Sony PlayStation 5 : Play Has No Limits

PS5 Release Date, PS5 Games, PS5 Power vs Xbox One X, PS5 Price Speculation - All the PS5 Info lets discuss

Here are all the rumors and speculation surrounding the PS5, including a potential PS5 release date, power, and launch games of Sony's inevitable PS5. Is the PS5 releasing in 2019?

What we Want From the PS5 Speculation aside, what would we ideally want from the PS5? Backwards compatibility for PS4 games would be brilliant, simply because you'd be able to carry over classics like the Shadow of the Colossus remake to the next console generation. We've seen how well Microsoft is handling backwards compatibility with its Xbox One consoles (including getting amazing results updating Xbox 360 games to run in 4K on Xbox One X), and something similar on PS5 would be great.

In terms of pure power, the PlayStation 5 has to significantly exceed the power of the Xbox One X. This means featuring more games running in 4K at 60FPS. If the PS5 can deliver about 10 TF of power we'd be happy, as this would allow devs to create games that look a generation ahead of what we've got now.

But what would the dream launch lineup be for the PS5? Death Stranding and The Last of Us: Part 2 are hugely anticipated blockbuster games, with the former especially looking to push the performance of whatever system it's on to the very limit. We've also mentioned Ghost of Tsushima and a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, and the latter would be the perfect way to kick off a new console cycle from Sony.

Don't care much about other stuff except BC, a good line of exclusives, and improvements in PS+. The first is confirmed; the second is expected as usual; the third I think is likely.

[h=1]PS5 GPU Will Use Brand New RDNA Architecture Developed by AMD[/h]

New information stemming from the recent AMD Computex event revealed that Sony's PlayStation 5 will be powered by new RDNA architecture in its GPU that is a product of the AMD Navi line. Fans who had been paying close attention to Sony's PS5 reports already knew that the console would be powered by AMD Navi GPU and the Ryzen "Zen 2" CPU, which was revealed earlier in an interview with the device's lead architect Mark Cerny.
The PS5 is certainly on the horizon, according to Sony. The company recently unveiled its plans for supporting both the PS4 and its next-gen console, suggesting that simultaneous launches on both platforms were in the company's plans for at least the first few years of the next-gen offering. Even more appealing? The fact that the PS5 will be backward compatible with PS4 games, meaning the new release won't make consumer's games libraries obsolete. It's a move that Sony has publicly acknowledged as one that it hopes will lead to more early adopters of the new console, a boon that would serve the company well as console gaming continues to operate as something of an unknown in a future that also has streaming platforms like Google Stadia.

If there's an edge for Sony and the PS5, it appears it will be in the hardware department, according to news from the AMD Computex event. The reveal that the PS5's GPU architecture will host new RDNA developments from AMD is a revelatory one, once again confirming that the device will be on the cutting edge of technology whenever it releases. AMD released the following keynotes from its presentation to break down exactly what the new RDNA architecture offers GPUs:

  • 1.5x performance-per-watt
  • 1.25 performance-per-clock improvement over previous architecture
  • New compute unit design - improved efficiency and increased IPC
  • Multi-level cache hierarchy - reduced latency, higher bandwidth, lower power
  • Streamlined graphics pipeline - optimized for performance-per-clock and high clock speeds

The PS5 will be using this technology, so consumers can expect roughly the same kind of performance upgrades. That being said, AMD has acknowledged that the Navi GPU for PS5 will be a custom variant, with the president of AMDreferring to it as a key component in Sony's "special sauce" for its next-gen console. That means there could be variations on the above technological specs, with attention being paid to specifics Sony wanted tailored for its next-gen device.
In an era where it appears gaming will continue to become even more accessible with the advent of streaming platforms, Sony appears to be doubling down on having the most technologically-appealing device possible. The PS5 sounds, by all accounts, like a top-tier gaming PC turned into a console, and in some respects, that might be the best approach Sony has available to it. Appealing to the most hardcore gamers with a platform choice that could genuinely rival—for the first time ever—the PC platform, Sony's PS5might be exactly what console gaming needs to look like next-gen.

This is interesting, PS5 4K 120Hz HDR
Do we even have any TV which can support all that data nd take full benefit of this? At 14.6 Tera flops, I even doubt that the new GPU will be even able to achieve those rates at 4K n biggest bottleneck is HDMI port. Hardly very few TVs of LG (top of the line) are equipped with HDMI 2.1 which might be able to handle that much data but what about the rest?
Next Gen Console Gaming will end up quite expensive

Pretty certain it will release next year. Since God of War release, there’s basically only two first party titles with no release date, Last of Us 2 and the samurai game they presented with the flute show, both absolutely gorgeous games that could enjoy some PS5 power and both seem pretty far from being released (which is strange for TLOU2 after all these trailers). For four or five years, we had crazy announcements, lots of new titles being teased and all, but it clearly slowed down since last year. It’s the calm before the storm.

I dont think PS5 will be more powerful. Also rumors were the next box would be 16 tera flops, but it actually is 24! How do you top that on a console level? Within a reasonable budget/price point!

I don't think any teraflop information for either PS5 or Scarlet has been mentioned/confirmed anywhere.

Uhhhh what has Ray tracing to do with CPU? Reminds me of Xboxs "highest quality pixels" or Sonys "4k resolution gaming"... *hutiyapa

Platinum boss says next-gen consoles ‘more of the same’

INABA FINDING IT “HARD TO GET EXCITED” FOR NEXT XBOX AND PLAYSTATION

Asked for his reaction to the platform holders’ plans, Inaba said: “It’s OK. And by that I mean, I’m sure that things will move faster, graphics will be better and maybe it will be easier with less wait times… that’s good for the consumer. “But it’s more of the same, quite frankly, compared to previous generations. It’s nothing that’s disruptive or super innovative, if you ask me.”

He added: “Game hardware used to be about custom chips that you couldn’t do on PCs. Now you look at it and they’re just grabbing stuff that already exists. “The Switch, for example, is a Tegra which already existed and the other consoles are using very similar chips and graphics cards to what you see on PCs, but maybe slightly updated. None of it seems unique to that hardware anymore.”

The Platinum boss said he’s more excited about the “innovation” presented by cloud platforms such as Google’s Stadia.

“It’s hard to get excited about stuff that kind of already exists, but has been re purposed to a certain degree,” he said.“That’s why for me, things like cloud platforms represent innovation and something very, very different – they’re platforms that excite me and where I feel there is a lot more innovation happening.”

[h=1]PlayStation Now Will Be Major Part of PlayStation 5 and Beyond[/h]

Sony will not be leaving behind Playstation Now as they move into the future with PlayStation 5. Playstation Now is a streaming service offered by Sony that can be used with PCs or Playstation consoles, offering a changing library of games for the price of $20 per month or $100 for the whole year. While it initially only offered PS3 titles to stream, players can now play whichever PS2 and PS4 games are added month-to-month.
Playstation Now has been criticized in the past for a couple of reasons. Some people feel that the price is too high, while others feel that the service is a weak answer to Xbox One's backward compatibility. This bad press only grew when Sony famously turned down EA's own streaming service, EA Access, back in 2014 so that they could promote Playstation Now. This gave Microsoft exclusive use of EA Access on their consoles for a few years.

EA Access is now coming to Playstation, but that doesn't mean Sony is ready to give up on Playstation Now. It sounds like Sony is getting ready to give their in-house streaming venture the marketing it never seemed to get when it came out. In fact, according to Playstation's Jim Ryan in an interview with
Financial Times (via: ComicBook), they are going to start marketing the service harder than ever. While he doesn't hint as to exactly what they're going to do (such as a price drop or service expansion), Ryan says that they're gearing up for war, saying, "We are getting more confident with the [PlayStation Now] service and we are really going to start to push it hard this year and in years to follow."

While Playstation Now still has subscribers, it has failed to hit the sought-after 1 million mark in the five years that it's been available. A few of the reasons it has managed to stay afloat are a move to PC and the inclusion of both much older and much more recent games. Still, there has been a noticeable lack of marketing for the service, as well as not many people knowing what Playstation Now even is. With increased competition from EA Access and now
Xbox's Game Pass, Sony has to remind its customers about what the service offers and why it's a good value. According to Ryan, that's exactly what they plan to do, adding:

"We obviously have seen the trend in other forms of entertainment towards the mass adoption of streaming as a means of accessing content. It would seem likely - very likely - that gaming will follow that trend."

Time will tell if Playstation Now has the legs to stand up to its competition. Streaming completely changed the worlds of movies and television, and it looks like it's on the verge of doing the same for gaming. While they remain the market leader in the console space by a hefty margin, Sony is looking to the future and does not want to miss out on the the world of streaming video games.

Sony Positions Next PlayStation for Hard-Core Gamers

Sony sees Microsoft as its main competitor in the next generation, with Google a potential threat in the mid- to long-term as internet technology advances, one company official said.Nintendo Co. isn’t perceived as a major rival, the person said, because its main users tend to be younger than PlayStation’s core demographic.

PlayStation has been one of the most successful mass-market products of the past quarter-century; the PlayStation 4 alone is expected to pass 100 million units this year. Sony’s latest thinking puts less stress on overall sales numbers and more on the most-profitable segment of the market: the devoted fans who buy big-budget titles, such as Bethesda Softworks LLC’s “Fallout” series and Take-Two Interactive Software Inc.’s “Red Dead Redemption.”

A second Sony official said the company believes people buy a videogame console to play graphics-heavy games.
Sony is concentrating its attention on large software publishers as it gets ready for the next PlayStation, according to executives at Sony and software makers. In general, publishers want their games on multiple platforms to maximize sales, while console makers look to make deals for exclusive content or an initial period of exclusive sales.

Some executives at smaller game makers say they have felt snubbed by Sony, in contrast to Nintendo. At the Tokyo Game Show in September, Nintendo is supporting events to showcase independent game developers. Sony used to do the same, but isn’t planning to this year, the first Sony official said.

Sony still welcomes games from independent studios, the first Sony official said, but the emphasis is on strengthening relationships with large publishers since resources are limited. The thinking is, the official said, that people buy a console to play high-quality games available only on that platform, not smaller games also available on smartphones.
Big budget first party games are a given, but hopefully this also means more exclusive content in 3rd party games and more 3rd party collaborations for exclusives, such as Bloodborne, Spiderman, and Death Stranding.

Sure.

All they need to do is more of the same, big budget first/second party exclusives.

It's the main reason buying an Xbox didn't even come close to my mind this generation because 99% of it's exclusives are available on PC. Hell, 360 BC was more of a selling point for me than Xbox One games for it.

I like the Sony's no bullshit approach towards exclusives. While Xbox is busy collecting smaller studios for budget indie games, Sony on the other hand focuses on the big fishes i.e Studios that primarily make big budget AAA games. Quality over quantity. Unless the next Xbox is considerably cheaper than the PS5, i fully expect Sony to win next gen again.
