[h=1]Fallout 76’s $199 Power Armor edition wasn’t what buyers were promised (update)[/h]

[h=2]Bethesda has no plans to offer advertised item[/h]

Bethesda originally advertised a “canvas West Tek duffel bag” as one of the items that would come with the $199.99 Power Armor Edition of Fallout 76, but fans were surprised by the quality of the item that ended up shipping with the final product.
“Basically people who bought the collector’s edition were given a cheap nylon bag to house the Power Armor helmet that doesn’t match the product description or the image of a ‘West Tek canvas carrying bag,’” an individual wrote on Reddit. “In the product listing to this day, it still says it’s a canvas bag and it even looks completely different to what was delivered.”
This is how the package, including the bag, was originally advertised:

Bethesda SoftworksThis is an image of the nylon bag that was shipped:

ImgurHere’s another comparison shot from Twitter:

We checked our own bag from our Power Armor edition and yep, it’s nylon — and also pretty flimsy.

Michael McWhertor/PolygonThe official wording on Bethesda’s page has been adjusted to state that the bag is nylon, although the listing still includes the image that states the bag is canvas.

Players are also reporting that company response to this switcheroo has been less than friendly. “We are sorry that you aren’t happy with the bag,” Bethesda support reportedly told another fan. “The bag shown in the media was a prototype and was too expensive to make.”
We reached out to Bethesda for comment.
“We’re investigating the response from the Bethesda Gear Store Support team and we apologize to the customer who took the time to reach out,” Bethesda told Polygon in a statement. “The support response was incorrect and not in accordance with our conduct policy. Unfortunately, due to unavailability of materials, we had to switch to a nylon carrying case in the Fallout 76: Power Armor Edition. We hope this doesn’t prevent anyone from enjoying what we feel is one of our best collector’s editions.”
Update: Bethesda is now offering 500 Atoms, Fallout 76’s virtual currency, worth around $5, to players impacted by this switch.

[h=1]Fallout 76’s next patch swats bugs, buffs automatic weapons and increases the Stash[/h]

[h=2]Patch notes spell out what’s on deck for Dec. 4 update[/h]

Fallout 76’s next patch, out Dec. 4, will fix a ton of bugs that have plagued the game since its Nov. 14 launch, as well as deliver an enhanced Stash size and other quality-of-life adjustments, according to patch notes that developer Bethesda Game Studios published Friday.
The enhanced Stash (now 600, was 400) requested almost immediately by Fallout 76players, was announced on Monday when Bethesda Softworks acknowledged the game’s slipshod launch and poor reception. So was a fix for the loot dropped by boss-level characters; they will now drop between two and four items, of quality commensurate to the enemy’s difficulty and level.
Other highlights that players will be relieved to hear: Automatic weapon damage will receive a badly needed boost, by 20 percent (which still may not be enough, to be honest). A glitch where enemies health bars and call-outs persisted on screen when they were no longer in view will also be corrected. So will problems at the CAMP, where stored items weren’t showing up and turrets disappeared once damaged beyond a functioning state (both of which happened to me).
Fallout 76 is also getting an AFK notice, sort of, in that players will be disconnected from the server after 10 minutes of inactivity, with a one-minute timer warning issued beforehand. Players who die while over-encumbered will also be able to respawn at their nearest discovered location instead of just back at Vault 76.
And, of course, “the Fallout 76 game client and servers have received additional stability improvements.”
Version 1.0.2.0 for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One will roll out Dec. 4, with another, meatier patch to follow on Dec. 11. That one will include additional settings for PC, a respeccing option for players’ SPECIALs once they go above level 50, and other CAMP improvements.
Fallout 76 opened to nonplussed reactions during a two-week beta in late October and early November, and the launch dragged poor review scores and disappointed players into the mix. We’ve been as frustrated as any fan with Fallout 76, seeing plenty of potential for Fallout’s first multiplayer entry but unable to ignore its many shortcomings.

[h=1]Fallout 76 players permabanned for anti-gay harassment[/h]

[h=2]Victim says the game really needs a reporting feature[/h]

Multiple Fallout 76gamers have received lifetime bans from the game, following a harassment incident littered with homophobic slurs that went viral over social media.
As reported by Eurogamer, Bethesda Softworks originally handed out a three-day suspension to at least one player, shown in the Twitter video, a day after Fallout 76’s Nov. 14 launch. As the ringleader of a group of harassers, he peppered the target with things like, “We have come to eliminate all gays,” and anti-gay epithets. Later on in the game, the group tracked down the three players, ambushed and killed them — even though in Fallout 76’s PvP, another player’s attacks only do minor damage if fire is not returned.
One of the players attacked posted these two videos on the night of Nov. 15, calling Bethesda Softworks’ attention to them. Warning: Offensive language in the audio.

The person identified as the primary instigator told Eurogamer that he was a high school senior, and that Bethesda initially gave him only a three-day ban. (He also uploaded video capture from his perspective to his YouTube, entitled “Cleansing of the queers.”) He expressed no remorse for his behavior but insisted, “I don’t hate gay people.”
“It was just a late night of having fun and after the first encounter (seen on my channel) we felt it would be fun to offend them somehow,” he said. “You can call that evil, but I think it’s just playful immaturity.”
But then, to Eurogamer, Bethesda said that it followed up that “initial ban” with a permanent ban for the entire group of harassers identified in the video. A Bethesda spokesperson added that the company “will not tolerate this kind of behavior by any of our players, nor toward any of our players.”
A ban from multiplayer is effectively a ban from all of Fallout 76, although theoretically someone could create a new Bethesda.net account (they are free) and use that to play the game. They lose all progress and anything associated with the old account, however.
That said, the harassment victim pointed out that Fallout 76 has no capability for reporting another player to moderators from within the game. And doing so through Bethesda.net was described as a cumbersome and even broken process.
A Bethesda representative reminded that players can block other players in Fallout 76 (even permanently), but this mostly means you won’t show up on the map of those you block. They can still engage you normally if they happen to run into you in-world. The player who made the report reasoned that simply blocking a harrasser isn’t enough; the antagonizers deserve a sanction to keep them from doing it to other players.

[h=1]Bethesda Gives Legit Fallout 76 Bag to Influencers, Rips Off Paying Customers[/h]

The furore over Fallout 76 has become worse for Bethesda, as it's revealed that the publisher made special edition canvas bags to go out to influencers, but not the ones meant to go to paying customers. The bags, which are meant to hold the T-51b Power Armor helmet found in the Power Armor edition of Fallout 76, are made of a cheap nylon instead of an expected canvas, which was a huge disappointment for those who forked out the money for this premium edition of the multiplayer Fallout game.
This controversy is just one part of a larger problem for Bethesda over Fallout 76. The game has had a seriously negative reception since launch from both critics and fans, while the publisher has faced backlash not just over the poor quality of the title itself, but also over communication surrounding fixes. This is an area that the publisher has had to apologise for, with the issues stacking up overall.

The latest problem regarding Fallout 76's canvas bags is perhaps the worst of the lot, however. As shown by the excellent image above from TellTaleTimeLord on Reddit, fans are not happy about the lack of canvas bags in the first place. Now that it's been confirmed that Bethesda took the care to give canvas bags out to influencers, it's another matter entirely.

YouTuber HeelvsBabyFace noticed that a number of unboxing videos from online influencers included a Fallout 76 canvas duffle bag. This bag was included in the goods that were given out to content creators in a Fallout 76 event back in October. Although the bag itself is a different design to those meant to be included in the Power Armor edition of the game, it's no doubt bound to frustrate those who didn't get what they wanted from the pre-order.

It gets even worse when compared to Bethesda's reasons for the canvas bag not being included. A representative stated that "the bag shown in the media was a prototype and was too expensive to make," but clearly some kind of canvas bag was easy enough to make as a promotional tool for the game - just not worth making for paying customers. Understandably, fans are unimpressed.
The overall issue of quality in Fallout 76 is one that rumbles on for Bethesda, from serious matters such as a class action lawsuit through to the more light-heartedmodding of the canvas bag into Fallout 4. Either way, however, it shows just how poorly Bethesda planned through the launch of Fallout 76, and how little care it took when it came to devoted fans.

[h=1]Fallout 76 players will get free Fallout games on PC[/h]

[h=2]Bethesda will hand out three classic Fallout games in January[/h]

Fallout 76 players will get some free Fallout next year for their troubles. Bethesda Softworkssaid on Twitter yesterday that it’s giving players, both on console and PC, the Fallout Classic Collection for free if they’ve played Fallout 76 at any point this year.
The Fallout Classic Collection includes the original Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics. The games are available on PC, but not on console, though they should run on just about any Windows PC built in the past two decades.

The Fallout Classic Collection typically sells for $19.99 on Steam. It’s currently on sale for $5.99 on Valve’s store as part of the ongoing Steam Winter Sale. Bethesda is also including the Fallout Classic Collection with purchases of Fallout 76 through its Bethesda.net digital store. The online role-playing game is currently on sale for $39.99.
Fallout 76 launched in November to mixed response. Some of us disliked it considerably, while other Polygon writers had fun with the game, warts and all.

[h=1]Fallout 76 player gets inside, shares pictures from, mysterious sealed Vault 63[/h]

[h=2]‘I very nicely asked them not to ban me.’[/h]

A Fallut 76 player accidentally clipped into and was stuck inside the supposedly inaccessible Vault 63 — a sealed area players believe may be the scene of some upcoming story extension or DLC. After radioing for help from Bethesda Game Studios itself, they managed to get free on their own, but still have the lingering worry of a ban or another sanction.
Redditor McStaken said they got stuck there doing a Rad-Rat horde event. While inside, they snapped and shared these nine pictures (via imgur) of Vault 63’s interior.

Vault 63 is located in
Fallout 76’s Ash Heap region in the southwest of the map. The entrance is inside a small cave that is accessed through the door of a shack outside. A terminal by the sealed Vault 63 door has a keycard slot that accepts a “Vault 63 access ID card,” implying that there’s some way to get inside — which McStaken has now confirmed.

According to Nukapedia, Vault 63 is one of three vaults part of a team quest that was evidently cut from the game prior to launch. The only other detail about Vault 63 known before McStaken got inside is that its number appears to reference West Virginia’s statehood date (1863).
We’ve reached out to Bethesda Softworks representatives to ask for more information about Vault 63 — and also to verify that McStaken isn’t in any kind of trouble for ending up inside it.
Players who got inside a semi-secret, developer-only room containing every item in the game (and Wooby) faced an inquiry and potential sanction for doing it. If their activity turned up evidence that they’d been inside the Wooby room, their accounts were automatically suspended and they got a note from the principal’s office asking them to explain themselves.
McStaken says they submitted a support ticket to Bethesda and “very nicely asked them not to ban me.” A further update said they hadn’t been banned and “nor has Bethesda been breathing down my neck.”

Update: A Bethesda Softworks representative told Polygon that, “They shouldn’t have to worry about a ban. Sounds like they weren’t abusing an exploit, and letting us know is a good thing we definitely appreciate.”
Additionally, a Bethesda community manager replied on Twitter:
Glad to hear you got in and out of the Vault in one piece. These Vaults are still under construction, but we look forward to sharing more on how they will become part of the game. In the meantime, we also appreciate when players like yourself let us know about stuff like this. We have shared with the team and will let you know if we have any follow up questions. Thank you!

[h=1]Fallout 76 finally gets whiskey stills on March 12[/h]

[h=2]Brew up a mess of trouble with Wild Appalachia[/h]

Fallout 76’s newest workbench sounds like something out of Tapper, and not the root beer edition. Bethesda Game Studios detailed what they have in mind with the Brewing Station, which is on tap (do ho) for Tuesday, March 12 in this month’s Wild Appalachia series of updates.
Players will get the Brewing Station during an onboard quest called “Wasted on Nukashine,” and with it, players will be able to brew beer, make wine and distill spirits that’ll getcha bombed quicker’n fishing with dynamite. Of course, this being Fallout, there will be a variety of effects that come from your potent potables.
Wine and likker will have a “fresh effect” and a “vintage effect.” Roughly speaking, the fresh effect hurts both you and someone else, but letting the sucker age a little will hurt only someone else. For example, Firecracker Whiskey’s fresh effect will land fire damage on both you and your target with your melee attacks. But vintage, only the other guy gets hurt.
The “Hoppy Hunter” beer will increase scope stability and damage to animals, but will reduce VATS accuracy. Then there’s the “Tick Blood Tequila Sunrise,” and I have no idea why anyone would drink it. A) You might get a disease but B) if you don’t you may refill your hunger meter. C) You are still drinking tick blood.
All of this stuff will be mission-gived by Biv, a barkeep robot nearby Vault-Tec University. Biv (no relation to Bel or Devoe) doles out the introductory mission, and then later offers two daily quests. One of them teaches a new brewing/distilling recipe and the other sounds like some kind of drinking contest where you nip on some corn squeezins and get into trouble with Snuffy and Lukey.
I am surely hoping that there is also a Assaultron Revenue Agent waiting somewhere up in the holler, with a satchel full of dynamite for blowing your still to kingdom come. Also, that adding a possum corpse to the mash speeds up the fermentation, just like real life.
More on Wild Appalachia and the rest of Fallout 76’s roadmap is here.

[h=1]Starting today, you can sign up for Fallout 76: Wastelanders’ beta[/h]

Prepare your inbox for a lot of emails from Bethesda

Bethesda

Fallout 76’s new Wastelanders update is nearly here — or the beta is at least. On Bethesda’s website, players can now create a Bethesda account and register for the Wastelanders Private Test Server. Players have until Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. ET to apply.
To sign up for the Wastelanders beta, you need to create a Bethesda account. Then you need to hit the register button on the registration site. Note the company requires you to sign up for marketing emails before you can register properly.
Once your preferences are correct, you’ll get a notification that you’re signed up. This doesn’t mean you’re in. You’ll need to watch your email’s inbox for an official invite — which isn’t guaranteed. Bethesda is currently only looking for a few hundred people. If you get selected, you’ll also need to sign a non-disclosure agreement, and won’t be able to stream or talk about the game publicly.

The Wastelanders expansion helps turn Fallout 76 into a more traditional Fallout experience. The update adds human NPC characters that can offer new missions for you to go on, and offer rewards. And if you just feel like chatting, NPCs can do that as well with new dialogue trees.
This new Private Test Server update comes a few months after Bethesda delayed the expansion into the first quarter of 2020. Wastelanders is free for all 76 players, and seems designed for those who felt burned after purchasing 76 in late 2018. The expansion was originally announced at E3 2019.
We currently have no release date for when the full version of Wastelanders will be released to all players.
