Its happening!!!!

  • It is still in early pre-production.
  • Psychonauts 2 will explore more of Raz’s backstory, including his family’s curse to always die in water, as well as more adventures through different minds.
  • There’ll be some new psychic powers mixed in with the old ones.
  • A lot of the old team is getting back together: Erik Wolpaw will help write it, Peter Chan will be doing more concept art, Peter McConnell is doing the music.
  • Voice actors Richard Horvitz (Raz) and Nikki Rapp (Lily) will also be returning.

inb4 overfunded, delayed release date, asking for more money, game is split into seven parts, asking for more money, delayed again, buyer's remorse, new kickstarter for new game, gets funded.

People actually giving this fat fuck more money is hilarious.

Yeah, President and CEO of Double Fine Studios.

You okay, tcg?
Whoops, jumped the gun on that one. But it doesn't make his involvement with fig any less real. The guy profiting from the campaign is also the guy running it.

It's like a charity organization being the benefactor of their own fundraiser. At least with Kickstarter there was some middle man involved. Who's overseeing what's going to happen with all the money?

FINALLY! I'm so looking forward to this. I absolutely loved the first one. But this crowdfunding approach seems dubious :/

[h=2]Psychonauts 2 hits its funding goal with five days to go[/h][h=3]Raised over $3.3 million[/h]

Psychonauts 2 has just met its crowdfunding campaign goal. The sequel to the cult classic raised just over $3.3 million with five days left.
Series creator Tim Schafer launched the project in early December via Fig, a platform he and fellow developers founded last August. Backers are offered equity in projects they put up the money for, as well as rewards similar to Kickstarter campaigns. For Psychonauts 2, the rewards include soundtracks, digital copies of the first and second games, and more.

Schafer confirmed that the game was in the works on-stage at The Game Awards 2015. It will launch on Linux, Mac, PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, although there's no release date yet. The campaign page lists Fall 2018 as the expected arrival date for the rewards, however. A PlayStation VR spinoff is also in the works.
Check out the debut trailer below.

[h=2]Psychonauts 2 takes place mere hours after the first game[/h][h=3]Tim Schafer goes in-depth on what it's all about[/h]

The story of Psychonauts 2 begins not too long after the original game, Double Fine head Tim Schafer revealed in his recent Ask Me Anything thread before getting into the meat of the plot.
Not only will the game again star Raz, who's just "a few hours older" than last time, Schafer said, but the Psychonauts star will embark upon an adventure both he and Schafer have long dreamed of.

As previously mentioned, Raz will finally enter the Psychonauts Headquarters, regrouping with spies Sasha and Milla. "But," Schafer wrote, "he finds several things strange about the organization.
"While Truman Zanotto was missing, several changes to the direction of the organization were made by his second in command. Funding was cut from traditional psychic research and peacekeeping, and redirected to unorthodox, fringe endeavors, including the discredited practice of necromancy."
This inevitably leads to the discovery of trouble afoot — Schafer mentions "double agents and evils of the past." The latter category includes Raz delving into his own personal history, and he'll have to deal with his family's curse to restore order.
That's a lot to deal with, but Schafer threw out one more obstacle for Raz: a girlfriend.
Although hints about the basic premise of the game have been given since its December reveal, this is the first time Schafer has gone in-depth about what the sequel to the fan favorite will really entail. The game's Fig campaign page teases that there will be new and old powers in the hero's possession, as well as new minds to explore.

In-between Psychonauts and its sequel, however, is PlayStation VR title Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin. The game was officially announced during PlayStation Experience 2015. While it takes place directly after the first and before the second, Rhombus of Ruin functions as a standalone title.
Just recently, Double Fine reached its funding goal for the project through Fig, which offers funders the chance to become investors. A fall 2018 launch is targeted for the future PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One game.
Watch the debut teaser trailer, which premiered during The Game Awards 2015, below.

[h=1]Every Fig backer can finally pony up for Psychonauts 2[/h]

[h=2]Fig has completed SEC review, will fulfill its promise to non-accredited investors[/h]

The Fig equity crowdfunding platform has finally finished its review process with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. That means non-accredited investors who made reservations to fund games like Psychonauts 2 months ago now have the opportunity to actually purchase equity in the game.
Fig was launched more than a year ago with the goal of allowing fans to share in the profits earned by their favorite games. When it initially launched in August 2015, there were only two options available to fans: traditional, rewards-based backing and equity investment by accredited, high net-worth individuals. But starting in December 2015, Fig opened investment to non-accredited investors as well, meaning basically anyone can invest through Fig.
Non-accredited investment was included as an option in the campaigns for both Psychonauts 2 and Consortium: The Tower. But the SEC review process dragged on for months. Reservations had been taken, but non-accredited investors’ money was not able to be collected until the review process ended. Now that the review is over, Fig and several development teams will need to chase down these non-accredited investors and get them to pay up.
All challenges aside, the SEC’s approval marks a huge milestone for Fig and its partners. They are now the first company able to take non-accredited investment for games, which puts them in a unique position in the crowdfunding industry.

"Enabling fans and communities to directly support and financially benefit from their favorite games is transformative to the publishing of interactive entertainment and beyond," said Justin Bailey, founder and chief executive officer of Fig, in a press release issued today. "Fig is committed to evolving video game publishing and crowdfunding in this direction that benefits fans, communities, and developers, and ultimately to the making of great games."
After many months without any campaigns, Fig has announced three in quick succession. Make Sail, a physics construction game focused on building and sailing boats, launched its campaign just yesterday. Next up is indie title Trackless, and later into October comes the campaign for InXile Entertainment’s Wasteland 3. All are expected to allow rewards-based, accredited and non-accredited investment options.

[h=1]Psychonauts 2 will get all the money its investors pledged[/h]

[h=2]How an extended SEC review has challenged Fig to adapt[/h]

Psychonauts 2 is the first crowdfunded game project to offer equity investment to everyone, not just the rich. Its campaign, run through the Fig crowdfunding platform, concluded in January of this year with nearly $3.83 million raised. But neither Fig nor developer Double Fine Productions has been able to collect a portion of those investment dollars — specifically, money from non-accredited investors — because of an ongoing review by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. That process ended last week, and today non-accredited investors are being asked to pay for the shares they reserved.
But even if Fig and Double Fine can reach those many hundreds, perhaps thousands of investors who reserved the right to purchase shares in the project, those individuals are under no obligation to actually pay up.
That’s why Fig has promised to provide that money itself, if need be.
"We have agreed to fund an amount to Psychonauts 2 regardless of collections," Fig founder and CEO Justin Bailey told Polygon during a telephone interview yesterday. It’s the same promise Fig has made to other teams, including the one behind Consortium: The Tower, which raised nearly $350,000 via Fig in May.

Psychonauts 2 delayed past 2018Double Fine says it needs more timePsychonauts 2 won’t make its previously scheduled release window of 2018, developer Double Fine Productions confirmed today in an update. Expect Raz’s next adventure in 2019 at the earliest.Double Fine founder Tim Schafer spoke with Psychonauts 2 project lead Zak McClendon who broke the news in today’s video update for backers of the crowdfunded game. McClendon said that after completing the first playable build and determining the size and scope of the game, the developer opted to push the game’s release window back to ensure its quality.Psychonauts 2 previously had a planned release date of Q3 2018.McClendon and Schafer did not announce a new release window. “We do know about how long it’s going to take but we don’t want to say anything until we have a firm date for people,” McClendon said. “We want to give it time to make it something that we love and that the fans love and continues the legacy of Psychonauts 1 in a real meaningful and special way.”With that bad news out of the way, Double Fine spent the remainder of today’s video update showing off new characters, specifically the members of protagonist Raz’s family. There’s a ton of new art and behind-the-scenes glimpses at Psychonauts 2’s expanded world, which you can see in the embedded video above.Psychonauts 2 was announced in December 2015. The game was crowdfunded through Fig. Double Fine raised more than $3.8 million through that crowdfunding platform to bring the sequel to 2005’s Psychonauts to console and PC. Publisher Starbreeze announced earlier this year that it had invested $8 million toward the Psychonauts 2’s development and plans to publish the game.

[h=1]Psychonauts 2’s first story trailer introduces the Motherlobe[/h]

[h=2]The Motherlobe is filled with mysteries[/h]

At the 2018 Game Awards, Double Fine and Starbreeze showed off the first story-based trailer for Psychonauts 2. While there is some light gameplay shown toward the end of the trailer, the main focus is on introducing the Motherlobe, a secret fortress of mind secrets that the sequel seems to focus on.
This trailer makes one of the few appearances of Psychonauts 2 in the last year, with the last real news around the game popping up last year, when it was delayed past 2018. Despite a newly announced 2019 window, we currently have little else to go off on when this long-awaited game will launch. However, it does seem that the 13-year wait for a sequel to the beloved, quirky, psychological adventure game will finally come to an end soon.
Psychonauts 2 is expected to launch at some point in 2019. This all comes after the game’s successful backing on Fig back in 2016. Backers pledged 3.8 million dollars toward the long awaited sequel, surpassing the backing goal by $500,000.

[h=1]Psychonauts 2 now delayed to 2020[/h]

New publisher and a second pushback for the Double Fine game displease some Fig investors

Psychonauts 2is delayed. Again.
The sequel to Double Fine Productions’ 2005 cult hit is now expected sometime in 2020, studio boss Tim Schafer told donors in an update posted to the crowdfunding platform Fig on Wednesday. This is now the second pushback and third launch window for the game. Announced in 2015, Psychonauts 2 was originally due in 2018 and subsequently expected sometime this year.
Plenty has happened for both the game and Double Fine over the past year, however.Microsoft bought the studio, for starters. It also bought the publication rights to Psychonauts 2 from original publisher Starbreeze, which is in bankruptcy reorganization. Psychonauts 2 is still due on all the platforms Double Fine originally promised: PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One.
“We know it’s always disappointing when you have to wait a bit longer, but we also know that you are an amazing, supportive bunch, who — just like us — want the game to be as good as possible,” Double Fine said in yesterday’s update.
Some backers are displeased with the news.
“I am deeply disappointed in the commercial process that Psychonauts 2 has turned into,” wrote investor zikadenwanderun. “From my perspective, the crowd-funding money was used for kissing ass at conventions and now sell-out candy to publishers. I wanted to support the game, not your ego. This included a reliable work schedule as the basis for a relationship with the consumer fan base that funded it.”
Others were more forgiving.
“Very happy with the extra time and even with Microsoft takeover as long as you keep the making of the game independent,” wrote investor AaronMengerink. “Great job of finding such a good new publisher.”
Psychonauts 2 was originally pegged for sometime between July and September of 2018. But in late 2017, Double Fine told donors that after completing the game’s first playable build, developers needed more time to finish the game.
Psychonauts 2 was announced at The Game Awards 2015 and subsequently crowdfunded in January 2016 with $3,829,024 in contributions from 24,109 backers.
