[h=1]Next No Man’s Sky update adds alien archeology and a ‘weirder, more surprising universe’[/h]

[h=2]Hello Games will release the Vision update this week[/h]

No Man’s Sky is getting a bunch of big changes this week. Hello Games will release the Vision update for its space exploration game, bringing with it a “weirder, more surprising universe.” More varied flora and fauna, more colorful worlds — No Man’s Sky even has rainbows now.
The Vision update, version 1.75 of No Man’s Sky, will offer more than just new and interesting aesthetics; the game is also adding additional things to discover, salvage and collect. Hello Games has added “mysterious artifacts” that can be found on alien planets and displayed as trophies in your planetary base.
Players can also excavate the ancient bones of alien creatures for lucrative rewards; salvage crashed ships and satellites for scrap; and harvest new crystal materials from hazardous planets, resources that light up during extreme weather.
No Man’s Sky is also getting new lifeforms, including some that look like ordinary minerals, but are actually predatory fauna. Flora are getting deadlier, too.
Hello Games is also updating how Community Research missions work. Players can share their individual progress to work toward a common goal. Rewards include “new emotes, building parts and a range of fireworks.” Oh yeah, they also added fireworks.
The trailer above highlights those changes and others coming to No Man’s Sky with the Vision update. All that content drops on Thursday, Nov. 22.
Vision follows No Man’s Sky’s last major update, named The Abyss, which focused on improving underwater gameplay elements. The space exploration game is available on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.

No Man's Sky's next major update is Beyond, brings "radical" new online component

Hello Games has unveiled the next major free update heading to its exploratory space sim No Man's Sky. It's called Beyond, is due this summer, and includes a "radical" new online multiplayer component.

No Man's Sky: Beyond is described as the game's "most ambitious chapter so far", and started life as three separate planned updates before Hello Games made the decision to combine them into one. The studio isn't revealing every feature to be included in Beyond just yet, but has shared early information on the first component, known as No Man's Sky Online.

This, according to the developer, will introduce "a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together". It's not entirely clear what this means in practice, but it evidently builds upon the multiplayer features introduced in last year's Next update - which enabled teams of four to play, explore, and create together in No Man's Sky's procedurally generated universe.

Hello Games says that No Man's Sky Online will feature "many recognisable online elements" and will bring people together "like never before". However, it also stresses that it doesn't consider the game to be an MMO, and that the new features "won't require a subscription, won't contain microtransactions, and will be free for all existing players".

As for the other elements due to arrive as part of No Man's Sky's Beyond update, Hello Games says that it will be "sharing more in the coming weeks" and that it "will talk more about each of the three major components... when we know we can be precise".

And just like that, I'm interested in the game once again.

VR support's probably also coming to Vive/Rift.

EDIT: Yup.

[h=1]No Man’s Sky players have spent months mapping black holes[/h]

[h=2]The Black Hole Suns are building a black hole super highway in the game[/h]

In the real world, humanity has spent the last few days celebrating our first real look at a black hole. No Man’s Sky players who traverse galaxies in search of adventure are well beyond that point, though. They’ve been through black holes already — virtual ones, anyway. So they’ve moved on to the next logical question: Where do black holes send you, exactly?
In No Man’s Sky, black holes are a part of everyday play. When you come across one, you have to make a decision: Do you step inside of the black hole and try your luck, or do you continue on your way? Brave players who venture forth are treated to a delight of the senses;Hello Games’ interpretation of what traveling through a black hole must look like. And then you arrive on the other side, completely lost — there’s no way to tell where a black hole will send you — but a little thrilled.
For most players, that’s that. Hardcore fans, however, follow the game closely enough to have noticed that an update sometime last year to No Man’s Sky changed the inner workings of a black hole. Now, black holes will always spit you out in the same place, provided you’re using the same entry point. Naturally, players wondered if they could use this information to travel across the galaxy toward points of interest more efficiently, using black holes as a space highway.
“These could include civilizations, planets for building bases, or anywhere that the traveler would like to reach via normal methods (instead of using a Portal, which carries restrictions),” wrote No Man’s Sky player huskerbsg on Reddit. “As a result of collecting this data, we’ve come up with a method of reducing long journeys by ‘chaining’ together black hole entry and exit points in an effort to reach a destination with the minimum amount of warping.”
And so players — who started calling themselves the Black Hole Suns — started cataloging black holes en masse, first by the dozens, then by the hundreds. As of this writing, black hole cartographers have collected information on over three thousand black holes across the galaxy. All of these black holes have been visualized on a graphic which gives us a sense of what the No Man’s Sky universe actually looks like when you pull back the curtain. Each blue dot is a black hole:

Reddit via u/Read_Before_U_PostCuriously, the coordinates for these black holes are constant throughout platforms, but their exit points differ depending on the galaxy. Black hole explorers have used this information to build a No Man’s Sky travel guide, as well as a distance and route calculator, both of which help adventurers travel vast distances. Some players have even started using specialized ships built with the explicit purpose of mapping more black holes — which is important, because black hole travel damages vessels.
While crossing the three thousand mark is a huge accomplishment worth celebrating, some players are wary of what’s to come. No Man’s Sky is getting a big update this summer, which means the galaxy will change along with it. In the past, entire civilizations have been lost with new updates. There’s no telling how much things might change. The entire galaxy might reset. Black holes might start working differently, or they might change location altogether. But these possibilities aren’t stopping the Black Hole Suns from mapping what they can.
“KEEP GOING” huskerbsg urged his fellow travelers last month.
“It is our intent to study the new behavior, determine if the data can be collected and leveraged as it is today, and get back on the horse,” huskerbsg wrote. “We will put the word out to the gang of researchers so that we can repopulate the data if necessary.”
You can follow along with Black Hole Suns’ progress over on Reddit.

[h=1]No Man’s Sky’s Beyond update arrives Aug. 14[/h]
The update will add a new multiplayer experience and VR

No Man’s Sky’s massive, game-changing Beyond update finally has a release date: Aug. 14. The date’s announcement was made in a blog post on developer Hello Games’ website, along with a very short teaser trailer.
According to Hello Games, the Beyond update is three major updates rolled into one. The first update will be No Man’s Sky’s new and expanded online multiplayer and social features. It isn’t exactly clear yet what this new online experience will look like, or how it will change the game.
The game’s managing director Sean Murray has previously told Polygon, “It includes a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together. Whilst this brings people together like never before, and has many recognizable online elements, we don’t consider No Man’s Sky to be an MMO. It won’t require a subscription, won’t contain micro-transactions, and will be free for all existing players.”
The second major component of the Beyond update will be to add VR support to No Man’s Sky. The feature will be available in any part of the game, including multiplayer where players will be allowed to play in VR alongside their non-VR friends.
For now, these are the only parts of the Beyond update that Hello Games has revealed. But we’re sure to get more details in the coming weeks either before the patch or when the patch goes live on Aug. 14. Beyond will be a free update for all No Man’s Sky players.

They'd have to have released the game in 2014 to actually have sold that promise to consumers
Im just glad for the blind followers that the vision which was more enticing to them over Bloodborne, Xenoblade, Uncharted 4, Zelda U, Bayonetta 2, Arkham Knight, Kojima's MGSV, Destiny, Super Smash might be coming to fruition

[h=1]No Man's Sky For Nintendo Switch? Hello Games Is Interested In It[/h]

Developer Hello Games is interested in bringing their procedural action-adventure survival title No Man's Sky to the Nintendo Switch. The game had abit of a rocky launch back when it released on PC and as a timed console-exclusive on PS4 in 2016. Since then, Hello Games has released some meaningful updates to the game that have totally changed the consensus surrounding it. In their latest update, No Man's Sky Beyond, Hello Games has included increased multiplayer support for up to 16-32 players depending on the platform, PS VR support, and some other fan-requested features.
No Man's Sky presents players with an expansive open-world universe that's unlike anything on the market right now. Initially, the game launched and was missing many things that were present in the game's reveal trailer as well as trailers leading up to release. At the time, many players abandoned the title, but Hello Games persevered and added so much new content to the game that made it more akin to what players originally expected at launch. Better yet, all of these updates have come to the game free of charge.

In an article from
Game Informer, Hello Games founder Sean Murray commented on the potential of a Nintendo Switch port. While oftentimes games can appear to be too complex or visually intensive for the Switch hardware, ports like The Witcher 3, for example, prove that the Switch has more power than meets the eye. No Man's Sky is a very lax game despite its incredibly large scope, making it a great game for those that might want to play in bed or on a commute. Murray's comments don't confirm that a Nintendo Switch port is in the works but the team is definitely interested in looking into it.

"I love the Switch. We're obviously very focused on what we're doing right now, but we have done a lot of work for PSVR to optimize the game. So I'd be interested to see what's possible. But at the moment, we're just very focused on what we're doing right now."
Based on Murray's comments, it seems like the development team is focused on continuing to refine the title on all of its available platforms. Hello Games is a very small team, they're working on No Man's Sky as well as a new adventure title called The Last Campfire that was announced in 2018. With all of that in mind, it seems unlikely that the team would have the resources to put the meaningful focus required to create a great Nintendo Switch port. However, they could always just partner with another company to get the game going on Switch.

It would definitely be cool to see No Man's Sky make its way onto the Nintendo Switch. The Switch has proved to be a great place for indie developers to shine, No Man's Sky would undoubtedly be a welcomed addition to the console's third-party offerings. For now, fans will have to simply imagine what Hello Game's space epic could be like on Nintendo's handheld-console hybrid. At least players can experience it in VR though.
