Nothing says "join our ecosystem" like releasing games on a completely different ecosystem

Why Sony need to entice PC players?
I said PC players who have yet to engage the Playstation ecosystem, so that excludes you, Goldenhawk, and even Necrokiller lol.

As for why? To convince more people to embrace Playstation.

Nothing says "join our ecosystem" like releasing games on a completely different ecosystem
It's what the company says as well.

Sure. I think it’s important that we stay open to new ideas of how to introduce more people to PlayStation, and show people maybe what they’ve been missing out on.

Yar as a PC player, and strictly a pc player, ( I don't own any modern consoles atm) this would not entice me to buy a PlayStation 5. I'm glad the exclusives are coming, however I will not be jumping ship. I'll just enjoy the games and move on.

lol @ embrace & entice

Sony's bread and butter of revenue comes from people who have embraced the platform for all their gaming. Physical, digital (PSN) and online pay walls (PS+) for mutliplatforms too. Even people like Chandoo don't fall into that category who have been enticed by PC gaming.

If its just a matter of "enticing" PC players, they already have a platform for doing that. Its called PS Now. Why go through all the effort of porting over games to run natively and split the revenue share with Valve (or EGS lol)?

If its just a matter of couple of old games, why not put them on Xbox and "entice" those players while they are at it? After all, a console player is far more likely to "embrace" another console ecosystem.

Why doesn't Chandoo fall in that category just because he isn't a PS+ subscriber? Does he not buy physical/digital games?

A streaming platform does not have the same reach, not to mention the resultant experience is lackluster. If the idea is to entice people to get a PS5 to play sequels/related games, this is the way to do it. Sony could have opted to create their own PC marketplace, but they didn't.

On the other hand, a game like Dreams may happen on PC, but for completely different reasons. It's a game engine for all intents and purposes, and building and selling executables is easier on PC.

If its just a matter of couple of old games, why not put them on Xbox and "entice" those players while they are at it? After all, a console player is far more likely to "embrace" another console ecosystem.
Perhaps they will? PC is a better place to experiment for games like Horizon and Bloodborne. SIE San Diego, a first-party studio, will be making games for Xbox in the near future, anyway. Also, maybe there is already a more significant overlap in the PS4 and Xbox One user base compared to PS4 and PC, and Sony sees untapped potential when it comes to the latter.

Horizon 2 and the Demon's Souls Remake are both rumored to be released on the PS5 during its launch window. By porting similar games in its PS4 lineup to PC, Sony is likely looking to make the PS5 more enticing for PC gamers who have yet to engage with the Playstation ecosystem.
If Dark Souls 1 + 2 + 3 on PC didn't make people buy PS4 for Bloodborne, I fail to see why Bloodborne on PC would make people buy PS5 for Demon's Souls

Ignored the context of multiplatform games, I see. Its about continuous streams of revenue and buying multiplatform games is a massive part of it (check the NPD charts if there is still any doubt). People getting scammed in the process is just a bonus for them. But having a PC for multiplatform games isn't what Sony would call "embracing" their ecosystem.

Reach is not an issue for a 720p streaming service. What better way to "entice" people for a full experience with minimal effort?

Untapped potential to get more sales from the confirmed and rumored games in question. They barely make any money on hardware and "embracing" the ecosystem would entail switching to Sony. That's not gonna happen.

Bloodborne alone probably won't. I doubt many PC-only gamers picked up a PS4 for just one title. Bloodborne and Horizon make a stronger case for two potential launch exclusives for a brand new console.

Would I have gone with this strategy if I were the SIE CEO? Probably not, but this is what the top-level management at Sony believes and has stated, and it may or may not work out for them.

Ignored the context of multiplatform games, I see.
Ignored Chandoo's list of played games on PS4, I see lol. At a quick glance, 83 or 117 games Chandoo has played on the platform are multiplats. You may argue that some of those were before he got a PC, but he recently played RE3, The Division 2, and Modern Warfare on PS4.

They aren't enticing people for the full experience. They're enticing people with the full experience for forthcoming releases.

Source on the part where they barely make any money on hardware? They were break even close to launch. The PS4 hardware has been profitable for a long time, and with subsequent die shrinks, reduced RAM cost, and manufacturing efficiency, it's likely quite profitable for a console that's only seen a single price drop since launch.

As for embracing the ecosystem, there are enough exclusives released each year for it to be worthwhile to Sony. The average PS4 owner today owns 10 games, and Sony appears to be pretty happy with that figure.

Well, no shit. That was the whole point to begin with. Count all the revenue Sony lost out on due to dexing.

Forthcoming releases that will be stuck at 30fps, no input peripheral choice, no regional pricing and no refund policy to match Steam's, among other things. As opposed to "enticing" people with the full experience on an ecosystem that provides all these options.

Those 10 games are not all exclusives. Just proving my point.

And if you're gonna bring other people as examples, its only fair to bring Chandoo in as well.

He still played a decent amount of multiplats pn PS4 since getting a PC, though. Certainly more than the average of 10.

Agree about the regional pricing and refund policy (which certainly may change with PS5), but it's likely that games will continue to offer graphics/performance modes just as they did with the Pro. With a significant leap in CPU power, we're likely to see more optional 60fps modes than before.

As for peripheral choice, just get a cheap xim4 or your favorite chronusmax lol.

Those 10 games are not all exclusives. Just proving my point.
Not sure what point I'm proving. Not everyone who gets a PS4 is also a PC gamer. And even as a PC gamer, one may still opt for some multipats on PS4.

May or may not happen. On PC you have options to control that. Highly motivated modders are still trying to get Bloodborne to run at 60fps on PS4 lol

Sounds like too much effort for too little a gain. Simpler answer is wanting to maximize sales of the games.

Sure, particularly when those multiplatform games haven't been cracked on PC yet, like Resident Evil 3, The Division 2 and Modern Warfare. If the game isn't free (cracked) on PC then it's always cheaper to buy physical copy of PS4 version and sell it after playing the game. Nothing to do with platform preference, just simple economics :p
