But it was worth it because non-proprietary > proprietary. Also, adding additional storage to PS5 isn't necessary. Many will continue using an external cold storage.

The real issue here is performance. Sony is backing out of the claim that additional storage will perform as well as the internal drive. Whether this is just to be on the safe side or whether they're basing this off of tests performed with games that take advantage of the higher I/O throughput, such as Ratchet and Returnal, remains to be seen 🤷‍♂️

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.
