MULTI [Rumor] New Xbox and PS4 Will Be Shown At E3 2012

UK games industry outlet MCV has reported that both the next Xbox AND the PlayStation 4 will be shown at this year's E3 in June.

This isn't the first time that a publication has cited an unnamed source with information like this, but this isn't some unknown central European games blog - MCV's credibilty makes this particular report worth paying attention to.

Speaking on Twitter, MCV's online editor Ben Parfitt said "Obviously we can't reveal our sources. But you have my personal word on this - the source is exemplary, 100% concrete, ultra high level."

We shouldn't necessarily expect a full-blown reveal, though - we might just see the announcement. Editor-in-Chief Michael French told IGN: "This is very credible. Even if we don't see the hardware itself, or know a price or date, key publishers and developers are expecting some nod towards what direction PS4 will take at E3 this year. Sony isn't stupid - it knows that if Microsoft is planning to also say something about its next console, it can't be left behind."

Many were expecting Microsoft to come out on stage at E3 with some information about the new Xbox, but Sony's reveal would be more surprising, as a new console at this stage in the PlayStation 3's life cycle would fly in the face of the company's stated "ten-year plan".

If both Sony and Microsoft do indeed reveal their new consoles at the same time as Nintendo details the release schedule and pricing for the Wii U, this would quite probably be the biggest E3 in history.

I HOPE it's not a rumor. but considering the source is MCV then how can it NOT be true =D. And I am hoping for better launch titles, flawless hardware launch (NO MORE RROD / YLOD / HARDWARE FAILURES PLEASE) and new features like support for anaglyphic 3D so that all types of monitors and tv can run 3D like they did house of the dead overkill.

It's kinda inevitable now. 360 and PS3's been in the market without a successor longer than their previous iterations. It's not that development and game releases will be stopped on PS3 or 360, it's just that they're gonna have a new monster of a machine in the family.

Hmmm... I wonder what Sony will do, I have no doubt that the next Xbox will atleast be announced at this years E3 but I'm not so sure about Sony.

Maybe Sony will stay true to their "ten year plan" and release the PS4 somewhere around 2016. Or they will just say that "Since we released the PS3 back in 06, gaming and gaming hardware has advanced faster and further than we anticipated. So to keep up with today's tech we are announcing the PS4"

It baffles me how people can think that by releasing a console earlier than 10 years, sony will be BOUND to stop production for the PS3. I mean just look at the PS2!

If people make this assumption by looking at the case of the original Xbox then that was a totally different scenario. The Xbox was not really successful in the previous gen, it only managed 25 million units during it's tenure. From a business standpoint, it was an excellent decision to drop production of a less than satisfactory performing product and cut cost from there, and then direct all those resources to forcing people to switch to the next gen.

The 1 year head start was perfect for them to capture the bulk of the developers who just couldn't wait to get their hands on a powerful machine (console) than any other at the time.

It's always hard to take you a little seriously. Don't worry, I read all the post. MS won because of money hats, and good marketing. Sony lost a lot of developers because of costly development, which is cheaper on 360. It had little to do with a year head start, actually.

Don't change the subject, i never said MS won, i only said the head start was a great decision. Heck i don't believe even subtly taking a shot at Sony or the Playstation brand lol.

Secondly, in terms of technicalities, the Xbox 360 WAS the most powerful console at the time of it's release. A point which, i think you seemed to have misinterpreted there in my last post.

I don't think so. Nintendo started off an year late too. Within months they overtook 360's userbase size. It's a mixture of various factors. SKU variety, pricing, etc on the consumer side and money hatting, software development support and familiarity with hardware and architecture and technical support for the developers. Add to that MS's abilities as a Marketeer.
