Ultimately though, Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition is a success on consoles - and an important one, being the first major triple-A quality game engine to transition entirely to an RT-based foundation. The new game looks a lot better than the last-gen version, frame-rate is doubled, and even with some visible optimisations and cutbacks compared the PC version, the game still shines brightly thanks to the stunning global illumination technology. If you'd asked me two years ago if we would be seeing a console game running at 60fps and built on an ambitious real-time RT GI solution, I would have scarcely believed it possible - and yet here it is. 4A has delivered amazing work and I highly recommend checking it out, and we'll return as soon as we can with a look at the PlayStation 5 rendition of the game.

4A Games showing console developers how its done and setting the standard for RT on consoles (y)

RT at 60fps is the saving grace for this console version as its still missing key effects like Tessellation.

Series S has pretty significant drops to as low as 540p, but it's a $299 console doing full RT and double the frame rate of the last gen. Not bad.

Might reconsider picking this up if I can find it below $10 to check out the upgrades. My aeging laptop sure as shit ain't gonna cut it :D

Gamma settings are broken and it's much darker.
Lower resolution than Series X but much smoother in performance.
Loading times are slower in one section posted above while in another section it's a second orntwo faster, the game isn't using storage APIs for either console tho.

Load times on PS5 are indicative of a low effort port. Meanwhile, barely anything was done to address the controls-related issues found in the original. The new lighting model is an improvement over the half-assed approach to RTGI in the original version on PC, but, on the whole, the Enhanced edition is still very clearly a last gen game 🤷‍♂️

I guess cases like this is where the SX's stronger GPU comes into play. PS5 is, on average, running 80% of the resolution of the SX, while having less of those 1 frame stutters (I guess those may be streaming hitches ?)

The load times being faster on the SX despite this being a native app, not a BC upgrade, is unusual.

So apparently, the Rainbox Six Siege DLSS support is an updated version, v2.2. Some people are reporting the DLL can be replaced in other DLSS 2.1 supported games to get this updated version.

Pretty damn sweet if true. DLSS stays winning :D

TLDR:
Metro devs thought they might not be able to do full RT GI on the consoles, but turns out they could.
SSD is used as is in PS5 / X.
No VRS tier 2 was used. Tier 1 on Series consoles, and similar software based VRS on PS5.
No mesh shaders and sampler feedback streaming tech used.
