Sony PlayStation 5 : Play Has No Limits

PS5 Release Date, PS5 Games, PS5 Power vs Xbox One X, PS5 Price Speculation - All the PS5 Info lets discuss

Here are all the rumors and speculation surrounding the PS5, including a potential PS5 release date, power, and launch games of Sony's inevitable PS5. Is the PS5 releasing in 2019?

What we Want From the PS5 Speculation aside, what would we ideally want from the PS5? Backwards compatibility for PS4 games would be brilliant, simply because you'd be able to carry over classics like the Shadow of the Colossus remake to the next console generation. We've seen how well Microsoft is handling backwards compatibility with its Xbox One consoles (including getting amazing results updating Xbox 360 games to run in 4K on Xbox One X), and something similar on PS5 would be great.

In terms of pure power, the PlayStation 5 has to significantly exceed the power of the Xbox One X. This means featuring more games running in 4K at 60FPS. If the PS5 can deliver about 10 TF of power we'd be happy, as this would allow devs to create games that look a generation ahead of what we've got now.

But what would the dream launch lineup be for the PS5? Death Stranding and The Last of Us: Part 2 are hugely anticipated blockbuster games, with the former especially looking to push the performance of whatever system it's on to the very limit. We've also mentioned Ghost of Tsushima and a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, and the latter would be the perfect way to kick off a new console cycle from Sony.

In just a few tweets Geoff Keighley became a better Sony spokesperson than anyone on the company's PR team, announcing that, actually, some of these fancy games we had thought were PS5 exclusives... weren't.

Remarkably, Sony pulled its trailer from the PlayStation YouTube channel, re-uploading it to remove mention of PC. This was "human error", we were told.

Last night, there was a lot of human error flying around at Sony, wasn't there?
What happened to all Sony's guff about believing in generations? It was a load of old rubbish, it seems. Whether you believe in Microsoft's philosophy of launching its games across generations (I have concerns about the Xbox One holding games back, as I know some in the development community do), at least the company was honest about it.
The suggestion at the time was that Sony's announced PS5 exclusives were just that - PS5 exclusives. Sony, we were led to believe, was taking a different approach to its rival, Microsoft, which had for months taken flak for its cross-gen strategy. Today, Ryan's quote comes across as a misleading statement designed to score a cheap PR win in the war with Microsoft.
Cheap PR win sounds about right. Sony seemed to have purposely kept the communication confusing during the event. The average gamer probably still wouldn't know Miles Morales is on PS4 until the ads bring it up near launch lol

Interesting enough official comments from Sony since yesterday talk about games like Horizon FW being built for the PS5, which would mean the PS4 ports were likely a later decision and those ports may be more like down-conversions ala Rise of Tomb Raider on the 360 was compared to the XBO version.

Ah well, in either case no one looked at those trailers and thought "yeah this looks like a PS4 game" compared to some other notable examples which shall remain nameless :p

Built from the ground up for SSD and I/O...

still functional on PS4's HDD without gameplay compromises.

ohkay. scalability ftw!

Looks like no BC for PS3/2/1 games

:(

Famitsu: We were also surprised when we heard that it will have 99% compatibility with PS4 titles. By the way, will there be compatibility with PS1, PS2, and PS3 titles?

Jim Ryan: We keep in mind the engineering specialized for the PS5, as we produced the device. In the midst of that, the PS4 already has 100 million players; we thought they ought to want to play PS4 titles on the PS5 as well indeed, so we included compatibility with the PS4. While implementing that, we also focused our efforts on taking in the high-speed SSD and the new controller DualSense at the same time. So, unfortunately, we couldn’t reach the implementation of such compatibilities.

Man, this is just a flat out lie. Jim should've spoken the truth here that the decision was made due to financial feasibility. No one would've hated him for it.

If a game needs to run decent on 8GB of RAM/VRAM and low-spec CPUs, let alone vastly inferior I/O, it's definitely holding back a machine that's capable of much more.

Picture this: a potential PS5-only Horizon Forbidden West that primarily targets 30fps and has a world sprawling with NPCs with complex AI routines, more interactive environments, more procedural animations and complex physics, robosaurs you can ride that dash or glide through densely packed environments at blazing speeds. You could make the NPC count scalable, but toning down or doing away with the rest of the stuff just makes it a different game.

But Jim's justification would be, "Hey look, higher res textures, 60fps, and ray traced reflections are only in the PS5 version". With the exception of 60fps, these are superficial gains that may please the PC audience, but it's not what I expect from a game that takes advantage of a new piece of fixed hardware.

I'd really like Jim to tell everyone why Ratchet isn't on the PS4 lol.

What a mess Sony has created. So much confusion and indecision. Aik tou they wait for MS to do everything first, uske baad bhi ye halat hai. I don't mind cross-gen or PS5-only exclusives but which game is which, what changed, how long one need not get a PS5, will the cross-gen games suffer, etc etc. What's next, are we going to get a Horizon FW PS5-only remake later in the generation because the version they are making right now may not be up to the mark?

Sony’s official PS5 specs confirm the console is an absolute unit

The biggest PlayStation ever

The PlayStation 5 will be Sony’s largest console ever, according to official system specifications released on Thursday, confirming speculation from fans that the next-gen PlayStation will be just absolutely massive.

Here are the official dimensions of the standard PlayStation 5 and the discless Digital Edition of the console, as revealed via the PlayStation Blog:

PLAYSTATION 5
  • Width: 15.35 inches (390 mm)
  • Depth: 10.23 inches (260 mm)
  • Height: 4.09 inches (104 mm)
PLAYSTATION 5 DIGITAL EDITION
  • Width: 15.35 inches (390 mm)
  • Depth: 10.23 inches (260 mm)
  • Height: 3.62 inches (92 mm)
Sony notes that those dimensions do not factor in the size of the included base, which will give the PS5 a larger footprint when standing upright.

Weighing in at 9.92 pounds (4.5 kg), the PlayStation 5 is also the second-heaviest PlayStation to date, behind the weighty launch-model PlayStation 3, which weighed 11 pounds (5 kg). The PS5 Digital Edition is a bit lighter at 8.60 pounds (3.9 kg).

Console shoppers will need to clear plenty of space on their shelves and TV stands, especially if they’re also buying an Xbox Series X this November. The higher-end next-gen Xbox measures 5.94 inches wide, 5.94 inches deep, and 11.85 inches high (15.1 cm by 15.1 cm by 30.1 cm). It’s a heavy one too: 9.81 pounds (4.45 kg).

Fortunately, for space-conscious consumers, Microsoft also has the cheaper Xbox Series S, which is almost 60% smaller than the Series X. In a vertical orientation, the Xbox Series S measures 10.8 inches (275 mm) tall, 5.9 inches (151 mm) deep, and 2.5 inches (63.5mm) wide.

So yes, the PlayStation 5 is big. Easily the biggest modern console to date. Might want to find the right spot for it before launch — if you manage to secure a pre-order, that is.

Lol sorting by sold/completed items on eBay for PS5, shows how much people have paid for.

Although not sure if actual sales or how eBay system works on such sales.

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.

After I watched it, I never felt like i watched a show. It was a friggin journey. I got way too attached to Thorfinn and seeing him grow up and find himself and get rid of all the negativity inside of him was just pure bliss.
