INFORMATION REGARDING THE INCIDENT:
Mayday calls had been issued by PK661 between 3:15-30 and ATC was made aware when the incident took place. The aircraft was NOT a Fokker (they were taken out of service after the Multan airport crash) but an ATR-42/72 that was inducted into service in the year 2006. Icing conditions have been said to be possible that have had led to one of the engines catching fire and failing. Once that occurs, the wing is built from composite materials and can't sustain such temperatures that eventually caused it to fracture and give in on its structural integrity that led onto this unfortunate accident.

Reports in Pakistan suggest the plane was previously plagued by engine problems.

Screw PIA for cheaping out and putting so many lives in danger.

Osama-Land!
Inna Lillahi wa inna Ilaihi raji'un

2016 has been an extremely cruel year and it couldn't get any sadder. I hope it comes to an end without loosing anymore of our loved ones.

I have been reading the news about yesterday's incident. There were 4 planes pin pointed by the aviation authority which were not capable of flights anymore and should have been downed and taken out of service permanently. The plane that crashed yesterday was one of these 4 planes.

It is sheer ignorance of PIA administration that a plane which should have been taken out of service was flying in such hard climatic conditions and it was doing 4 to 6 flights in a day. I don't understand when was the maintenance being carried out for this plane. But as it always happens in this country, a investigations team will be made, money will be announced for the family of the victims, years will pass, government institutions will show same ignorant behavior more citizens will die. Nothing changes.

Junaid Jamshed was a good man. Leaving all that fame in his young age when he was on the top of the world for the love of God is not something every man could do. Although he made a few mistakes in his last few years and he was overly mistreated for it by the people but he was an honest and brave person at heart. After all we are all sinners... and the best of us sinners are those who repent to God Almighty with all heart, and he was amongst those.

May Allah grant the highest place in Jannat to all the victims of this plane crash and to those who died in this cruel year. Ameen.

Very sad and tragic news. May the departed souls rest in peace.

Death is inevitable but there is no security and safety thing exist in Pakistan. General precautions and standard are not being observed properly resulting into such incidents leaving several families and kids into untold hardships. May Allah help bereaved families to bear this loss.

Yes, people die everyday, in much more tragic manners but personally, you only deeply feel the ones that are close to you and for myself, I never recall being very upset by a 'celebrity's' death. Until now. Allah knows best and we shouldn't judge positive OR negative for anyone, but it was apparently a shahadah. A death in the path of Allah. Again only Allah knows the intentions and the truth and we should only pray for the departed, the deeply we care the more we should pray. Pray for his grave to be a garden of Jannah, and the knowledge that that is so much better for him than a few more years of life here. In short, we do hope and pray that he's in an infinitely better place.

Despite knowing all that and reassuring myself, I couldn't help but feel a void that wasn't there before. He had so much indirect influence on my life as a Pakistani, a very small instance of direct but extremely influential impact in personal capacity in 2003 which started by me bumping into him in a mosque accidentally and having a conversation which started by me asking, "Are you Junaid Jamshed"? I can never forget that day. I can never forget him.

Todays Transports! Everytime we sit on a plane at that exact moment we are handing our lifes to that Pilot and Airlines ,Well I wouldn't blame Pilots,I have been on many Airlines (Qatar Airways,Air China,China Southern,PIA,Sri Lankan Airlines & more ) and I found PIA pilots mostly had Smoothest take offs and landings ,except for few times when they make your ears bleed 😡,we should think of it in such a way "jab ye pilots in purane jahazhon say kaam chala rahe hain agr in k paas new planes hotay tho kesi flight hoti?" in my experience PIA and Sri Lankan airlines both careless in different matters ,Lankan despite of payment would sell your seats out and will excuse of offering another Airline this happens almost every single time last time airport management team had to cut us through lines to make the plane leave on scheduled time sooner or later lankan will be banned from beijing airport of this continues, coming back to PIA I have always had worse experience with them, they don't care in what condition a plane is,I remember once we had a 6 hour flight while we started to smell something burning on runway pilot made an announcement "we are facing a issue in plane we'll be updating you shortly" 20mins later "issue has been resolved by itself 😄 we'll soon be ready for take off" YES DEATH IS INEVITABLE and every one has his/hers time and place, but gambling with people's life without taking precautions is something else, PIA flights are mostly delayed and often pilots strain plane's engine in order to catch up with schedule ,I can't Imagine how that last minute spent for those people knowing its over,Allah unhe jannat nasseb farmye Amen

CHITRAL: Sorrow and grief reigned supreme in Chitral on Thursday due to the killing of 20 local persons in the plane crash, which also claimed life of the popular deputy commissioner of the district, Osama Ahmed Warraich.

All the educational institutions, government and semi-government offices and markets remained closed and people thronged the houses of the victims of the plane crash.

Quran Khawani was also held for the departed souls in a number of mosques and religious seminaries. The funeral prayers in absentia were also held for Osama Ahmed Warraich.

The plane crash has deprived Hasina, a student of 8th grade,
of her entire family members including her father Mirza Gul, mother Gul Huran, elder sister Zahida Parveen,
younger sister Karina and two younger brothers Hassan Ali and Farhan Ali.

20 locals lost lives in the tragedy; entire family of 8th grader Hasina perished

The family was going to Lahore to condole the death of a relative and Hasina was left behind as her school vacations were scheduled for December 23.
She was supposed to join the family afterwards.

Subhanud Din, a neighbour of Hasina, told Dawn that she was watching TV news channel which broke the news to her.
She fell unconscious to hear the news, he added.

He said that Hasina was taken to Islamabad on Thursday for taken sample from her body to carry out DNA test to establish the identity of her family members.

The story sorry tale of Ayesha Usman, a resident of Drosh village, is equally touching one as she kept her husband waiting for her in Islamabad.
He had never met her as their nikah was solemnised by telephone two weeks ago and she was scheduled to fly to England with her spouse where he was settled.
After obtaining M Phil degree in chemistry from Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad last year, she wanted to earn a doctorate degree in England but the plane crash made it a wish never to be fulfilled.

Two real sisters Farrah Naz and Rani Mehreen from Drosh village were also travelling in the ill-fated plane.
They were married in Punjab and their husbands were waiting for them at Islamabad airport.

Another passenger of the flight Shahzada Farhad Aziz, who was travelling along with his only daughter Tayyeba Aziz to Islamabad, was in the prime of his youth. He was a celebrated paraglider, who introduced it in the district a decade ago.

The royal fort of Chitral has never seen such large scale mourning in its history which depicted his popularity among the common people.

Salman Zainul Abidin had joined Hashoo Foundation in Chitral as its regional programme manager just a week ago.
He was going to Islamabad to attend a meeting while he had lost his elder brother Imran in a bomb blast in Mingora, Swat in 1987.

Takbeer Khan, a known businessman, was going to Islamabad to attend the graduation ceremony of one of his sons, who graduated from a religious seminary there.
The tragic death of Osama Ahmed Warraich was talk of the town. People were deeply shocked by the incident as he was popular among the locals his posting in October 2015 in the district.
He had taken a number of bold steps including launching anti-encroachment drive throughout the district which his predecessor never dared to think of while establishment of the first public park also popularised him among the people.

good job by dawn..a small introduction of some of the people onboard that flight..when we start reading about the background of people lost and make them larger than just a number, a slightly truer perspective can be gained.
