Wassup guys.., So For the past couple of years I gave up watching the current/new anime for some old anime. And It might be just my opinion but anime these days are more or less shit (the majority of them). They are full of moe designs and culture, needless fanservice etc. I'm a fan of old Japanese anime and I find that most of the quality piece of work and my favorites were released around 90s-2005. Many of them are underrated and miss the general public's eye unless one is specifically searching for old anime.

So I decided to make this thread if anyone else feels this way and wants to watch some of the old anime. If you find any anime around 90s-2005 and you think it was pretty good jsut post it here and let everybody know. Lemme start.

Blue Seed

So this was released around 2002. The art style is quite old but the anime itself was quite good. Story tells about the demons called Aragami running rampant in the current age. 2 sisters from the bloodline of Kushinada have the power to stop them but only when they will be used as a human sacrifice. The Aragami knew about this thus one of them ordered a young aragami baby to protect the Kushinada from humans in case they decide to sacrifice to annihilate them. However later on humans developed a special metal which nullifies Kushinada's powers. Now the aragami are on the run to Kill Kushinada under certain conditions where as that young aragami is still bounded to protect them.

Good story, good characters, some romance going on. Overall nice anime.

Gun x Sword

Ok so I doubt anyone here has seen this. I found it just by luck. This is a pretty good mecha action anime with good amount of plot/drama embedded.
The story follows a young man named Van who is out for revenge against a man with a claw who killed his fiance. In his travels he unwillingly saves a village where he gets to know a little girl Wendy. Turns out her brother was kidnapped by the bandits that attacked the village and they are somehow connected to that claw man. Thus they both set out on an adventure driven by their own somewhat mutual goals.

The story was nice, action is pretty good as well. Don't really like mecha but I enjoyed it pretty much. Was similar to Code Geass in the sense that it was somewhat more drama than action.

Rainbow

I dunno how the heck I found this but I'm happy I did. This isn't that old, released around 2010 but it still has this old feeling anime these days lack.
Awesome story, Awesome ost, some nice action, pretty dark themed and have to say underrated. Never heard about it.

Story revolves around 6 boys arrested and sent to reform school type prison. They suffer at the hands of a sadistic guard and a gay doctor. They meet another man imprisoned whom they start calling "Aniki" aka "Big Brother"
who gives them hope and determination. They all promise that one day, they will get out of this shit hole and meet outside.

Must watch.

This is the bomb... i mean this anime is sooo good..... but only the first season of this anime is what i call a dark gruesome and a brutal master piece... the eerie atmosphere, the soundtrack, the characters and the plot are all so well defined... even if a little cliched at times but nevertheless the anime delivers a blood pumping experience with some of the most brutal and awesome sword fights i'v ever seen in animes...

Berserk OST - 01 Behelit - YouTube

Try this.. :D

They ruined the anime after they turned it CG....neither does it feel the same anymore....the ost sucks and it lost the vibe that made Bersker...BERSERK.. that damn mysterious and an unearthly awe inspiring feeling in every frame of this anime... i wish they would'v just made this hand drawn... the completely shat on a masterpiece..

Another gem of the past overshadowed and overlooked cause of all the lolishit we have these days...
This one is very similar to Berserk in terms of how unpredictable it can be and what plots and twists it throws at you...Power, Money, Friendship and Betrayal....all portrayed perfectly in 26 episodes with no fillers or bullshit..

Kyou kara ore wa

Damn this one was a 10/10 show. Genre is comedy. It's about 2 boys who want to be delinquents and always get involved in fights. Good if you wanna take a break from any of the mainstream ones. Released as an OVA series. Has 10 episodes.

Neon Genesis Evangelion
The basic, initial, plot goes thus: a 14-year-old boy named Shinji is called to NERV (an organization charged with defending mankind from extinction, no less) by his estranged, seemingly cold and calculating father. There, his fathers' first words are an order to pilot an immense robotic machine, the titular Evangelion, and fight against the monster that's attacking Tokyo-3, the city under which NERV has it's headquarters. These illusory 'monsters' are called Angels and are seemingly invincible - traditional weaponry, even in the year 2015, has minimal effect upon them. Only the Eva 'biomechs', which can be piloted solely by certain selected 14-year-olds can stop them. This is merely the basic, initial premise of the series. As it goes on, everything gets a lot more complicated; There's a metric ton of mystery, suspense, twists and turns in Evangelion's plot, all routinely thought-provoking and intensely interesting.

The characters are excellent. This is an important point as the series is more about them than about the Angels or NERV. Shinji Ikari is one the most believable and genuinely sympathetic character ever conceived in anime. Though some would complain that Shinji is overtly emotional and annoyingly so. But, really, no one wants Shinji to become the 'Hollywood hero' and save the day with a smile on his face - no such human could ever really exist, and studio Gainax understand this and apply it perfectly to the series. Shinji's mental struggle is dealt with effectively by Hideki Anno, through the use of complex monologues and largely successful experimental cinematic techniques. Asuka and Rei, the other chosen children, are both polar opposites and ingenious characters. Both develop a great deal in a very interesting way throughout the series, and this character exploration and growth is at the heart of Evangelion.

The design aspects are wonderfully unique - the Evas themselves are strikingly colourful and the Angels are attention grabbing and memorable with many towering over Tokyo-3's skyscraper. The Angels appear in many different forms (one Angel takes the form of a gargantuan, blue diamond while another is too small to be seen with the naked eye and acts as an organic virus, crippling NERV's computer system) which helps Eva avoid the repetitve "Monster of the Week" format and keeps the action aspect of the series consistently fresh and enjoyable. Judeo-Christian references are famous (or rather, infamous) in Evangelion and despite widespread condemnation, I am of the firm belief that the symbolism is never obnoxious, and always evocative and visually shocking. It must be noted these references are usually fairly shallow, but they make you sit up and take notice of the deeper meaning in the series as a whole. Animation is crisp and clear for the platinum re-mastering that I watched, and I hasten to add that this re-mastering is only version of Eva worth buying. Visuals are regularly stunning and scenes from this series will surely stay with you forever. The regular provocative imagery is often times shocking and sometimes awe-inspiring. The image of a crippled Rei, bleeding and covered in bandages in the first episode provides the first real shock of the series. Such imagery contrasts with the visual gags present throughout - a toothpick container obscuring Shinji's nether regions in episode 2 being one of the most memorable.

The music is, much like the rest of Eva, superbly memorable. It excels at setting the right mood and tone, using inspirational trumpets to highlight Asuka and Shinji's success in battle, and nuanced reflective tunes to convey the character of Rei. The OP is among my favourites of all time and you'll not tire of hearing it throughout the 26 episodes of the series.

The final two episodes are controversial (more controversial than the rest of the series at least!) because they are both the peak of experimental Eva. While I certainly wouldn't call them "bad", they are frustratingly unsatisfying as an ending. Thankfully, the subsequent movie release titled 'End of Evangelion' rectifies this with bombastic aplomb. EoE - which essentially tells the story of what happens in eps. 25 and 26, but this time outside of Shinji's mind - is truly magnificent, and definitely lives up to the sky high standards set in the series, and perhaps even exceeds them. As well as being one of the greatest anime movies ever made, EoE gives the series an extraordinary conclusion.

I haven't even mentioned the dub, the pacing or the sound effects, but rest assured that they are all of a fantastic standard. Overall, I think this series deserves it's iconic status - it's easily one of the absolute best TV series (anime or otherwise) that I've ever seen. Every single episode is nothing less than a masterpiece and an utter joy to watch. I whole heartedly recommend Neon Genesis Evangelion. It is imperative that you watch this anime!

Black Cat

The anime follows the story of Train Heartnet, also known as "Black Cat" in the underground world an infamous assassin. While on a routine job he mets and befriends a normal girl and is amused by her positive outlook on life.
Thus he begans to change and leaves his organization to start working off as a bounty hunter. But it seems his organization isn't willing to let go the infamous Black Cat this easily.

Not really a 90s thing, but early 2000s, but has some retro vibes. One of my personal favorites. If you like Berserk you should definitely give this a read, you won't regret it.

20th Century Boys is really, really good too. You should check it out if you like dystopian stories. It also has amazing art, and a simple-but-complex plot with a lot of classic tropes that fit right in.

Damn this one was 9/10. Laughed my ass off, not to mention I love delinquent anime, where there is a duo known to get into fights with a pinch of comedy. There are 7, 50 minute episodes. The 7th episode yet to get translated even though it's a 90s anime. Still it's worth to watch those 6 if you are free and need a good laugh.

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.

After I watched it, I never felt like i watched a show. It was a friggin journey. I got way too attached to Thorfinn and seeing him grow up and find himself and get rid of all the negativity inside of him was just pure bliss.
