Kojima's first post-Konami project is a bizarre, self-indulgent mess that never quite manages to tie its myriad pieces together.


Here's a gif we found on the internet that pretty well encapsulates what the early goings of Death Stranding are like.
At least now we know what the hell Death Stranding is: a disappointment.

The world looks like such a surreal landscape. At least most reviews seem to agree the lonesome/traversal is a good part of the game.

Norman Reedus is happy PT got canned because of the bigger role he got in Death Stranding lol



While he disappointed at first that Konami canceled the title, when Hideo Kojima described Death Stranding to him, he “completely forgot” about the game.

“I was like, thank god that didn’t work because this is way better,” said Reedus. “This is a completely different thing. I’ve really gotten to know the mind of Hideo a little bit. I like the fact that Silent Hills didn’t happen, to be honest, because I’ve gotten such a peek into the way he works and the way he thinks, and I’m completely blown away by this guy.”

Yeah but all pre-orders will be honored on Steam regardless and will be refunded as well if need be, so EGS doing its thing doesn't really matter now :p

Meri jaan, they call it 4K because the game is in-fact rendering a full 2160p worth of pixels. The only catch is that some of those are generated by the checker board algorithm. It's not the same as taking a 900p video and up-scaling it to 1080p. That will still produce a 900p image just blown up to 1080p. CB Rendering isn't as clear as native 4K, but it is still rendering the full 3840x2160p pixel grid.

The bolded part is not entirely true because you are using the word rendering wrong. By your logic, even CB should be considered "native", it is as you say, "rendering full 2160p pixels", but there is a reason it isn't. The actual rendering resolution can be calculated and is always much lower. Changing the upscaling algorithm, doesn't change the fact that it is still an upscaling algorithm, that too with negative qualities of its own (dithering and ghosting artefacts). The main purpose of CB is also to "blow up the image" from the actual, lower rendering resolution, to the desired resolution.

We are both in-fact not entirely accurate, my wording was just to boil it down to as simple terms as possible. CB rendering is *not* simple upscaling, hence it's not just 'blowing up' an image.

PS4 Pro actually has a specific hardware based ID buffer to help with CB rendering. Maybe the One X does, but I couldn't find a reference for it.

Of course it will not look 1 : 1 with native 4K in most cases, but then the PS4 Pro isn't exactly that strong of a console by today's standards.
