Fallout 76 won't launch on Steam

The Fallout 76 beta FAQ states, among other things, that "the B.E.T.A. [that's a Fallout-style acronym for Break it Early Test Application] and the game will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and on PC (via Bethesda.net only)." The Fallout 76 purchase page also bears only a generic "PC game" logo, with no mention of Steam. And today, Bethesda confirmed that neither the beta nor the full game will be released on the platform.

Every major publisher is moving away from steam supposedly because of the hefty 30% cut valve takes from them. Now Bethesda has Bethesda.net, epic games have their own epic launcher, Ubisoft now have Uplay, EA have origin. Then there's the windows store, GOG, Rockstar social club and of course blizzards battle.net. Also lesser known ones like arc clients and some others I m forgetting. So many launchers it's getting frustrating.

Let's see, Fallout is a well-known franchise. The shift to Origin wasn't a deal breaker for Battlefield.
true but u have to admit it will lose sales for sure.

[h=1]Fallout 76 won’t launch on Steam so Bethesda can ‘directly serve’ its players[/h]

[h=2]Bethesda said it’s ‘key to us being able to do the best game possible’[/h]

Fallout 76 will do something rare for a PC game: It’s skipping Steam — at least at launch — and will only be available from publisher Bethesda Softworks’ own launcher. According to Bethesda’s senior vice president of marketing and communications, Pete Hines, that’s so the publisher can bypass the middleman and work more directly with players.
“In this particular case, it’s an online game and we felt like when it comes to the PC that being able to directly serve our customers,” Hines said, “and having that one-to-one relationship was hugely important and key to us being able to do the best game possible.”
Bethesda did something similar when it launched Fallout Shelter on PC. The game was only available through the Bethesda.net launcher initially, and it took about eight months for Bethesda to bring the game over to Steam.

“We have learned a lot doing other games — this is Bethesda Game Studios’ first online game, it is not Bethesda’s first online game,” Hines explained. “We have been down this road before. We did [The Elder Scrolls Online], and we did ESO only on [Bethesda.net], and there are puts and takes for anything that you decide to do, but what we know for sure is if the customer comes directly to us that we have a much better ability to work directly with them on whatever comes up — as opposed to, you know, through Steam, it’s inherent: You have another party involved. You have an issue with something, like we’re having to work with somebody else to figure out your problem, as opposed to: You have a problem? It’s on us to solve, it’s on us to fix. ... There’s nobody else we have to talk to. I don’t have to go to somebody else and say, ‘Well, you have to go contact them about x, y or z.’ We have found that that is really important particularly with an online game.”
Hines didn’t offer a timeframe for when Fallout 76 might come to Steam or even if eventually will. Fallout 76’s beta test will launch in October, and the game will come to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One in November.

[h=1]Fallout 76 isn’t coming to Nintendo Switch[/h]

[h=2]The multiplayer Fallout won’t be portable anytime soon[/h]

Bethesda has been a champion of the Nintendo Switch during the system’s early life, porting games like Skyrim, Doom and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossusto Nintendo’s hybrid console and portable. These are the sorts of M-rated action and role-playing games that Nintendo isn’t supplying for its own system, giving Bethesda a competitive advantage on a system that might be scaring off other third-party publishers.
“I enjoy us being seen as the third-party leader in terms of supporting Switch,” Bethesda’s Pete Hines said during PAX Australia, as reported by GameSpot. “People go, ‘Hey, you’ve got a lot more stuff [on Switch] than this publisher or that publisher.’ That’s what I want Bethesda to be known as. We’re guys who will take some risks.”
But Bethesda’s latest game, Fallout 76, won’t be coming to Nintendo Switch.
The company discusses each new release to see if it’s something that could work on the Switch, and Fallout 76 didn’t make the cut for what sounds like technical reasons.
“If the game will work on it, we want it to be on every platform possible,” Hines stated. “Fallout 76 is not because it just wasn’t doable. But honestly, there is no game in development that we haven’t had a conversation about [bringing it to Switch].”
Fallout 76 is currently in beta — you can pre-order if you’d like to take part — with a full release coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One on Nov. 14.

[h=1]Fallout 76’s Atomic Shop opens. What does it sell?[/h]

[h=2]‘Atom’ currency only buys cosmetic items, Bethesda promises[/h]

Fallout 76’s Atomic Shop opened in last night’s beta test. This is the marketplace where users can redeem Atoms, a virtual currency that will one day be available for real money, for in-game items. The stuff on hand gives a good idea of what Bethesda Softworks intends to do with the shop and how it will affect the game.
Mostly, it appears to have cosmetic items. To recap, those who’ve played the Fallout 76 beta may have noticed they were awarded 10 “Atoms” for arbitrary acts — crafting a weapon or contracting a disease. Atoms aren’t spendable in the game itself. The option to acquire additional Atoms is grayed out at present.
In the CAMP tab of the Atomic Shop, a “clean small generator” and a “clean purifier” are available for 300 atoms — but this seems to describe their appearance rather than what they produce. So instead of a diesel-belching generator, the CAMP has something more sightly. Similarly, a “Nuka Cola Stash” means that’s the design on the box, not what’s inside.

Bethesda Game Studios/Bethesda Softworks

Emotes can have a gameplay purpose, sort of, in that “Dying of Thirst!” or “So Hungry” could signal to strangers you’re willing to barter for that. But all of the necessary gestures are already in the emote wheel.

Bethesda Game Studios/Bethesda SoftworksThe game’s photo mode is likewise a place for folks to get additional poses when touting their latest scorchbeast kill or whatever. At present, the Vault-Boy thumbs-up is the only one players have. Picture frames are also available to dress things up.

My question will be how this is compatible with mods; mod support is promised, but no one has any idea when it will be offered. Granted, mods mimicking Atomic Shop items probably won’t be usable in the main game with other people, but if I’m playing solo on a private server later (a preference many have expressed), it may obviate any need for Atom-purchased hats, jumpsuits and the like.
Fallout 76 launches Nov. 14 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. The beta continues Thursday, Nov. 1, from 2-11 p.m. ET on all platforms, and again Saturday from 5-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-9 p.m.

Based on what I have seen and read so far, I am not going to buy this when it comes out.
Will first make sure by checking the actual reviews of the final released product and will wait for them to release it on Steam. Otherwise PASS! (sm1)

What is peoples obsession with Battle Royale genre. 6 minutes to find a match, 3 minutes to setup a match, 2 minutes to land, 10 minutes for scavanging maybe 2 3 gunfigts and its over. Multiplayer landscape is looking absolute dogshit.
I tried playing Apex Legends once. Couldn't find a gun for 5 minutes straight. If I found a gun, I couldn't find the right ammo for it. Got killed fighting with my fists. Uninstalled it the next day.

After I watched it, I never felt like i watched a show. It was a friggin journey. I got way too attached to Thorfinn and seeing him grow up and find himself and get rid of all the negativity inside of him was just pure bliss.
