LMAO except that it's just one organic planet among lots of futuristic ones. In Horizon, you're on the planet 🤣
Even worse then, since R&C had the powahhh of the PS5 exclusively at its disposal 🤷‍♂️

I/O eliminated pop-in, only compute capabilities couldn't keep up 🤷‍♂️

Atleast now you've accepted the reality as opposed to believing that SSD alone would be able to solve these 'next-gen' problems 😂

That's right, the SSD alone doesn't solve my problems with previous gen games. It's only one key component of the PS5's I/O system 🤷‍♂️

The problems I expected to be resolved were:

a) Faster traversal through detailed worlds without stutter
b) Elimination of I/O related design considerations, such as narrow passages to load the scene ahead
c) Traveling from one detailed environment to another within a split-second

LOD pop-in can happen all it wants as long as these things are there 😄

That high speed pop-in free open world traversal! Stuff like this is next-gen for me. A physically correct lighting model, not so much.
And I don't see 'next-gen' assets becoming a hurdle any time soon, as there's plenty of headroom with an ssd.

One thing that surprised me, a little, was the warping between worlds, which is a bit different to what you might've seen in trailers. The big, between-multiple-dimensions moments, where the hero's falling through the sky and the environment rapidly flicks from one to the next, only come in cutscenes.

Those moments you saw in the trailers, where Ratchet flew through rift after rift after rift into different worlds—they’re just for the cutscenes. In the end, you’re just planet hopping like last time, only in a different dimension.

Wooooww, so next-gen !! 😂 😂

The idea of dimension-hopping seems quite exciting, especially in a game series that has already taken players to the furthest reaches of the galaxy. But, as it turns out, the other dimension is just a spinoff, rather than a contrasting image.
And speaking of dimensions, while they may be at the core of the story and frequently appear in the background, the gameplay doesn't change a whole lot. You can tether to rifts that exist in specific locations, and despite their visual effect of pulling the world towards you rather than you to it, functionally they are just simple tethers.

There are also occasional set pieces where you'll traverse multiple dimensions – and while that may sound impressive, the reality is that you're always on-rails and/or cannot leave a tiny area in the other dimensions. So it's not like the game is instantly swapping between full, interactive levels. It's a cool experience, certainly, just not a technology breakthrough that it may appear. There are also moments where you can interact with an object to change the level to another version – again, intriguing, but it has been done before in other games.

This is next-gen.
