I have tp-link modem/router TD-W9970 https://www.tp-link.com/au/home-networking/dsl-modem-router/td-w9970/ it can use VDSL2 easily. Thing is I have 6 mpbs (lowest I can get to have as backup connection)connection from PTCL and it is setup using the ADSL1/2 settings.

I had new wires installed in my home from PTCL and came to know my area is being revamped, that was several months ago. I didn't tested it since I have stormfiber as well so only starting to using the PTCL again as dual setup due to double nat etc. I tested that when I set the modulation to VDSL2 in the modem, I can connect to VDSL2 based connection from PTCL I get full stable line parameters even beyond 50 mpbs from download and nearly 50 mpbs for upload. Only thing missing for me is what WAN settings to use to allow it to use VDSL2 for internet connection.

I know login password for ADSL1/2 connection, is it enough for VDSL2? What other settings I am missing from PTCL for using VDSL2 properly? I did try PPPOE but didn't worked so far.

You'll need a VLAN ID as well.

You might be able to get it from 1218, but I'd recommend just asking the exchange staff.

Unable to get VLAN ID from 1218, saying tp link modem will not work with vdsl. Saying my modem is incompatible, this is when I demanded that they tell me VLAN ID. A bunch of people only for call centre who have no idea about this side of the technical work. This reminds me about vpi/vci settings drama they kept up with me telling me that they don't have those settings all those years ago in 2011. Then blaming me for using tp link modem then as well.

Clearly 1218 don't have VLAN ID nor are they willing to contact anyone to get it for me.

My exchange is garden town, lahore, anyone have number for them to get my VDSL VLAN ID?

Exchange staff almost never answer the phone, and will probably not give you the required details over the phone anyway.

You'll have to visit them in person to get it.

I have the PTCL modem from 2010, it doesn't even have wireless. I only ever upgraded my connection to 8 mpbs and in 2018 into 6 mpbs connection for it to be backup. How to make PTCL give me new modem which have VDSL? Atleast I know that my line is VDSL enabled and have 50 mpbs upload and around 70~80 mpbs download capacity using my current modem/router. So no issues there if I upgrade to 25 mpbs connection and replace my stormfiber connection in the future. What are upload speeds in the PTCL packages? Some people have 10 mpbs uploads on 25 mpbs PTCL connections, I have no idea where to look their upload speeds, Anyone have links to read all upload speeds for all PTCL connections?

Also I am thinking if I don't go to the exchange and just go brute force changing the VLAN ID I only need around 1 hour and 15 minutes to just hit my VLAN ID anyway and it would take me same time to go to exchange and back during working hours. Meeting with people is separate time. I might even try my hit and trial method on weekend if I can't go to exchange during work.

You'll either have to call 1218 and ask them to send you one.

Someone from the exchange will visit your house with a modem, configure it and then leave.

Brute forcing wouldn't be advisable since multiple attempts would temporarily ban you from their BNG server.

Which section of 1218 should I go with the modem request? Complaint section or package information or something else?

Any section, it doesn't really matter. They'll transfer you to the relevant section if they can't do it.

Alternatively, you can call the 'New order' helpline at 0800-80800 and they should be able to do it too.

I have tried using vlan id of 10 and 20 separately to be used in pppoe just to be sure that either one of them might work. It didn't work. If PTCL uses same vlan id for all people than either my account needs to be activated for vdsl usage I guess. Otherwise they have fixed vlan id for each user connected to their backend system which have their own vlan id fixed to each slot I guess. Only person who works in PTCL can confirm either things.

I guess I will order 25 mpbs when I think time is right for it.

As a last query of mine. Any have experience with 25 mpbs connection from ptcl vdsl vs gpon? When they work perfectly, how well they are for upload/download speeds difference between vdsl vs gpon speeds for 25mpbs connections? Do I have to change my number for ADSL to VDSL or GPON? If I don't need to change my number for vdsl/gpon, should I opt for gpon for better connection?

For VDSL/GPON, upload speeds are usually 75% of the subscribed download speed.

Although, the 25 Mbps package is an exception, where the speeds are symmetrical (25 down, 25 up). This is confirmed on GPON, but not sure if this applies to VDSL as well.

Sometimes the numbers change from ADSL to VDSL, but it's uncommon. For ADSL/VDSL to GPON migration, the number almost always changes to a new one because of how GPON is billed differently.

Consistency wise, VDSL and GPON are pretty much the same when it comes to download speeds. They'll both give you 25 down easily, unless there is some nationwide issue / submarine cable issue affecting everyone. It's far less picky and unstable when compared to old ADSL lines.

First of all you have to apply for conversion otherwise it will not work.

Second thing is that ADSL username and password will not work for VDSL.

They will provide you with different one after conversion

looks like your vdsl is not activated yet. Visit exchange and ask them to activate vdsl and they will give you new username and password
