Dunno about other JRPGS but Souls games are popular for their Soul Level 1 runs. That just goes to show the depth in its combat system.

Ofcourse certain gamers NEED that grind to clear a boss! Doesn't mean the game forces that on you, unlike certain FF games, you have to grind in those!

Stamina management system in Sekiro would not make any sense! It has a very fast paced navigation system.

Its so ironic to say Souls games are easy because you can grind and over level but if you have to do that then obviously the game isn't easy for you lol
I mean if you intentionally abuse a system or play it a certain way only it would obviously feel tedious!

Now, a gamer chasing chickens in their fav. games would obviously not go beyond the typical grind to win route! :p

Yeah, From's games are easy. You can pretty much grind for an hour in an area and get overpowered enough to destroy the nearby boss. People have been doing this in JRPGs for ages lol.

The one exception is Sekiro, where leveling up is tied to defeating boss. But players are afforded a spammable deflect mechanic, a simple rock-paper-scissors loop for countering most unblockables, and infinite stamina for dashing/rolling around, which more than makes up for it.
Reading your comment definitely cements the fact that I'm really terrible at this games

Of course I have done grinding in Souls games lol. If it's possible to break a game, I'll do it. And before you ask, no I don't play offline to avoid invasions. It's the quickest way to grind items needed for 100% completion in these grindy ass games.

Also, Sekiro doesn't even have grinding, but I still broke it 🤣

They feel grindy because you play it a certain way. Dont label them as grindy, they are not just grindy!

Break a game ? Why would you even do that lol

Souls in a nutshell is all about the feeling of joy and a sense of attainment. It rewards patience, determination etc. Like no other.

If you dont get this from souls, it is not for you and it is not because the game is broken either.

The most hilarious part is how CerebralTiger doesn't mention Bloodborne in his From Software bashing as if that wasn't grindy and couldn't be broken.

"Collect all rings to plat, but, oh, did we mention one of them is only obtainable after defeating the final hidden boss...in NG++?" lol. Imagine thinking Souls games aren't grindy. Yikes! 🤣

Souls games are all about clunky and outdated mechanics and lazily implemented hit boxes 🤷‍♂️

There is no such thing as a perfect game!

Almost all RPGs are grindy if you want to 100 percent them, why hold that against souls lol

That is not the core experience!

Outdated mechanics, now that is subjective, dark souls in particular is intentionally slow in nature.

From has given these games their own unique flair! Dark souls is not Sekiro, Blood borne is not Demons Souls.

But hey, if it really gives you that sense of 'game breaking' attainment! It wins, why hold it against it ?

Also, that is a weird sense to have in gaming :p

Anyways, I started Psychonauts 1 before starting Yakuza, didn’t seem half bad, will continue it soon.

Yeah if you didnt like Souls games Bloodborne wasn't different enough to change your mind about the rehashed formula.
About damn time they changed the core mechanics which were becoming stale since DS2.
Did they ever patch how spam friendly, exploitable and easy the combat is in Bloodborne with parrying (and dodging)? And these are boss fights and exploits even work on non-humanoid bosses lol

Feels like the devs knew how easy the game had been before that and were overcompensating here. Disappointed that much of the previous issues in the series aren't fixed at all. With all the rolling and dodging, if and when you end up near a wall/pillar or heavy object, the camera just craps out. The targeting system is still a hit or miss. Enemies can still attack through walls, pillars or even from below if you're on higher ground. This leads to deaths which are not the player's fault.

All of these issues are more pronounced in the Souls series since it revels in being punishing. And no matter how much you 'git gud', the developers at From Software refuse to 'git gud' on their part.
