Hello PG Community,

So Team PG would like to have Your Feedback on an interesting topic which has been raised a few times in past, and Abby raised it again recently.

What if we were to have Restricted 18 + Sub-Forum (Basically a 18+ ChitChat cafe)? A number of times in past, we have had to curb discussions or close topics which alot of Team PG felt were fun and interesting but went against our policy of keeping PG "family-friendly" - In this section, these and more...will be allowed

This will be for users with : more than 400 posts + recommended by a member already IN + over 18 years of age + at least 3 Achievements under their belt + (To-Be-Decided) % Weekly Activity

I will add some of the discussion and conclusions that Team PG reached - to give more context to this post :

Negatives:

  • Leakages would happen, hence reputation effects. We won't be able to control such leakages.
  • How do we handle banning ? Banning someone would increase the hatred, to say the least.
  • Immaturity and abusive language would increase across the forum.

if we allow too much freedom (specially considering Religious / other fanaticism in our dear country)like screenshots from PG being posted around facebook groups and us being mis-representative

The rules have to be defined very tightly and clearly

Leakages as in a thread about sexuality, religion or so. Some dumbass screenshots it and puts it all over social media badmouthing PG as a platform that promotes taboo content. It has the potential to be really nasty given our society.

I think a good bet for rules as a start would be:
Don'ts:
- No porn links
- No religious threads
- No torrent links
- No Extreme Gore

Do's:

- Post whatever you want but keep spam under control
- 18+ topics are allowed unless specifically banned
- Society, political, sexual, personal stuff, random BS

There is no need to rush, we should draft up proper rules and trial run it but I think we should move forward with it. I think this section can also pave way for a new influx of members to explore other areas of the forum, potentially increasing activity and traffic.

I think we should be viewing this from a very serious perspective first and foremost ( sexual, philosophical, society, "fun and casual" topics are something we can control easily) but discourse regarding specially Religion can and will probably spillover in animosity in the forum ( even outside forum - IRL) that would be extremely bad and hard to control. -

Specially looking forward to responses from experienced PG members. No Decision has been made over if we go ahead or not, but like always since PG is a community driven platform, we wanted to ask the community for if this is something we should spend energy on ...or not!?

The cool thing was to see TEAM PG new members replying and bringing some life into the idea ( so I wanna thank @Assassin @XxRebellionxX @iNCEPTiON @EternalBlizzard
@manigamer @JANARIOO @nafu @murtaza12 @GloriousChicken @Khawaja haroonsheikh ) for the responses

Please feel free to @ mention members you think can add value
@abobobilly @Shyber @Chandoo @r3aper @Nomad @CerebralTiger @Necrokiller

In my opinion the potential negatives far outweigh any positives. It will be difficult to manage and control.

I'm in favor of it. We can always pull the plug if it starts going out of the hand, and besides we are a community of educated people and I'm sure this would bring in some interesting topics. You have clearly defined the DOs and DONTs and there'd be no problem enforcing them either.

I'd give it a try to see how it turns out.

I would sure like to see that section. But as Assassin said we can pull the plug if things go south.

I'm gonna say no. There's little real life reasons why we should have one and it might become an issue for ad revenue stuff down the line.

Well one suggestion would be to moderate the shit out of everything that's posted in the sub forum/group IF you want to keep things going on within that place.

Having said that, the moderators will have their work cut out for them unless there's many of them around to do the job. Posting a new thread as well as replies in the said thread would be approved before others can view them.

But that's kinda making you look like a dictator (Zia-ul-Haq) :p and you wouldn't want to be that. This is democracy! xD

And if you're already thinking about pulling the plug should things become sour, well then you're better off with not going ahead with it at all.

You start it then see it to the bitter end :D

PG has earned a good reputation so far and having such a section may impact its image. In our culture where ever its specifically mentioned that this stuff is for 18+ then different people take this as per their perception about it. Even if it can be taken off anytime but till that time damage would have been done (as stated by other team members)

Suggestion: I think name of respective sub-section would also matter and we can gradually move towards such sub-section by gradually allowing such stuff. This way it can help us to monitor how its going and whether we need to proceed further or not and whether we need to make our sub-section policies relaxed or not. Same way you might have done when PG was launched and different policies would have added / removed with the passage of time.

Thanks

What most of the extremes are saying. Right now it seems more detrimental than beneficial for the community.
The thing that concerns me the most is the reputation of the site getting destroyed. Things like heated political talks, which will involve bashing other parties etc. since it's unrestricted, are sure to bring trouble if leaked out on the social media.

It definitely sounds lucrative but as pointed out earlier, it will be too difficult to handle/moderate.

I agree with Nomad. The negatives FAR outweigh the positives in this case.

it will be very difficult to control such a sub-forum ....just saying
wow..super interesting responses and thank you

Another question :
would making chitchat cafe more lenient and incorporating a little more forgiving attitude, be better?

So from what I've gathered the last time I was summoned in a thread is that PG lacks a healthy amount of daily posts with respect to the number of members. Although such an action would certainly help with that, because who doesn't like to vent every now and then?

Initially I thought, great idea!! ButtThe thing to consider is,first we are a gaming forum. As I cannot judge how satisfactory video games related posts, content, and community contribution is at the moment, that would be my primary focus before looking at things like 18+ Chit Chat.

Now to come back on topic, IMO such a section would cause higher moderation and administration efforts. I mean look at this:

This will be for users with : more than 400 posts + recommended by a member already IN + over 18 years of age + at least 3 Achievements under their belt + (To-Be-Decided) % Weekly Activity
I stopped reading after the first two criteria, because who cares if the entry criteria is so strict :p
You have to look at it from a cost-to-benefit perspective.
Why would I go through so much trouble as a new member when I'm already e.g. 30+ if I want to have some fun?

If my vote counts for anything, go ahead and do a trial run and see how it works. But the only plus side (really!) I see of this action, is increased traffic where it doesn't really matter.

Anyway, you can talk all the shit you want on the shoutbox if the mods aren't watching.. or just join them ;)

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.

After I watched it, I never felt like i watched a show. It was a friggin journey. I got way too attached to Thorfinn and seeing him grow up and find himself and get rid of all the negativity inside of him was just pure bliss.
